Dude....the man has zero games as a NFL coordinator to judge him by, lol. I get that you may dislike Burke's personality from interviews. Thats all fair. I hated Philbin before he was even a candidate for our HC job and was strongly opposed to his hiring from the start. Judge him that way as much as you feel necessary.

However, on the field, you just cannot judge how he's calling a game based on what you've seen so far. If your critique is on how the Fins defense has or hasn't stopped the opposition, you're barking up the wrong tree by worrying about it before the games actually start, and beyond that, any first year coordinator, especially one taking over a unit that has put up some of the worst numbers in franchise history over the last few seasons, should be given a little leeway.

Obviously, he's not going anywhere. We are stuck with him...

What makes you think that though? When we haven't shown anything but basic playcalls on defense, no real game planning, and depth guys playing a crap ton of snaps for evaluation purposes. I just don't understand where you're coming from here.

As for being "right" in December, it's not about that. Of course, the chances of you being "right" come December are fairly high I'd assume. Not because you're seeing something now that nobody else is, but because the chance that coaches fail, and sometimes relatively quickly in this league is much higher than it is that they stay long term and have success. It's just the nature of the business.

To me, the point is not about being right or not, it's about understanding that we have nowhere near enough information to go on to make an evaluation. So I'm not disagreeing with you because I think you're wrong and Burke is a good DC. I'm simply disagreeing with you because theres no way you can make that call now. Claiming to be "right" in December if he fails isn't some stroke of genius by you, it's a shot in the dark that panned out, because no matter what, you just can't make that call right now based on 3 pre-season games. It's going to be luck more than intelligence and knowledge. So, lets stop with the we'll see who's right and who's wrong stuff. It's not about that.

Interesting...since most of the responses have told me Im wrong. I admit that i might be. But i doubt it. There is rarely empirical evidence of a coaches ability...its usually more open to debate. I dont want to be right, trust me.

The majority of coaches in the NFL don't pan out so claiming you've "seen enough" is no big deal. However, people who withhold judgement until the real facts come out are the ones you want to listen to and usually know what's going on.

I actually hated the Burke hire only because he came from Cincinnati, It brings back horrible memories of Kevin Coyle.

Usually yes--not always. If you think Burke is the real deal, thats fine. I dont. We are going to get the opportunity to see if hes worthy of his job. IMHO, wirh nothing more to go on other than what ive seen in preseason (effort and execution, and an indicting statement from Lawrence Timmons) Burke is in wayyy over his hesd. If i was making the decision, I'd demote him and replace him with Vitt. Thats obviously not going to happen, so i just posted my irrelevant opinion on a message board. We'll see in Dec/Jan if i knew what was goung on, or if the ones who withheld judgment have greater insight.

Jesus Macrimba man. It's freaking preseason of his first year as DC. Fricking people need to chill the hell out. We're ride or die at this point with the exception of the 1,333 free agents that will be available (43 players on 32 other teams getting cut on Sat).
