I think it's an expensive insurance policy, I doubt JC is going to be expected to start the season. To come off a long layoff in which he wasn't training, coming off a shoulder injury at 34 years of age and learn the offense in a month is supremely optimistic, and pushing it. I think he gets him back into shape, inputs the O and has him in fighting fit form in case MM goes down, I'm sure Gase still has keeping his job as a top priority. This O is a bit different than the O in Chi, so JC will still have to learn this O, he'll have a head start, but he's still behind everyone else on the team.
100% agree, that's what no one is really talking about yes gase is here but the offense is a lot different the personnel is a lot different, we don't have 2 guys 6'5 to go up and grab everything slung down the field, cutler has never played with a wr like landry its going to be a big change for him more than I think anyone realizes.
Signing Cutler to a one year deal is worth a shot. He is likely a "legit NFL starter" , and the the Dolphins are signing him for about half the annual salary of most NFL starting QB's. I see this deal as significant upside without materially significant financial risk. What's not to like ?
If he was a legit starter the bears wouldn't have cut him for Mike glennon at 15 mill a yr!!! with no calls from any team to run their offense that put in my head he is no longer on a teams minds as a starter, all the stars aligned for JC, gase being at Miami and RT getting hurt I mean that's about as good as a situation you could ask for if your cutler and we paid him handsomely for a 11 yr qb whos only been to the playoffs once and I think only a 3 years with a record of .501 or better.
There's no way Cutler wasn't brought in to start. Even Gase admitted it, "he didn't come back to stand on the sidelines". IMO Cutler can be a top half QB with Miami this year. He has an incredibly strong arm, decent accuracy and decent mobility in the pocket. He's not as accurate as Tannehill nor as much of a leader or runner. He'll throw more interceptions than Tannehill would have this year but the TDs should be close. Cutler will probably have a few more big plays but fewer QB runs. He's a step down b/c I had a healthy Tannehill as a lock for top 10 and possible top 5 this year. Either QB will get the benefit of a much more balanced offense. I expect that the plan was to run the ball close to 50% of the time anyways. I suspect that Gase would trust Tannehill to make the right call in more situations than he will Cutler, but there's no way that anybody should consider this a bad solution. It's pretty obvious that the team likes Moore as a sideline presence, stop gap and pseudo coach but not so much as a starter for a full season. I agree. I think CKap has more upside, but familiarity and political BS make it a close call as to which was the better option here. In Gase I trust.
I've watched him play plenty. I've sat next to a freakin' Chicago Bears fan every Sunday when I'm out watching games for the better part of the last 15 years. Arm talent has never been his problem. Improv and untimely decisions have been, as well as lack of leadership. Gase coached him before and he was still the 16th rated passer in the league and the stats show that that was with him being "managed".
Beyond the numbers - that is largely the problem I see with the signing. I get it from a "fit" standpoint but Jesus, it's like a kick in the nuts for MM8. Why would you even have kept him this year if you were so frantically going to go out and sign another guy to be the starter in the wake of Tanny's injury? The right thing to do would be to make them compete. Gase doesn't have the balls nor proper perspective to do so.
Bushrod is the only guy I see saying this so far. There is a TON of comments and articles about other players' issues with Cutler. This is not made up.
As a Cuban in and from Miami, I wasn't so sure. There's a lot of Haitian and non-Cuban Hispanic fans that simply don't care. There's also a lot of liberal white fans in nearby counties. When it comes to baseball, you're talking about Cuba's de facto national sport. There was more outrage as a percentage of the fans of the Marlins when Guillen made his comments about Castro. Let's be honest here .... back in 2015 Gase confessed he literally had to manage the guy's body language during games. I hope it works this year I really do. But man this guy has been detached for most of his NFL career and thrown some absolutely boneheaded passes in the process. He'll dazzle you and then turn around and rip your heart out with mistakes.
My former team, the Raiders paid Matt Schaub about the same $10 million for a one year deal. And before that the Raiders were paying Carson Palmer about $15 million per year. Neither one of those guys was any more a "legit NFL starter" than is Jay Cutler. Seriously. The NFL is filled with QB's making more than the Dolphins are paying Cutler, and Cutler's skills are better than the majority of NFL QB's. Cutler is relatively old, which I believe is why teams were not looking to sign him when he left Chicago. When he left the Bengals, Carson Palmer was relatively old and no team was looking to sign him, either.
It doesnt matter what sport it is, you dont bring a guy like Kaepernick to Miami, even if his deal was to do landscaping at Tropical Park, you simply dont make that deal with kaepernick. You dont wear a shirt with a picture of Fidel castro and start saying that hes done so many positive things in cuba, whilst there are many cubans here that had family members removed from their homes and never to be seen again. It doesnt matter what the sport is. Its bigger than football or baseball.
You don't have to tell me, my family lived it. I'm just saying there's a lot of non Cuban Dolphin fans that don't care. I'm just saying the Marlins situation doesn't translate as well because baseball in Miami is so dependent on us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think the NFL understands just how deep the addiction goes, so I don't think people every really stop watching games when things like this happen. In most cases, I would argue Kaep being on the Dolphins would most likely increase viewer numbers because of the saga, so I don't think owners are really ever scared of any PR issues. Ultimately they bring in more money. Also, people are comparing the situation to Ozzie Guillen a lot but let's not forgot that Ozzie said ridiculous stuff practically every day. He got run out of Chicago and Miami because he was a nut job for a very long time, not just because of the Castro comment.
For the fans disappointed with the signing of Cutler, I have one question. Which available QB would you prefer that the Dolphins acquire ?
If "many teams wanted Carson Palmer", why was he sitting at home on his couch halfway through the 2011 season ? I think it's because no teams wanted to pay him $15 million per year. Once Jason Cambell became injured the Raiders were desperate, bit the bullet, and signed Palmer. The Raiders were not that good, though,.Hugh Jackson and Mark Davis were delusional thinking CPIII was going to lead a very average team with a below average roster through the 2011 Playoffs. The Dolphins right now are way better than the 2011 Raiders, so it makes sense to pay $10 million on a one year deal for Cutler.
It's good they gave up on the playoffs now. Cutler gives them a chance to draft early and line up Tanny's replacement in what looks to be a good QB draft.
I don't read it that way at all. Aside from the fact I doubt a single player on the squad wants to give up on anything, of the Dolphins wanted to give up on the playoffs they wouldn't have brought anyone in. I think Gase truly believes Cutler gives them a chance to win.
Don't worry, there will be a competition. Other than a few select franchises, I think every NFL team's QB position is up for grabs. I think the Dolphins signed Cutler (for a reasonable price) because he was the only proven NFL starter available to them. This is not a criticism of Moore. After Tannehill was injured the Dolphins had to sign somebody, so why not get the best QB you can? During preseason , if Moore performs better than Cutler, Moore will be the Dolphins opening game starter.
Adam Gase has earned the benefit of the doubt from me. There is absolutely no way the Dolphins should have been a playoff team last year with all of the disastrous injuries, and yet they still made it. If he thinks Cutler will help the team win, I say go for it.
" Cutler said in general, he feels fine. “The good thing is I play quarterback, so I don’t really have to be in that great of a cardiovascular shape,” Cutler said. “But I’ll be fine. Adam knows kind of what I’ve been up to, so we’ll figure it out along the way.” So what kind of activity did Cutler have while also preparing to be a Fox broadcaster? “Well we’ve got two boys so we’re always doing something,” Cutler said. “I’d go down to Vandy and do some stuff down there. And I was playing basketball in the mornings and there were football camps there. You’re around it. It will come back pretty quickly. I’m not worried about my arm and the throwing part.” Cutler said he was more concerned about getting to know his teammates. As for the surgically-repaired shoulder than ended his last Bears season? “It’s good,” Cutler said. “By March, I was cleared on that one. I’m a little behind these guys. They’ve been going through training camp and stuff like that. I’m not quite there yet, but it won’t take me long.”"
If I remember correctly no one was interested in Carson Palmer because he got hurt at the end of the Bengals year and his age I think the phins even had convos with him that year, but I could be mistaken. Matt Schaub signed a roughly high deal because of his roughly successful tenure with Houston and the sorry team it had. just happens even a moldy sandwich can look tasty with the right angle!!!! so that was a bust. I do agree with u a lot of qbs make more money than they are worth, im merely saying that there's not much "difference" based on winning games from Moore to cutler I could see if Moore was only going to win 4 games and cutler was going to come in and win 10 that's worth it. But 10-13 mill on the bases he might give you 1 more game. Vegas odds actually took a hit with the signing of cutler they are projected to win 7.3 games with cutler and 7.1 with Moore that's an expensive .2 percentage points!!!! IN my opinion the signing of 1 yr deal that could pay 13 mill his win percentage should have equaled RT or beat it. If cutler comes in sh!*s the bed and goes 1-5 then Moore takes over week 6 and wins 8 of the last 10 then it literally looks like gase isn't as smart as people think he is lol!!!! it would have better off paying someone in the range of Moores salary to back him up and see what the status is of RT or the draft for QB!!!
Just read on yahoo sports cutlers wife talked him into playing, if this is true this is looking worse and worse. He was accepting of his losing career and in no way wanted to prove everyone wrong = Not a gamer and collecting a paycheck SMH@!!!!!!!
