Madison is still my favorite DB I've ever seen for this team. Some of that's due to bad defenses we had for a long time.....some of that is just cause he was awesome. Hoping Howard and Tank can become our new Madison and Surtain.

During Madison's peak years, he was a top 5 CB, and he's also my favorite DB, he's underrated.

There was a 3 or 4 year run where I absolutely would have put him up against anyone. He was awesome.

I agree, he's underrated even by most Dolphins fans even. I think he was better than Surtain but I always felt like Pat was seen as the better player by most fans.

Brian is an amazing artist. My man cave has 5-6 of his pieces. He personalizes them and the uniqueness of it all, impresses people.

For whatever reason, though I loved having both on the team, I always liked Surtain more. Can't really quantify it. Maybe it was just their build, with Madison looking to lanky and Surtain stronger.

Madison though, is arguably the best corner in team history. He's certainly the best in my 30+ years as a fan. Once he became a starter in his second year, he had 8, 7 and 5 INTs the next three seasons, which is astounding. He was an absolute master at baiting certain QBs into throwing picks. I clearly remember him basically winning a SNF game vs the Titans almost by himself with three picks.

After that point, teams began not challenging him as much, and the defense worked by causing a lot of incomplete passes and forcing third and long more than actually taking the ball away so much, but he was still key.

In the end, he played nine years for the team, starting 127 games, and could have done more, but Saban wanted to go in another direction and he was expensive. While he and Surtian were paired up though, from 1999-2004 as the starters, we had one of the best pass defenses in the league.

Here's to hoping that Howard and Tankersly can develop into something similar!

I agree 100%, that time frame he was the best imo, QB's started avoiding him like the plague, Sanders is the best cover corner I've ever seen, period, notice I didn't say CB though.

Primetime was not sticking his head in no where to make no tackles on no RBs whatsoever, period, lol, so as a "do everything you can ask a CB to do well" player, Madman was > Primetime, for that 3-4 year period.

During that time frame, Sam was a full on, legit shut down island CB, you could leave him alone with any WR in the league, and they did, every game, and he could stymie the best WRs in the league.

When i think about that defense and Ricky.......it just reinforces how terrible Wannyidiot was that we didn't have a dynasty.

No coach on any time in period of the NFL did less with more.

Put any one of 15-20 head coaches and quarterbacks on that team instead of what we had, and those teams go to multiple AFC Championship Games, minimum. Also, the New England dynasty never gets off the ground.

Wanny wanted to run the ball and play defense. His biggest mistake, and how he wasted prime years for both the defense and Ricky, was to think that Fielder was "good enough" at QB. Jay played with heart, sure, but was painfully average as far as QB talent is concerned.

    Painful memories.

yes I agree. as much as people think, yes a good run game and defense is amazing, but you need a decent qb that can win a few games and have that 4th qtr instinct.
