they do, but the point is that the franchise tag still counts against our cap. Hard to justify 3 big contracts for WR's

Miami has finally built something. I'm not sure if tearing it down for WRs that are unproven is the right thing to do

The most sound thing to do I think is to wait for the season to play out. We'll have a better idea of how Parker will develop and how that affects Landry's production. If Parker does not live up to the hype you work out a deal with Landry or franchise him... if Parker explodes you analyze Landry's play and what he is worth to us, if he prices himself out of our range you just let him go and get a 3rd round compensatory pick.

IF Miami keeps Landry, I think this is a big indication that Tannehill is part of the team's plans moving forward.

Tannehill and Landry have a really good relationship, and Tannehill is a really good distributor of the ball. I don't get the sense that Cutler is really that way.

He even indicated this when asked about Parker: "Open, not open, double covered", he's throwing the ball. THAT is not a good thing.

We do not have offensive linemen who can open holes for the backs. A guy like Landry with his dink and dunk receptions is a substitute for a running game.

When we have third and short, and it's a matter of out-physicaling the defense, we can't run for it. That's where Landry comes in. Makes no sense to let that capability go until we fix the offensive line.

And to add to that, I think Landry is one of the better players to generate first downs (I could be wrong on that, though).

and to add to that, he is the most reliable and durable. I don't trust Parker, I love Parker, but don't trust him yet

Would hate to see Landry in another uniform, but if the price is right I would pull the trigger.

You know, the 49ers never traded Jerry Rice when he was in his prime...the Cowboys never traded Michael Irvin and the Dolphins never traded Duper & Clayton in their primes. I'm sure there are other examples of teams that never traded their star receiver in his prime....and I'm sure we could find example of teams that have traded star receivers in their prime...

I'd just hate think, with the receiving corps we have right now that we would let any of these guys go...and I would like to think that in a perfect world, these players are not JUST football players, but brothers in arms and all of them would WANT to stay together.

Sadly though, reality kicks in and they care more about money than they do their team.

I don't necessarily agree with that sentiment. Sometimes you have to put the ball up and give your BIG receiver a chance at making a play. That's one thing I have noticed about Cutler in his short time with us...he's not afraid to send the ball downfield...something Tannehill has demonstrated a lack of willingness to do regularly.

I would be livid if this happened. For any of you guys who want a draft pick for Landry, think about our last 1st and 2nd round picks in recent years:

Harris, McMillan, Tunsil, Howard, Parker, Phillips

If those guys were on different teams, would you trade Landry for any one of those guys? I wouldn't even consider it

I think trading for a pick would damage the team for the upcoming season as well. The only trade that would even make sense would be if Cleveland offered Joe Haden + a pick. That offer might be a little rich for Cleveland, and we would have to eat his salary which we might not be able to do.

All of this reminds me of we traded Adewale Ogunleye for Marty Booker + a 3rd. Ogunleye was solid for the Bears for years while Booker's best year netted us 55 catches.

I wouldn't say we would be tearing it down. It doesn't look like FO is making it a priority to resign him so it would be smart to see what we can get on the open market. He's just not going to get the volume of passes he did pre gase. This offense is built around the run game and opening up shots downfield. I don't believe we should or we will pay him the top dollar he's seeking, so these trade rumors make sense.

Thing is you're not asking the right question.

The question is: how confident are we that the guys you listed turn out to be better/more impactful than Landry a couple years from now? I think Phillips is the only one we are pretty much sure won't be, everyone else can be but we can't know for sure.

Then you have to analyze what would be better for the team going forward: Landry + less cap space or a promising young player at a position of need + more cap space?

It's not an easy decision, IMO.

For me it's easy: Landry + less cap space.

First, there's too much uncertainty in how that draft pick will turn out. Second, I'd rather have a few dominating units that opponents have trouble adjusting to with a few weak units here and there rather than creating average units across the board = average team.

I could understand trading Landry IF the Dolphins didn't believe in Tannehill as the future at the QB position (don't really know either way). If he could net you some draft currency to use to select a QB in a QB-strong draft.. then I'm not sure anyone would be against it. The other route is wait and see if you can develop a quarterback in the 2nd or 3rd round, and not trade him at all.

IMO, the system and coaching is more important than the individual talent.

As a player, Landry is very good but he is not a top 5 WR in the league. Right now he is more important to us because, besides being a good player, he is helping to build a winning culture and establish the system. But... if we indeed hired a good coach in Adam Gase, Landry's value to us will decrease as the years go on and as the culture and system is well ingrained in Miami.

Then again, maybe it is wiser long term to keep him for a few more years so that he helps instill the culture among the incoming players.

If you can put aside emotions and think logically about this, it isn't an easy decision, IMO, at least not for me.

I don't get why they would want to trade someone that has been a model player here. all he's done is break records and pour his heart out. Gase keeps players like this. I mean why in the world would we resign Branch and Jones, Jones who held out a day and got injured and trade Jarvis?

The value of the slot WR is getting more and more developed. the best corner is not covering him. it is a mis match waiting to happen. Let's see what happens in NE now that Edelwoman is hurt.

Miami has flat out denied this rumor twice now...not sure why it's a topic. And besides, the rumor was, "Miami would consider trade talks for Landry...." meaning that if someone said, "Do you want to trade Landry," Miami would say, "It depends. What are you offering?" ANY TEAM with common sense would have that conversation- that doesn't remotely mean they're looking to trade anyone.

Sorry for the rant but I really despise false news...and I hate saying "false news" even more since Trump gives it a different meaning.

Its possible it was semi floated out there. Feedback came in. Value wasn't where they'd consider it.

Of course he does. He is that valuable. For once get him out the slot and see his keys stats, like % of catches on first down. If Miami undervalues him then they will get undervalue for him

Landry cannot, and should not, get paid like he's OBJ. He's great, but not in the same way, and therefore, he's less valuable.

Look at the Patriots. They always have guys like Landry, and they don't spend big time receiver money on them.

What is this percentage of catches on 1st down statistic? Are you saying he has a lot of receptions on 1st down or a high percentage of his catches go for a 1st down? Granted if that's why you're saying he deserves to be paid the money he is expecting I don't see it. I don't think any of us our questioning his value, it just dosen't out weigh his potential cost in the future.

Only stat measure I see is this...

    Did some calculation:

    https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-the-nfls-5-best-slot-receivers

Just from this tidbit, and from his total stats, you can extrapolate a lot of info. If he caught 856 yards from the slot, at 2.33 yprr, and 73.7% of his snaps were from the slot, then you can guestimate his snaps from out wide were 137-138 give or take. With all of this info I have:

    SLOT
    route ran: 367
    targets: 85
    catches: 65
    catch%: 76.47%
    yards: 856
    ypt: 10.07
    yprr: 2.3

    WIDE
    route ran: 137
    targets: 46
    catches: 29
    catch%: 63.04%
    yards: 280
    ypt: 6.086
    yprr: 2.03

His numbers out wide are NOT that good.

Nice work JDANG. Yeah I mean he is a fantastic receiver out of the slot, no one going to dispute that. I think most of us love the guy as a player, he grinds and does the dirty work but he's just not worth the money. He wants to be paid like the Julios, the beckhams, the green's but he's just not gonna get to that level in my opinion.

Let another team pull a Tavon Austin type move.

Not unsmartly. I think against Balt or Philly, we saw Cutler attempt to get the ball to Parker in triple coverage (I may be misremembering, but it was at least double).

We can say "Well, it's preseason....". But those kinds of throws can get your up and coming wideout smoked. He's lucky he wasn't.

I don't mind an attempt here and there, but let's be smart about it, something Tannehill showed last year in completing 61% of his passes of 20 yards or more through the air, 2nd in the NFL.

He also led the NFL by a good margin in percentage of passes resulting in TDs of 20 yards or more through the air at 17%.

Let's not get it twisted, Tannehill looked off at times, but I will certainly give him a pass learning a new system.

What I saw was an entirely different QB out there. His passes were crisp. His decision making better. His downfield passing BEAUTIFUL. He was a completely different QB than what I have seen in the past. Distribution was fantastic. I could go on and on. And this was after a pretty substandard first few games where I was damn near ready to write him off.

Something clicked last year. And I hate that he injured himself because I really felt like he was ready to break out. Sometimes it takes time. It happens to many athletes. If you're into golf, Dustin Johnson is a great example. Not many just break onto the scene. They show glimpses, but it takes some longer than others.

Anyway, while I think Cutler could end up having statistically a fine year, I just think you'll see some throws that will make you think "Brett Favre", in a good and bad way.

I do not think he will distribute the ball as well as Tannehill and I do not think you'll see the touch and accuracy of Tannehill; like the wheel routes to running backs. Some of these underneath throws may not even be in Cutler's wheelhouse. We'll see, but I'm just not convinced yet.

In saying that, I do hope Cutler minimizes the mistakes. Just because Parker looks fantastic this year, most of last year, he had lingering issues and isn't the same player mentally or physically.

Cutler is lucky to have a Parker who is primed to break out. Tannehill didn't have that luxury last year, but still had a great year throwing the deep ball.

Does it matter where he gets open from? He makes plays. He moves chains and to me, if the team moves their best corner inside, who is going to cover Parker and Stills?
