You don't know that. It's easy to spell things wrong multiple times in multiple messages if using a mobile device, because spell check will keep reverting to what it thinks is right regardless. Whether it's shown here as Zack or Zach though, everyone knows who we're talking about. I get what's going on... just saying... at the end of the day, who cares, it doesn't need to be a big deal IMO, adn I'd hate to see people post less because of stupid things like that... Not that it's happening or anything with D25, but I'm sure some other newbies could feel that way. Anyways... sorry, carry on.
Back on topic....Agree with what DJ said abut getting the best 3 LB on the field. However, let the Chef (Raekwon) earn it and take it from a vet like Misi who when he's actually on the field is a decent enough player.
I don't think it will take long for the rookie to supplant someone as truly there isn't a MLB right for the scheme other than him on the roster. If he continues to tackle the way he did in college it will take about one damn game to see what needs to happen. He's not a three down linebacker to begin with.
I have a feeling that our LB corp will actually become a strength this year. Timmons is a key piece but that's all we've had for a long time now...pieces that don't necessarily fit together to make one bad-assed unit. So it all depends on the intangibles if these guys pull together and continue that spirit from last season (without the "next man up" philosophy we were forced to use). The big thing is that we're healthy. I think folks forget how big of a deal that is compared to how we finished 2016.
I don't know. But the notion that we can remove him from the field in passing situations is somewhat hyperbolic in that we won't be able to do that 100% of the time in those situations. Win the league running a hell of a lot of RPO he will be exposed to it. But mind you I don't know that we can't scheme around those situations to a degree. Regardless he will be attacked, but having both Timmons and Alonso on the field does make us more athletic as a whole regardless of Raekwon's limitations athletically in pass coverage. I don't think he's a lumbering backer, but nor is he in the same mold as Alonso. I think in the end Raekwon will be a guy who uses intelligence to get the job done in much the same way Hightower does for NE. Hightower will never set he world on for with his athleticism, but he is similar to Raekwon in my humble opinion. Raekwon has to prove he can be what Hightower has become though. Edit: This kid will be the guy from this draft that stands out. **** me is he similar to Hightower. The draft we had was not flashy, but we became a hell of a lot better than many realize.
I didn't pay any attention to Raekwon leading up to the draft...but after we picked him I watched some of his stuff and came away incredibly impressed. Seeing you buying into this kid makes me feel 1000x better about what I was seeing, as I don't really trust myself with college tape too much. To me, he seems like an LB prodigy.
cool...have you seen his combine work?...sometimes outside the hashes it doesn't look like his athleticism shines, but ill be damn, the kid can run and flip and plant..I think him learning how to cover from Timmons will be awesome for his future in that dept, Timmons can really cover for a linebacker, regardless what some folks believe, he can cover..folks have criticized him because of the patriot game, yeah well, the steelers had him on eddleman.
watching Timmons play is not something I've seen in a dolphin uniform in a very long time..he's better than dansby..
The notion that Raekwon is athletically limited is a bit lazy imho. It fits into the predetermined mold of a hypothetical mike LB but is not true. He looks very athletic to me and combine numbers support that notion at least. He may not be completely refined in coverage as far as technique and zone awareness go, he will benefit from playing with and learning from Timmons, but he can cover guys. He is a good athlete. He had some problems when he was an overhang player against options and RPO in college but in the NFL you cant do what can be done in college so I think that is a non-issue. And btw defending RPO for a middle linebacker is the toughest thing to do in the world if the scheme doesnt protect you.
No pressure on me to be right huh? Just kidding. The kid tackles, and not only that he has a nose for the ball. He doesn't have blazing speed but he has instincts. I remember Dick Vermeil saying that he'd rather have players with instincts over speed. His reasoning was that if you have no idea where the ball is all the speed in the world won't help you find it. But players with instincts make up more ground because they are already in position. He will be the most instinctive backer we've had since Zach IMHO. I'm going to show my age here, but I played against Zach in our season opener at PSU and Raekwon has some similarities to his game from an instinctive point of view. The kid can find the ball and hits like a ton if bricks.
Are you trying to tell me you want to make Fin D and Con babies? I don't know if the world can handle that much smart assed sarcasm.
As long as there is no eye contact...... Seriously, there's probably a NATO directive meant to keep that from happening.
I love talking about our young players.. The kid is going to be 20 years old for most of the season...let that really sink in..I think he's the youngest player in the league. I can't wait for him to learn from NFL coaches and players.. Such great leadership qualities as well...communicator. " I just did what Raekwon told me to do".....his teammate.
Con and Fin, check this out....watch the first gif in that link...watch the lateral explosiveness and extension on the tackle, measure the ground covered in one motion..I mean he actually comes to almost a stop, then explodes laterally...ive heard some criticise his lateral ability..lol http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2017/4/28/15399872/raekwon-mcmillan-dolphins-nfl-draft-2017
Oh yeah, not only is he the youngest player in the league, lb for lb, this dude is so so very strong, all natural power coming from the legs, hips, and glutes..ive seen his squat 500 lbs for clean reps......in high school...he had the talent and strength to be an elite power lifter if he wanted to go that route.. And the body for the next level is built perfectly for the position.
Scary young football player..I tell ya..the quiet intensity combined with the raw power he possesses is scary.
That almost stop was to intercept the runner at the hole which forced the runner to bounce it outside and Kwon still gets the tackle eventhough Kwon had to dodge lineman and his own players. It's actually pretty incredible. Yeah, some guys are all cut and ripped and we call that strong, but there are other guys like Kwon, who are just "skin sacks filled with concrete" strong...like George Foreman back in the day.
yup, I had to watch it a couple times because I couldn't figure out if that was him on the play or someone else, cause for a split second, you lose him in traffic, its really a great play from start to finish, not only textbook, but shows athleticism when he explodes laterally from the hash to almost the numbers.
yeah, I think I'm figuring out the disconnect between the combine athleticism he showed and why some folks are not seeing that on the field.. I think he stays in control of his tempo a lot of the times..always measuring the play and ball carrier...but, when he needs to explode, the reserve is there...
lol...so theres this play where he taps the as# of his lineman to tell him where to shift, the play ensues, Kwon shuffles laterally to read, lineman cuts him and sends him flying, he lands superman style on the turf, then immediately bounces up in one motion and makes the tackle.
Matt Miller ✔@nfldraftscout Just watched Raekwon McMillan running step-for-step with Saquon Barkley on a wheel route. Should have #Dolphins fans excited. Barkley is a great running back prospect out of Penn state...first round talent.
maybe the mods should put these Kwon takes in its own thread?....I can keep going...if it wasn't for this kid I would be pissed as hell that we didn't draft Cunningham..
https://www.fanragsports.com/nfl/nguyen-raekwon-mcmillan-underrated-lb-nfl-draft/ 2nd gif demonstrates the power of Kwon..watch for the jolt {understatement when you take a 300 and lift him off the freakin ground?, dude gets air.lol..and of course makes the tackle.
yup the first one was special in its own way, didn't fall for the qb deception..beautiful linebacker play on all counts showing all kinds of talents.
you want a strong player that translates to the next level, someone who is physically ready to play.. watch this...intensity for a young kid is indescribable.
