I would think too short of notice for them to change it to Thursday night. I'm guessing cancellation and reschedule on bye week.
Just heard on the Ticket that Smokin Jay wants the game played in Glendale Arizona because they play in LA the week after.
Play in Tampa if necessary, but giving up the bye will kill chances for a playoff run late in the season.
Again, I heard on the radio that the NFL doesn't want to have a game on Thursday because it'll take attention away from the season opener. Who remembers when the Phins had to move to a Monday night because the Baseball team had a Saturday night World Series game.
So no home game this week even if played early. Was looking forward to a Thursday night Dolphins game.
They should at least move the Neutral Site game to Monday because they have to travel on a scheduled home date. It's Tuesday and they still don't know where.
If they make both these teams play 16 straight games, that's killing both of their chances before the season even starts in my opinion.
+1 Keith! I am really looking forward to Dolphins football and not wasting the bye early. However, this hurricane is on a whole other plane of importance. I would not want families suffering unnecessarily as you said. The only way I want to see the game is early or in another location. If they did either, I would want to know the league was intervening and paying for crews to come in and secure the homes with shutters and whatever else needs to be done and have all family members and pets moved out before the storm. In other words, full service for the guys working since they work for such a profitable business. I really think it would be a huge undertaking so they will probably just move it to the bye week.
It has been pretty clear that the game wasn't going to be played here in Miami on Sunday. So surely the league should have sorted things out by now? I mean, how hard is it to get a neutral venue? I appreciate we don't want to lose a home game, and if it's coming down to us wanting to have that home game to make more money then fair enough, but the priority should be finding an alternative location to play the game and there are other stadiums in Florida that could host the game on Sunday. There's probably other stadiums out of state that could host the game. So quite why they are thinking of moving it to the bye week is sheer stupidity - though more likely greed at wanting to make money from a home game here.
I would suggest playing an additional Thursday night game the week before our bye and keeping the bye week. Since neither team plays that Sunday it would still give us a 10 day break.
This might sound crazy but you might a home crowd, move the game to MetLife, I guarantee you it would get at least 35k Fin fans and on short notice.
When we had the fires in San Diego they moved the game to Arizona. So there is precedence for doing that. How about they play in the old Chargers stadium. It's a piece of crap but they then could just stay on the left coast.
Jacksonville would be pretty good, plenty of Phin fans, stadium should be ready right? Losing bye is the worst option.
Tooooo close, any area that bears a chance of getting hit by this storm even if it's been downgraded to a tropical depression is probably going to be ruled out. I would think.
For example if we wanted to play in NOLA since Saints are on the road how far in of the storm's track would we need to be in to know it won't shift for the Gulf as we're heading there ourselves?
The NFL is gonna have to forget the gate and ratings, because its not going to happen even if it were moved to Tuesday night.
Imagine if it were the Patriots threatened by some huge storm. No way would the league force them to play 16 straight.
