Huge, huge, huge difference in the case. Landry's "accuser" has said he has NEVER physically assaulted her or the child.
Yup, that says it all. If the NFL suspended every player that yells at a woman in the heat of the moment, then I'm guessing lots of us would have the chance to suit up for this season- because the whole darn league would probably be out of a job at some point.
It seems like Elliot's suspension is likely for a combination of events, over several years, not one isolated thing. Reading between the lines, it also seems that he's continued to ignore warnings about his behavior, over and over. I think that this is the league telling him that enough is enough, and that he really needs to wake up and change how he's behaving. Given his high level of exposure and the fact that he plays for Dallas, I would guess that they're hoping he does, and that this is the NFL equilivant of sending a movie star to rehab to sort things out. Jarvis' deal, it seems, was a one time thing that apparently was overblown and everyone has moved past. Very little in common.
Many abused people don't admit it for one reason or another, or on the other hand, people will vindictively say they were assaulted when they weren't. This is why there is an investigation, because you can't assume that what is being said is true, especially in the case of the actually abused, many times they fear turning in their abuser because of death threats given out by the abuser. Not saying this has anything to do with Landry's case, just saying that there is due process, it is what it is.
Remember also, the NFL's decision could be influenced by any charges laid, but not necessarily dependent on that happening. If the league feels that there was something going on, they can suspend him regardless of what the legal system does.
