Adding new ones as I come across them.

    Miami Dolphins: B-

The Dolphins are a team that came into the draft understanding their needs. Miami didn’t get fancy and trade around. The team just went down its needs list and checked each one off. That started in the first round with pass rusher Charles Harris. He might begin his career as a rush specialist, but he fits on a team that added run-stopping specialist William Hayes.

On the second day of the draft, the Dolphins continued on defense, getting linebacker Raekwon McMillan of Ohio State and cornerback Cordrea Tankersley of Clemson. Both could develop into starters. My grade would be higher if they picked up an interior offensive lineman earlier in the draft, but they still found one in Utah’s Isaac Asiata in the fifth round. Defensive linemen Davon Godchaux and Vincent Taylor provide solid depth.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/04/29/nfl-draft-grades-team-picks-results-analysis

    Miami Dolphins: B

The Dolphins’ draft was as noteworthy for whom they passed up as the prospects they actually took. Charles Harris (No. 22 pick) gives them needed depth off the edge, but G/T Forrest Lamp was available there, as were LB Reuben Foster and multiple corners. Raekwon McMillan (No. 53) could be a very good, three-down linebacker, but Zach Cunningham went shortly thereafter to Houston. And Miami chose hit-or-miss CB Cordrea Tankersley (No. 97) over others at his position (i.e. Rasul Douglas) and multiple interior linemen. Frankly, their best pick relative to value might be fifth-round guard Isaac Asiata. He’s a road grader who can start as a rookie.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...rbacks-and-high-marks/?utm_term=.6273b36a88b9

    Miami Dolphins: B-

The Dolphins focused in the early rounds on their defense. LB Charles Harris, taken 22nd overall, should fit in well. It could be argued, though, that the Dolphins should have continued their trend of devoting major resources to their offensive line and taken G Forrest Lamp with that choice. They did come back in the fifth round to get a guard, Isaac Asiata.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...ades-2017-best-worst-classes-picks/101083944/

    Miami Dolphins: C+

Seems like a decent, if not particularly noteworthy, group. Pass rusher Charles Harris (Round 1), LB Raekwon McMillan (2) and CB Cordrea Tankersley (3) all have upside along with attributes to their games that seem like worrisome flaws. Don't be shocked if fifth-round G Isaac Asiata winds up playing the most as a rookie.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/galler...s-giants-steelers-how-did-your-team-do-042917

    Miami Dolphins: B+

The Dolphins hit their needs. Charles Harris will contribute on the first day, and while Raekwon McMillan is a strange fit, he could be the linebacker the Dolphins need. Cordrea Tankersley might be the steal of this draft — him falling to the third round was crazy.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...7-nfl-draft-quicksnap-grades-for-all-32-teams

    Miami Dolphins: A-

Miami definitely needed to get younger in its pass rush, so seeing Harris on the board was a godsend. He'll need to improve against the rush to be an all-around player on the edge, but the pick will still be very good if he can make an impact attacking the quarterback sooner than later. Finding a linebacker of Raekwon McMillan's stature in the second round was a steal. Clemson's Cordrea Tankersley has a chance to start in Year Two for the Dolphins, as well -- he was an excellent pick. With Laremy Tunsil moving outside in 2017, the Dolphins found an immediate starting guard in Isaac Asiata in the fifth round. Godchaux bolstered the defensive line depth on Day 3.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    http://draftwire.usatoday.com/2017/04/29/nfl-draft-grades-full-analysis-of-every-teams-2017-class/2/

    Miami Dolphins: A

The marriage of value and need is always the name of the game in the draft, and the Dolphins did a fantastic job of making those two things meet at just about every pick. Missouri’s Charles Harris is an inconsistent but explosive edge rusher, while Ohio State linebacker Raekwon McMillan and Clemson defensive back Cordrea Tankersley are talented enough to be immediate starters.

Miami added another potential starter at a position of need with fifth-rounder Isaac Asiata from Utah, then stole Virginia Tech receiver Isaiah Ford with their final pick in the seventh round. Adding defensive line depth in between was also a big win for the Dolphins (LSU’s Davon Godchaux, Oklahoma State’s Vincent Taylor).

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/p...eams-five-earn-as-and-two-fall-short-with-ds/

    Miami Dolphins: B+

The Dolphins did a nice job with their draft, landing pass rusher Charles Harris in the first round. He fills a need, and he's a productive player. Linebacker Raekwon McMillan brings some speed to a group that needs it. Adding corner Cordrea Tankersley in the third round and guard Isaac Asiata are also good picks and fill needs. It was a good draft.

You get that logic out of the mains immediately, sir. **** looked like a ghost town though.

I liked our draft for the most part for sure.

We're going to hurt from suddenly losing IAQ but it's part of the game.

SI's write up seems to be where I'm at. On paper, a B grade seems fair. If our players develop, there is definitely A upside when we look back in three years.

I really loved Reuben Foster for the Fins coming into this draft. When I read he might need a 3rrd shoulder surgery, not so much.

Loved the Harris pick. He has skills you can't teach. Nasty 1st step and a 2 way spin move. A few more pounds and some technique improvements and this kid should be very good.

The 3 year Mike from OSU should be fine.

Not really a fan of the Tankersley pick. Fins already have some pretty solid corners already and this dude seems to shy from contact.. If he makes the team, great.

    Grabbing Asiata was sweet.

    CBS round up:

As for me personally, this draft was a solid B+ for me. The only thing that I would have done differently is at least listen to the two phone calls in the 1st round, and trade down for the extra pick(s). Then I would have looked for TJ Watt, Jordan Willis, Lamp, or Taco.

Other than that, I think that Miami really killed it from the second round onward. My favorite picks were Raekwon McMillan, Isaac Asiata (unreal value and still blows my mind they got him in the 5th), and Davon Godchaux (another great value pick and I'm glad that Miami did their homework on his domestic abuse charges - which were later dropped).

I really love, LOVE that they concentrated on defense in this draft. This is exactly what this team needed: an infusion of youth and building depth on the defensive side of the ball. In fact, I believe Miami was the last team that waited to pick an offensive player in the draft (Asiata in the 5th). You have to admire that they stuck to their board, were methodical in the process, and didn't give away any future picks.

    All in all, very happy.

Thank you, FinD for the collection of writeups.

Im similar to Clark. I give it a comfortable B+ myself, with the belief that it could absolutely look like an A in a few years time. We didn't knock it out of the park, but we didn't seem to mess it up in any way either. Our front office was smart and took who was there.

I think that Harris, Raekwon and Asiata are all big contributors right away, and that all of them are good starters no later than 2018. Harris and McMillan look to be long term guys that we can build around in our front seven, and we needed that badly. I like the depth that the two DTs bring, and by doubling up, it increases the chances at at least one of them pans out. Tank is the wild card. I liked other DBs who were available there more, but he'll be thrown into the fight for playing time with everyone else, and hopefully he can do well.

Perhaps most importantly, every single defensive player seems to fit right in with what the team is looking for in his role. They weren't just good players who were BPA when the pick cam around, they were clear fits for the schemes that we run and what we need out of each position. I love that. The people in charge, after so long, have a plan in place and they're sticking to it. We'll see how well that works, but its off to a good start, and I'm on board.

    I like the pieces personally.

Between the first 3 guy's drafted I think 2 of them will end up as solid starters at some point with one fizzling out. That's just the NFL for ya.

Tankersley obviously is the biggest gamble, but he also may present the biggest reward down the road. I like how Lippett and Howard developed (and still are). If we can get Tank on the same elevator we could end up with a fantastic young secondary in 2018 and beyond.

I think Harris has a very high floor, if he doesn't have the highest ceiling, the dude will grind whatever grist the mill needs, his run D is eminently fixable, it's not lack of strength it's lack of technique.

McMillen has a very high ceiling, Timmons should be a big help to him(and every other LB) as I think the idea will be for RM to start out at sam and take over at mike.

We got 2 vortex motors with the top 2 picks.

Tank has a VERY high ceiling, look, I watched the dudes tape and there were some "cover your eyes and peek through your fingers" moments as far as run D, not gonna lie, the worst I've ever seen I think, "how does he stay on the field" bad, until you watch him cover, and then be like, "oh, ok, there's how he stays on the filed", lol.

Dude has potential shut down CB skills, and in the NFL he won't be able to "run away"( because that is literally what dude does at times) from tackling RBs, coaches and teammates will simply not allow that, so as bad as it was I'm not worried.

Asiata has a high ceiling, always love me some Islanders anyway, it may be an American created sport, but the football god is an Islander, he may very well have the best chance of starting right away.

Godchuex(spelling?) also has a pretty high ceiling imo, but has a higher floor then what you'd expect from a 5th rounder(as does Asiata), I think he plugs right into the rotation and may take the starting role before the season is out.

Last time I was this happy with a draft JJ was the coach, this could very well be one of those "franchise changing" drafts, I'm excited.

I share the sentiment that people are saying on this board that they haven't felt this good about a draft in a long, long time. I didn't see us reaching or making foolish trades with our draft picks. Even if there is not a single pro bowler in this draft class, I feel confident that these guys will stick around for quite some time. These guys also have an easy path to contributing early. Finally, I think there is a very high floor for all of these guys.

Harris - Even if he doesn't start this year, he will at least be a rotational guy and a pass rush specialist.
McMillion - Of all of our rookies, I think he the most likely to start week 1. Even if he fails to crack the starting lineup, he will be much better than anyone we had coming off the bench last year. He excels in what we were bad at last year (run stopping).
Tank - He was probably our riskiest pick. He looks the part for our system and certainly can cover man to man. He needs to work on his intelligence (Brady would pick him apart) and tackling. He may require some development.
Asiata -There is a very real chance that he starts week 1, and if he doesn't, he certainly can be a rotational guy.

Godchaux, Taylor, Ford - I am a realist once it comes to the second half of the draft. Because of our depth issues, Godchaux and Taylor have very real opportunities to carve out roles within the team. I could see one of these two guys earning playing time. I think Ford faces the greatest uphill battle to make the roster. With Landry, Parker and Stills having their positions set in stone, we are left with Carroo, Grant, and Scott (who I think is more liked by the coaching staff than people realize). I have a hard time believing that we will give up on Carroo based on what we gave up to get him, so I will call his position a lock as well. I personally, was underwhelmed by Grant's return ability, but I think the team sees Grant as a big play waiting to happen on the return game. Personally, I like/trust Drake much more than Grant, but it I do think Grant has a slight edge here. My guess is that Ford is a practice squad guy barring an injury.

Not cool. Don't like his posts, argue with them, or if you don't want to bother put him on ignore. He posted his grade, making a new grade for him to call him out is not cool.

For me this was a solid A. Love the Harris pick, and as was pointed out in club, McMillan was born in November of 1996! Talk about upside, the kid was 19 when he played last year! 19 and defensive captain of Ohio State, first team all Big 10. He also ran a 4.6, I think his pass D can be coached up.

I see a lot of criticism of McMillan over Cunningham. I get Cunningham is more athletic and all, but I see why our FOnwerre higher on McMillan. OurLBs last year sucked at tackling, and that's a strength for McMillan and a weakness for Cunningham

Im not much on grades but id call this an average draft

Value wise i think we got the picks right the first 2 days i just would have gone different routes...

And i dont like corners that are allergic to tackling in a scheme that asks the corners to help in run support as much as ours

Thought it was a solid draft. We hit on every position of need and got good value on them. Seems to have a kind of low key feel to it, but really the entire offseason has and I find that oddly refreshing.

Weird draft for me but I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm kind of with the Washington post in that I liked or didn't dislike the picks but thought better players were available in the first three rounds. Then again if we went strictly bpa we might not have filled all the holes so what do I know. Hopefully they all pan out

Been reading quite a few articles on the draft and how the Dolphins did overall. As usual, mixed reviews. Reminds me of politics....if you like the Dolphins, they had a great draft; if you don;t, they did ok. Meh.

I did read one thing though on Fox sports and they said we got a GREAT deal on Tankersly...a player ready to be a day one starter.

That's great because I definitely want to keep the Jay Train running!!!

I think it's important when grading a current draft that you remove the disappointment from your personal faves not being picked. I think (and this will be controversial) that you also can't grade the current draft based on who else was available at the pick. Now, a few years after the pick you can grade based on who else was there, but not right after.

You have to grade the current draft based on the players themselves and how you view their potential. Personally, I'm meh on a lot of the picks and UFDAs.

    - I'm indifferent on Harris, I cannot predict that one.
    - I think Raekwon is going to become the steal of the draft. He is a young, young player who was made captain of a GREAT college defense, multiple times. He oozes leadership. He will be huge for us.
    - I think Tank is going to stick with the team for a bit and be very feast or very famine to the point people are going to hate him.
    - Asiata I think will stick. I don't think he'll be terrible or great, but his attitude will cause some headaches but also make a lot of fans.
    - Godchaux will be a roster bubble guy by next year, possibly this one.
    - Gerry same as Godchaux
    - Taylor will stick. I think he'll become the typical DT that has enough promise to get some loyal fans for the next few years.
    - Ford is in the Gerry and Godchaux boat.
    - UFDAs: Morgan, Praise and Eric Smith will make the team and be extremely important. I think Smith and Praise will be starters actually. I think Morgan will be a key component.

It was what I saw at first, but when I hit reply to let you know about the red X, then I saw the gif, and I kind of pictured some guy(you) having a similar response staring at your screen somewhere, and I thought that was pretty hilarious, like at work or something, lol.

I tend to grade drafts basically on the idea, "If the picks work out, is the team overall better."

One of the reasons I hated the Jamar Fletcher pick, if it worked out, the team would not be that much better.

Miami needs a defensive end who can rush the passer. If Harris works out, Miami is a lot better.
Miami needs a middle linebacker, and a leader. If Raekwon works out, Miami is better.
Miami could use another cornerback and Maxwell is pricey compare to how good he is. If Tank works out Miami is better.
Guards are a huge need. If Isaac works out Miami is a lot better.
Six round is a waste of my time, seven round even more so.

So basically, I think Miami's draft is fine. I think a Safety would have been a better pick in round 2, however, not having a good quarterback of the defense has hurt Miami and having only one linebacker worth his weight in salt last season, also hurt Miami.

When I considered a draft I like to break it down into components:

Value - Where the players selected good value for the spot they were taken? In this regard I think the FO did an outstanding job. Harris dropped because of a run on offensive players, Tankersly was considered by many to be a 2nd round talent, Asiata was a steal in the 5th and even Ford seems like good value in the 7th. Overall I'd give them an A on value.

Need - Did the team fill their needs? Going into the draft most people thought DE, LB, S and IOL in some order were the greatest needs on the team. In terms of need I think the draft produced mixed results. Harris, McMillan and Asiata fill immediate needs on the team. Saftey was ignored and CB seems like more of a BPA pick than a need. I'll give the lower round guys a slide as by that time you are looking more for BPA then need. Overall I'd give the team a B in terms of need.

Fit - Just because you select a player for a position, it doesn't mean that their skill set will translate well to what your team demands from the position (think blocking TE when you really need someone to threaten the seams). In this regard there doesn't seem to be any glaring miscast of talent. Each player selected seems to excel at what is required for the position in the schemes we run. Harris's speed off the edge can be lethal from the wide 9 position, McMillan is the thumper in the middle needed for this defense, Tankersly is essentially a Maxwell clone (at a much more attractive price) and Asiata has the athleticism to fit a zone blocker scheme. Overall an A

Opportunity Cost - Lastly you need to look at who was also available at the pick. This is the trickiest part of a draft evaluation because we all have our opinions on which players we like better. As fans we obviously don't spend the time analyzing the players or know the rational behind why a team favors player X over player Y so if its close I tend to believe the FO had a valid reason for their preference. Sometimes there are alternatives that just seem like so much better of a fit. This year there were plenty of other players available that would have also been good selections; Lamp or Peppers over Harris, Cunningham or Obi over McMillan etc... but these all seem to fall into the too close to judge category. I think opportunity cost is more of a pass/fail grade and I'd give them a pass.

Overall I'd give the team a B+. Safety was a need and this was a deep saftey class so I'm disappointed they didn't take one. Otherwise I think it was a success filling needs with players that fit the system and were good value at the selection.
