Our abysmal WR corps need a major upgrade. For all the draftniks out there, what WRs in the draft actually know how to get separation and catch the ball consistently? At this rate, I'll go bald pretty soon watching our non-receivers.
Limas Sweed, Malcolm Kelly, DeSean Jackson, plenty of them...but none are Calvin Johnson types. Limas Sweed is supposed to be real good with a good size too.
I would love a Calvin Johnson-type, but of course talent like that is rare. I'm desperate at this point. I don't even care if they don't have blazing speed...can we get some people in here who know how to catch??? Please? It's mind-boggling to me. These guys have been playing football all their lives, and they can't catch the frickin football.
Ginn has been consistant catching the ball. I don't think its our recievers that are the problem, we need someone to get the ball to them consistantly.
Right. Besides Ginn. He's been a real pleasant surprise. I watched every Dolphins game (as I'm sure most of us here have) and I've only counted 2 drops by him the entire season.
James Hardy is his name . . . .and he is 6'7 220lb's I saw him against Penn State . . . the kid had like 14 catches for 150 yards and 2 TD's. Imagine this beast opposite of Teddy Ginn's speed . . . my goodness. He is draft eligible . . . tho just a RS Junior . . . its looking like he will enter the draft, and currently is being mocked in the 2nd round, some have him late in the first round. Decent speed for his size, great hands . . . the knock i keep seeing is potential for early problems getting seperation . . . but at 6'7, just throw the ball up lol . . . I definitely will be keeping my eye on this kid during the combines and workouts . . . of course if he does too good, he will be out of our reach with the 32 pick . . . but this is the WR I will be watching.
6'7???? And we thought we had a red zone threat with Oronde Gadsden. What an advantage that would be. As long as he's not clumsy like Booker and knows how to catch. You're right about the separation. The tallest CBs in this league are, what, 6'2?
yea lol I couldn't remember what his name was, nobody answered back . . .so i searched and answered my own question lol.
Yea I mean, I need to see more . . . . but he looks good on paper . . . and from the Penn State game I saw . . . he was the BEST player on the field. He still is Raw, and we know how these WR's can take some time . . . . so I'm guessing it may take a year or 2 before we really see him develop . . . This year, there really isn't anybody that sticks out as an elite #1 WR receiver . . . Sweed possibly, but he has been hurt . . . Kelly, Douglas, Bowman, Doucet, Jackson . . . all of them can be good WR's . . . but no BEAST's . . . like CJ was.
No way Parcells drafts a receiver in the first two rounds. Expect us to grab someone off of free agency. At least we'll make some offers. If we fail I would think Californai's Lavelle Hawkins, Houston's Donnie Avery, Kansas State's Jordy Nelson, Coastal Carolina's Jerome Simpson and New Mexico's Marcus Smith are more likely to be drafted by us than a big name receiver like Hardy or Desean Jackson
Based on Parcells history and his character comments in his press conference, you have to wonder if some of Hardy's off the field issues (battery charges from hitting his 1 year old son and the son's mother, Dad serving 10 years in prison for drug dealing) will keep him off the Dolphins draft board. Personally, I think Malcom Kelly can develop into a solid #1 WR in a few years and I'm hoping he falls to the 2nd round (unlikely unless he times really slow).
I'd agree with that, unless someone with mid first round talent falls to us in the 2nd. We certainly have more pressing needs than WR to look at on the first day of the draft. Plus, like you said, free agency might be the best place for us to find a WR with guys like Berrian, Johnson and Hackett potentially available.
Yea, u are right . . . I mean I have heard a few things about Hardy's off the field probs . . . I guess considering Bill is here now, it will definitely weigh more heavily (speaking of character/off the field issues). Guess we will see. I like Kelly, was thinking he wouldn't be in the reach of our 2nd round pick . . . unless he does time slow (Jarrett) . . . but anything is possible. I'm hearing nice things about the Bowman kid also.
Watch the Sugar Bowl and keep an eye on #84 Jason Rivers from Hawaii. He leads the team in TD's and yards and hes got the size to play slot i the NFL. Probably not going to be ranked very high so we could get him cheap 6th rd or so.
Yeah I am really hoping we get one of those free agents. I think the 2nd round will be used for the front seven and possibly OL. I think after that any position can be addressed
I would not grab a WR with our 1st or two 2nd round picks....I think we can get a solid guy in the 3rd round, or a TE.
I have been hearing about Hawaii's WR's (plural) . . . some have said they think they have the best WR rotation, top to bottom in the country . . . and we love Hawaiin's here in Miami lol. Rivers and Hercules for 2008!!
How could I forget about Colt . . . he actually WANTS to come here also. Man next year we throw Hercules, Satele and Esera on the starting OLine . . . Mauia at FB with Brennan and Rivers . . . . Spread offense lol.
Sounds like good reasoning, but that wasn't the case: Derek Hagan's Stats http://www.nfl.com/players/derekhagan/profile?id=HAG040714 Tedd Ginn, Jr's Stats http://www.celtkin.com/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=29787 Same amount of catches, similar yardage. Hagan can't catch a <insert cliche word here>.
Mario Urratia from Louisville is coming out this season, he is 6'6 220 has good hands but had an injury marred season and has had some academic problems which will likely cause him to drop. Would be a steal in the later rounds.
Bowman as someone stated earlier is a freak of nature. He is 6'4 220 with good hands. He has had five 100+ receving yard games this year and last year he had one with 300 yards, 13 catches and 4 td's vs a good kansas team. i believe Aqib Talib was the corner guarding him that game.
Devon Bess is going to be a first rounder next year, he may fall to the second because of his size but no lower than that. I haven't watched enough College football to say HI 3 wr are the best, but they'll be hard to beat. Two of them, Bess and Rivers have over 1000 yds and 10 TDs and Grice-Mullen is close to it. I'd REALLY like to see us get Hercules for LG, maybe 3rd round, but I think Samson gets him noticed and he may go higher than that. Maybe our San Diego pick, that would be a good trade Chambers for Satele. As happy as getting Colt Brennan would make me, I don't see it happening Roman, but I'll be hoping. We just need to get way better in too many places to pick a QB that high again this year, I still like Beck.
Another guy whos not mentioned here so far is Mario Manningham. I like him alot too and I think he'll come out this year.
Miami needs 2 WR's: a quick, sure handed slot receiver along with a big receiver who can still get down the field. I'm not ready to depend on Greg Camarillo, and Derek Hagan is too inconsistent for me. I also like Ted Ginn more as a #2 WR than a #1, but only time will tell on whether or not he can actually develop into a #1 -- he certainly has the talent.
I wish the Fins would pick up Jeremy Bloom. He's sitting out there and he could be another Wes Welker imo.
A guy like Bowman out of Okla. St. is just what we need. A big tall Moss/TO/CJ/Braylon-type of WR who can make those catches on top of a defender yet still have the footspeed to go long. Speed doesn't matter if the other team is fielding either quick CB's or smart safeties or both. Limas Sweed, Malcolm Kelly, and Hardy are close seconds but Bowman looks like he has "it". Just wish he'd do poorly in the Combine or stay injured for a while so we can nab him with our 1st 2nd rounder (which technically acts as a low 1st rounder since the Cheatriots forfeit theirs).
