http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-mike-pouncey-to-have-hip-examined-next-week/ We will know early enough, Mangold on line 1
yeah for him wanting to see if he can be cleared is a positive thing, esp compared to last year at this time
I think this team should have their head examined for not having a good backup plan for the most important O-line position. Pouncey WAS a great player. He MAY be again, but right now...he ain't.
I always hear that, but great O-lines always seem to be anchored by a stable, high performing C. And once the Center changes, the chemistry seems to change more than when a Tackle changes. The Center affects the whole lines performance more, imo. While I agree the most important line position to have maximal TALENT at is LT, the most important line position to have CONSISTENCY at is Center.
When it comes to making line calls, you need someone who can make good ones. However, for the most part, center is the least important position on the line.
That is because Pouncey is one of the best. Without injury, he would be in the talk for a hall of fame career. Heck, fullbacks are going out of style, however, having a hall of fame type fullback would be very helpful and make a difference.
1000% agree was a major concern for me as well that this front office seems to really rely on injured players returning to form. Sometimes they do but most don't perform as wel anymore. Pouncy hasn't completed a full season in years. We should have traded him while he had value.
This. I agree with this... it worries me they just assume he going to come back to pro bowl level. Hips are kinda important to a center
Pouncy is no where near hall of fame IMHO. If anything his brother in Pittsburg is the better player! POuncy is a very good player on a **** oline and he stands out more
That's not possible however, how could it be possible that the one player besides the QB that touches the ball on every down is the least important? C, especially in this day and age with the complexities of O's now, is possibly the most important, but top 2, LT and C are the two most important OL positions. C's job is the most involved and complex, the only OL guy that has a job to do prior to blocking, and he has 2, make the call, make the proper read to make the proper call, so he has to be savvy, then he has to snap the ball, and he has to be perfect all the time, which takes dexterity and diligence in practice. C has to take on NT's, the biggest strongest guys on the field, and they also have to be able to pick the right guy to block when the play isn't straight at him, so discipline in his fall back is very important, so no matter what system you're in the C has to be able to zone block. There aren't 32 capable C's in the league, that should tell you everything you need to know, C is the most highly specialized position on the Oline.
