I wonder what you are giving up though. We got Dragic and others to take paycuts because of the loyalties to each other. Would we lose something in the locker room trading Dragic and others?

That's actually a good point. I just keep coming back to what the best way to build a team is. Skin deep with three studs? More like the traditional Spurs? Miami didn't exactly have it easy when they had the big three. When any one of them was hurt it was tough.

I'm impressed he wants to go some good not great team to get them over the hump. Sounds like a Miami heat kind of dog.

On the Knicks, I suspect Melo would put the kibosh on a trade for Kyrie. He replicates some of what Kevin Love does for the team. All scenarios to this point have included Love to someone. I don't think he'd consider playing with Love and James to be nearly as good as playing with Irving and James. He's also seemingly bigger on Houston.

This Kyrie thing is the place Riley usually strikes but Kyrie doesn't have a no trade or free agency leverage card to play.

Not sure his list means anything to Cavs.

The real question to me is what does Cleveland know about LeBron's intentions? My guess is nothing. They are in the same place the Heat were except we were coming off a title and expecting a 3peat. Not the same for Cavs

So do you go get a Melo to appease him or do you just hold Kyrie and whatever LeBron does he does?

Tough situation. Couldn't happen to a better franchise

I must be in the minority but i am not crazy about Kyrie. He has never shown the ability to carry the team in Lebron's absence. The years Lebron was here in Miami, Cleveland was perennially at the bottom of the NBA.

If you look at the numbers the last couple seasons with Lebron on the Cavs but on the bench, Cleveland's efficiency numbers have been near the bottom of the league. Nothing about Kyrie Irving screams out that he can be the focal point of a franchise, its quite the opposite IMO. And i havent mentioned his extensive injury history. I'd keep the roster intact and hope we can lure over Lebron next offseason once we resign a bought out Wade. Thats just my 2-cents.

Nah im with you. I honestly think hes the most overrated player in the nba. He chucked the cavs out of the finals this year. He made some hail mary jr smith shot in a game 7 so everyone thinks hes jesus.

Sure, he doesn't have the leverage of a NTC, but are you trading major assets for a player that doesn't want to play for you? Using that logic, Cleveland could just hold on to him.

As far as the Bam talk, you can't trade a rookie until 30 days after they've signed. So Miami can't trade him right away, but if they wanted, they could pretty soon I'd think.

As for the Kyrie's not that good talk, I don't get it. He's a 25 year old bonafide all-star. He's one of the best ball handlers in the NBA. Can shoot, and can get to the basket. He's a poor defender, but that's an area Miami has shown they can fix if the player is willing. He's better than any player the Heat have and would attract other talent. I don't think the Heat are getting him without giving up Whiteside, but if they could it would be a no-brained for me.

    Stephen A. Smith on ESPN:

-Kyrie is mad because he didn't leak this. He feels LeBron's camp did.

-This could be more ammo for LeBron to leave. Apparently David Griffin was working on a deal to bring both Paul George AND Melo to Cleveland before he was let go, which pissed LeBron off.

-The T-Wolves are his top choice, but that Miami and New York are the two most likely, followed by San Antonio.

One scenario in that deal has Cleveland sending tristan Thompson to Phoenix and Bledsoe going to Cleveland.

That said, i wouldnt do it if i were Cleveland. Or New York. Im vehemently opposed to giving up picks when my team is more then 1 piece away and all it is, is a lateral move when you factor in youre mortgaging part of your future. Embrace the tank and slow rebuild. Stock assets and picks and move foward. If it takes time to do it right, then thats what has to be done.

Great bigs are infinitely more valuable imo just by rule of supply and demand. I can find a great PG on 3/4ths of the teams in the league. I cant find an C of Boogies caliber but on maybe 5 teams. No chance i would want that trade if i were a pelican fan.

Thank goodness the knicks already leaked something saying KP wouldnt be involved...which is smart.

That said this franchise never learns and said theyrewilling to involve picks. Duck Folan (there used to be t shirts banned from msg referencing the owner). He is the curse.

The argument FOR Kyrie boils down to one thing to me: he's really good shooting 3s off the dribble. And with how teams play now, that shot has quickly become one of, if not THE, most valuable shots in terms of scheme. It alters defenses by forcing them to be aggressive and disciplined defending PnR and DHO. It's like super floor-spacing.

The list of starting PGs who are legit hi-level threats to shoot pull-up 3s is pretty short. Steph, Dame, Harden, Isaiah, CP3, (this year) Kemba, and Kyrie.

    Looking at the teams of those players, here's how they finished 2017 in Offensive Rating: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 8th, 11th, 14th.

Kyrie is the youngest of those guys by at least two years. Plus he's efficient from all 3 levels. He's a stud offensive weapon who's just entering his prime.

What other team can offer Cleveland a PG as good as or better than Dragic? Bam also seems like the type of player that can see the court a lot as a rookie and as we have seen, has crazy upside.

The knicks don't have a PG other than an unknown rookie, the twolves just signed Jeff Teague and probably can't trade him yet. Who would the spurs give them who can play PG?

You're gonna have to do better than a middling point guard + a completely unproven rookie to get Kyrie. Total homerism to think otherwise.

A middling PG? Did you watch the Heat last year? He actually fits really well with the Cavs and wouldn't be a huge dropoff based on how they use their PG. I think it would cost Miami more than that, but out of the 4 teams mentioned, the Heat could be a good match.

It's also a far better offer than yours (Boogie) who would almost certainly be a 1-year rental.

This has been one of the craziest offseasons in awhile. There were reports that Kyrie would leave once he could if lebron had already left by then. Looks like he wants to beat lebron to the punch now.

Part of me thinks Cleveland should start the rebuild and trade everyone including LeBron. But the logical part of my brain tells me they will never trade LeBron because the fans would possibly burn the stadium down lol

Yes, I watch the Heat. They're my second favorite team. Did YOU watch Kyrie in the playoffs??? Dude got to the cup at will and finished seemingly every time. Dragic can't do that. Dragic is maybe the 15th best pg in the league, which makes him middling.

As for the previously proposed Boogie trade, I changed my mind. I want to see the AD/Boogie combo in action with a full offseason to get to know how to play together. I really like the Rondo addition. He's a PG who knows how to facilitate.
