I am interested in knowing what you all think was the single, biggest mistake this offseason. It doesn't mean it will be a complete detriment this season, however, fixing a preventable problem or plugging an obvious hole would be under this opinion.

I think the biggest mistake is relying on Pouncey to be healthy for the start of camp and being healthy during the season. Miami, somehow should have addressed this and signed a starter. I hope Pouncey plays, but I doubt he will.

    1. Not addressing the interior of the offensive and defensive lines more.

Did not sign any quality starters in free agency, and also did not draft any projected starters. We waited till the fifth round to address it and it is very doubtful wether Asiata, Godchaux or Taylor will pan out.

its hard to know what their thinking as far as the interior line goes...I guess Gase has given the front office the 'Im good'' signal..

I wanna say he knew Larsen from being with the bears, but Larsen wasn't there when Gase was coaching..

awful lot of faith for a guy on his 5th team.

The team seems to believe that they don't need better players at the guard position. From the outside, especially given our history there for years, its hard to wrap my head around. All we can do is cross our fingers and hope that it works out.

The single biggest mistake was the draft. I really think we went after need and not BPA.

This isn't a mistake yet, but it is the thing that worries me.
It is possible we overvalued our own FAs and depending on how they pan out after getting their payday willl make or break the season.

Other than that not addressing interior OL with proven solid starter level players is the other thing that makes me nervous.

We addressed our big need at LB in thevdraft and in FAvand the coaching staff seem to have made it a priority. We seem to have improved depth at DB and DL. So the big ticket items have been addressed on D.

    Huh????

You know, I'm not the smartest person in the world but uh...I'm QUITE sure teams draft what they need. It's kinda stupid to draft the "best player available" when he doesn't fill your need

Let's agree to disagree. Obviously you don't select a great kicker in the first round over a very talented QB but I don't agree with reaching based on need.

Plus, let's say we did go Foster, Obi and Nazair Jones like I wanted to. Couldn't we use them? Are we that stacked at LB, S and DL? No, we're not.

I do think when you are building a team that has a cap, you simply cannot just buy players for all your needs..development from within is highly important.

I agree that relying on Pouncey to be healthy and starting all season makes me a little "Queasy" (had to do it). I think that our biggest potential mistake might be not getting Landry locked up with a contract extension. Now I'm not saying they haven't tried or aren't still trying, but if they let him get to Free Agency that would be a huge mistake. I hope they get something done on that front before the season starts.

Back to Pouncey, Nick Mangold is still out there and could be had as a good insurance plan.

So Charles Harris is not a DE? Raekwon is not a LB? And didn't we bring in two safeties in FA? So is it the positions we didn't get which were just checked off by the way - or is it that the people themselves are not the guys YOU wanted.

The team addressed the same needs you listed but it appears it's more about not getting WHO you wanted rather than the teams needs.

The players I wanted are the players I think were BPA at our draft spots. Make an argument for our picks being better players than Foster, Obi and Nazair if you're going to criticize my argument. Same goes for Fin D.

Wasting all my time researching who we'd pick in first round. Was totally off and learned way too much about a bunch of players that we didn't take.

Paying Landry a huge contract that he doesn't deserve would be the biggest mistake. If hes demanding Julio Jones money and won't settle, then letting him test free agency is absolutely the best choice.

Well this is the only valid argument I can make...

The people who picked Harris, Raekwon and the 2 brought in through free agency get PAID for their expertise where you, me and everyone's opinion in here are like buttholes...they they aren't worth the poop that comes out of them, otherwise we'd all be rich for talking out of our asses all of the time.

We know you disagree, you've stated the same thing multiple times. The problem is that you aren't allowing that the FO (or anyone else) might have thought Harris, Kwon & Tank were BPA. Instead you just up and declared that they didn't care about BPA at all and you did so for no other reason than they picked differently than you would have. Disagreeing with the picks is perfectly fine and valid, the problem is because they disagreed with you, you claimed they don't care about BPA. That says more about your ability to reason than their ability to judge talent.

Foster was not BPA, he has more read flags than almost anyone. Obi fell to the 2nd round for a reason and Kwon is a great prospect.
Tank is a 2nd round talent at the end of the third round.

Harris was considered to many as a top 15 talent.

You can disagree with the picks all you want, however, it is obvious they went BPA

IMO, the biggest mistake of the offseason was not trading down. I think there was a lot of talent in the third round and Harris is not a good enough prospect for me to not want more prospects.

Let's agree to disagree. I don't see how you can argue the players we landed are more talented than the ones I mentioned. It seems to me that he thought "Hm, Wake is getting old, let's go with Harris. Our LB core needs improvement, let's go with Kwon." So on and so forth.

Yes, we know you think you they went need. And again, the only reason you think that is because they picked different than you would have.

Try it from this angle....if you had just said you thought the biggest mistake of the offseason was our draft because you like these other players better than there'd be a different discussion. But instead, you made a ridiculous statement (they don't care about BPA and went full need) that you know nothing about based on no evidence then who you would have picked. Your analysis doesn't prove or even imply their motivations.

    Talent does not mean best.

Harris was their #1 hope to drop to #22 as he was the top player on their board for players who were there. Lamp would have been a bigger need pick in this round.

Also, Miami did not "need" a linebacker. They could use a linebacker. In fact, Obi would have been a much more need pick.

I 100% disagree with you. In fact, looking at this draft, they drafted more by BPA than going by need. It is not surprising at all if none of the players in the first three rounds start.

    That doesn't make sense.

There are really 2 drafting philosophies here, BPA and Need. You claimed the FO went need. The ONLY thing that you have to say that is they picked differently than you. Dupree already explained to you that picking Harris over Lamp is going BPA over need and going Kwon over Obi is BPA over need, etc.

Again, it's perfectly valid for you to think Obi is better than Kwon or Foster is better than Harris. But making the leap to saying that the FO went need over BPA is asinine and wholly inaccurate and why people are taking you to task.

If you want to argue who will be better, than go for it...but you have precisely **** all to say the FO went need over BPA.

You claim that the Dolphins drafted for need by drafting LB, DL, DB in the first 3 rounds and then list 3 players that you wanted that play, LB, DL, and DB. Do you know what's happening right now? lol

I dont know if I agree with you Dupree for the following reason...

As much as I DESPISE the Dallas Cowboys, they were actually looking at trading UP to get Harris...and Dallas has had a pretty good track record and spotting great talent.

I dont think he's going to be the bust that Jordan was. I think he's going to be the heir apparent to Wake and our aging DE's. I actually think we got quite lucky with Harris.

    Only time will tell.

First of all, they're not all the same positions, just the same group, so you're being disingenuous. DE isn't DT. Harris does not play the same position as Nazair. Tankersley is a CB, Obi is a S.

You know you can pick according to need depending on the severity, right? If the GM feels Wake is so important you need to reach for a DE first, that's still drafting according to need.
