After all the recent drama here, it was great to see that BBQ thread that went 3-4 pages without a single argument, insult or mud throwing. At first, I thought it was a silly topic to let stand in the Main Forum because it clearly wasn't about football, but maybe that's exactly what we need to have everyone call a truce and get ready for an amazing 2017 season.

So that got me thinking- is there any Miami Dolphins topic that 100% of us can agree on? This is what I came up with so far to test out-

    1) Cam Wake is secretly Bruce Banner in disguise. That's the only thing that could explain him playing at such a high level in his early 30's.

    2) Ajayi is going to have a record-breaking year and be in the running for top honors in total rushing yards.

    3) Adam Gase will likely be our head coach for the next decade or better. He was a gem of a find and he's successfully turned us around in Miami.

    4) Our offense will be one of the most improved in 2017 with one of the highest PPG averages in the league.

    5) No more double commercials between the extra point and kickoff will be the best rule change of the 2017 season.

    6) The Pats suck...and we will sweep them this season!

Have anything better that we could all agree on? Do any of my points ring a unanimous tone? Let's talk about the 2017 Dolphins until we can find something...and let's also agree to not derail this thread over past agendas.

We have the best set of skilled players in over 20 years. Also, going into camp this year, we have better personnel at OL, LB and in the secondary.

Technically, we can't agree on that because your sentence, due to lack of punctuation actually declares the team name to be "Miami dolphins in 2017" Therefore, I disagree with you.

The following is my un-debatable truth about this team:
For the 2017 season, our official team name is: Miami Dolphins.

    I win.

In all seriousness now though, If I had to pick from the OP's list.. I'm going with #5. That's got to certainly be a good thing, and something that we all will love. However, I do suspect the networks will just stick those commercials into the broadcast with extensions of regular breaks. I doubt they'll give up that advertising revenue.

So the next point, I think everyone can agree on could quite possibly be the one regarding Adam Gase.

I think we can all agree that...

-Adam Gase is a much better HC than Tony Sparano & Joe Philbin.
-Adam Gase is ranked much too low at 16.
-If we get through this first 5 game stretch with a 3-2 record, we SHOULD make the playoffs.

Man, there are some rather paltry glass is half empty answers out there. I'm surprised I haven't seen things like each game will feature a leather ball with laces or one that says players will wear shoes.

Where's the fire? Where's the unmitigated fervor and belief that this is the year we win a playoff game AT LEAST!!!???

I'm hoping it's the year...our schedule is intimidating though since there's very few slouches. We need to start fast and just let that momentum roll.

Yeah. I'm tired of every year seeing everyone cite the schedule. Based on PFF's analysis of our schedule it's actually not that bad. I think they only had us with:
Two RED games (very difficult) and they were Denver and KC.
Four ORANGE games (difficult) and they were Chargers, Carolina and both Pats games.
Four WHITE games (Outcome could go either way) and they were Tennessee, Atlanta, Buffalo, Buffalo
Three YELLOW games (Winnable) and they were Tampa, Baltimore and Oakland
Three GREEN (Very winnable) games Jets, Saints and Jets.

SO, let's say the color numbers are right (maybe the teams aren't as an example I think Oakland would be tough and Denver would be winnable so they flip flop. But that has 10 games in the white yellow and green that we should all win. Ok, so just do that and we're 95% likely to be back in the playoffs. But sure we want more. Now pickoff three more games and we're 13-3. Pick one of the teams above and tell me who we can't beat?

If our team is playing to their potential? Maybe the Pats or KC if they also have a good day. The Panthers and Oakland always make me nervous as well. There's nothing there non-winnable though if our whole team shows up.

Oh, I missed Atlanta in the white...that's always a worrisome game as well. Even so, I see 8-8 if we have 16 average games. I am expecting to be the same place we were last season though, right around 11-5 or 10-6.

I'll answer this question, and I think that it's not only me.

From 1972-2009 I did exactly that, but 2001-2009 is the problem, and in 2009 is where I contracted, "fractured fan syndrome".

If I'm being honest, it happened in 2007, but I was just to stubborn to allow myself to realize it until 2009.

It's like that moment when you realize your parents aren't perfect, it's like when you burn your hand on the stove for the first time, you feel betrayed by that big metal thing, but you weren't devoted to the big metal thing, so one time was enough to raise suspicions.

So, because of my devotion to my team, I keep burning my hand on the stove, I was getting scars.

    I think this analogy is quite fitting considering a certain recent thread;

I love my blue Weber Kettle grill, but I take precautions so as to keep the "getting burned" down to a minimum.

WOW!!! I didn't know about #5, that's the best news I've heard all offseason. Nothing pisses me off more than the double commercials after scores.

I think you lose your Dolphin fan card if you don't agree on Cam Wake as well.

I want to believe in Gase, and I'm starting to, but I'm with Finster. I have battered fan syndrome from watching Dolphins and Purdue football the last decade. If, nay, WHEN we make the playoffs this year, I'll be a full believer that things have truly changed.

It does for me. I'm not pessimistic but I don't invest as much anymore. My weeks are so much better. I couldn't even watch ESPN or NFLN until Wed after losses.

Unfortunately that feeling I used to have for the Phins, I have for fantasy football now. I don't even check my scores until after MNF. I can at least enjoy my sunday and most of Monday. and by MNF I'm like "whatevs" anyway.

Doesn't your situation differ a little? I mean didn't having kids play a bigger part in that then just choosing to care less about the gam outcomes?

Even if it didn't, doesn't this approach also lessen the highs?

Everybody is different, for me it was like a self preservation coping mechanism, I didn't land on fractured fan syndrome, fractured fan syndrome landed on me, lol.

My brother is a Steelers fan, we both follow each others teams and in a pure football sense I'm more excited about them, they could be flirting with history this year on O.

This has no effect on who I watch though, I'm a die hard Dolphin fan, it's part of my DNA now, I couldn't change that if I wanted to, but I love the sport and like the Steelers and they are loaded for bear this year and that is interesting in a football sense.

I haven't lost my passion for football, or the Dolphins, but my hope I keep simmering on the back burner, and won't move it to the front burner until we have all the ingredients in place.

to me, this takes some of the fun out of the game. It is fun going through the highs and lows. I watch football for entertainment, once I steel myself to not get hurt, it is practically a job. Why would I do that to myself?

It was before the kids. The kids just kept that going. Started to cool off around 2008-2009.

I'll let you know about the highs when it happens :D

My last super duper high was 2007. Screamed when Greg Camarillo scored that TD. And screamed when the Giants stopped Brady in the closing minutes in the super bowl. Those were my last NFL screams. Sad I know.

At least a playoff win. When that happens we'll gauge it. Haven't felt that since

You see, I can't relate to any of the negative stuff by you or others...I just can't. I've never felt fractured or upset at the team, even when we couldn't win a single football game. Well okay, the fist pump did piss me off a little when we'd take a 1 point lead in the 4th and start celebrating....we all knew what was coming. But I even enjoyed the Sparano years because our defense was pretty solid and we were competitive in most games.

For me personally, I always focus on the potential and the positives, even when we are losing. I made that long post last season that we were about to win six or seven in a row after starting so horribly, because I saw that the glaring problem was motivation. Once Gase went off and started firing folks, I literally felt the attitudes changing. And from that point forward even in the contests we did lose, I saw a team fighting and trying to turn things around. That allowed me to stay positive...and see that we were about to flip everything around and become a legitimate contender.

Some fans are always pissed off- even when we had those few blowout wins, they'd say, "Well, let's see what they do next week...the line still sucked. The corners gave up 27 points. Tannehill threw a few stupid picks." And on and on and on- they focused on the negative. I am the exact opposite though because life's too short to be mad or bitter, I'm always trying to talk about the good I see in things and how we can build on it. So even when we lost 33-14, I'm the guy saying, "But did you see that catch by Hartline? Did you see Landry run that dude over? This is a team on the verge of turning everything around."

You will never hear me say the Dolphins suck, the line sucks, the defense sucks, etc. That's just not me. The D did stink last season but it's because we were playing second and third stringers- those guys actually played awesome for a group that didn't belong on the field at all. I choose to see the positive in most circumstances.

In fact, I think that's where my issues with a few folks here came from- I just don't go dark and negative very often.
