Loved this draft! Ford is a great pick and will make an excellent slot receiver! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Chad Kelly miscalculated his stock by a mile... and i seriously thought he would be a first rounder but jeez.. last pick and all?
Ford is ok, but we really dont need another slot reciever. This draft was mediocre overall, hated the first pick and the fact we didn't trade down, I liked the middle three picks, but don't like the last three picks at all. Overall C+ grade imho. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Honestly he's not a bad talent but no one wants to risk the leader of your team on a headcase. It's one thing to draft a women beater on defense but a loose cannon qb is rather risky. So the fall makes sense from that aspect. If for some miracle he got his **** together he could end up a solid pro imo.
There's a few ways to look at a statement like that... Positive: We drafted players who will (hopefully) grow and evolve in time to replace Wake, Timmons, and Maxwell. Negative: We're not good enough to have the luxury of drafting for competition and depth. This is a team that needs impact players both short and long term and we passed on guys with the ability to start asap. I'm kind of feeling mixed. Not sure how I feel about Charles Harris. I'm very nervous about him. I'm taking the wait and see approach. I liked day 2 a lot more. Day 3, I liked the Asiata pick.
I agree. I didn't like day 1 because we didn't trade down when we could have and instead picked harris who is very flawed and overrated. The day 2 picks ahi liked, and among the day 3 picks I only like Asiata. C+ grade overall. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Or you could look at it like, when healthy we have a playoff team without any of these guys. And they think these guys can compete for starting spots and be quality backups.
Oh sure, you act like we are stacked and have no weaknesses or any need to draft starters. We were extremely lucky to make the playoffs last year because of a weak schedule and several games that we could have easily lost going our way. Our first game in the playoffs we got killed by the 5th seeded team. We should not be acting overconfident like we are in great shape and don't need any of these guys to start. If Harris is only ever a "pass rush specialist" for Miami, he still brings plenty of value. Sure, you'd like him to be a more complete player, but even at #22 the pass rush ability makes it worth it. I think we now have depth at LB and after the nightmare of last year, it feels good that we have a kid to step in for Misi when he goes down in week 5 or 6. Asiata might end up only as quality depth, but again, still better than what we had in recent years. The offense should be good-great, the defense should be improved to decent but will take another year to get to good.
Raekwon probably will. Harris will see significant time. Tankersly will be a bit more of a question mark, but that is more on Maxwell and Howard than Tank.
While not relevant to Miami, I just want to say how much I liked Cleveland's draft. More importantly, I love his attitude of acquiring as many premium picks as humanly possible. I don't understand why more GM's don't approach the draft with Jimmy Johnson's attitude of pick collecting. More picks, more better. Your odds of hitting on quality starters increase and the misses are significantly more tolerable. It's the best of all worlds. And yet, Sashi Brown (and Belichick to a degree) are the only ones practicing this philosophy on a regular basis.
I agree completely. That's why Jimmy was known as a draft genius it's not that he didn't have his share of busts but he stacked up so many picks in each draft that the hits overshadowed the misses. It's absolutely the best strategy to have when drafting. Play the numbers game with more picks to increase your chances of success. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
It's been confirmed that they could have traded down, but what were the offers? You, nor I, know that answer so why get pissy about it or make assumptions? It's always easy to assume, but the truth is usually more complex than that. Harris is a consensus top 15 pick. We got him at 22 and he fills a huge hole for the Dolphins. McMillian is a great run stopper and, I've been told, the 2nd or 3rd faster LB'er in the draft. Yes, he needs to shore up his coverage skills, but he's only 20 years old. He's not even done growing...lol Tank is a fast, long, man cover corner who will soon be taking over a high contract player (too high IMO) in Maxwell. He needs work, but he's got the skills. I do wish he was smarter...lol..I hear he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. Asiata is a nasty OG that can play both sides or center if needed. Davon will be a space eater and open up things for Suh and the LB'ers Anyhow, I'm sure there are negatives you're concentrating on just like there are fans of other teams focusing on the negatives of the players their teams drafted...including the guys you wanted... lol
They hired Paul DePodesta to implement a moneyball approach in the NFL. One area where that should prove useful is to more accurately gauge the value of different picks (better analytics on historical performance of different picks should do that), so it makes sense that they'd make better-than-average trades with their picks. However.. no moneyball approach is going to significantly reduce the uncertainty inherent in predicting which players will succeed and which will not (too much that's unquantifiable). So while Cleveland probably got the upper hand in their trades, I wouldn't necessarily expect them to come out with higher quality players than the average for that pick. Regardless.. if you can gain an advantage just in acquiring better picks, that's an advantage others don't have.
Probably a general lack of job security. You are deferring picks, which someone who needs wins now won't do. A playoff team will want to keep that momentum and not sacrifice a year of premium picks to load up down the line. A non-playoff team the fans expect a GM to get turned around and competing in a hurry. Generally, it is the bottom barrel teams that do the loading up, but until recently it didn't seem to happen because the cost was so high.
I never said I thought we were stacked or have no weaknesses. We have a playoff caliber team that needs depth and competition. I disagree that any player is guaranteed to be a difference making starter from day one. Looks to me like they had a plan and executed it. Good enough for me at this point. The picks made address the biggest holes, on paper they fit in the scheme so...
Harris does not "fill a huge hole" and he has many flaws. It's been confirmed we had multiple trade down offers on the table, yes we can't know for sure what was offered but I am willing to bet it was at least similar to what Atlanta gave Seattle for the 26th pick. We should have traded down. I agree with your assessments of the day 2 picks I liked all of them and also Asiata on day three. However about Davon don't be ridiculous the guy is not a space eater he got regularly pushed around and out of the whole by college competition and is not very strong or big at all what do you think the pros are going to do to him? I believe he will be lucky to make the team. If you wanted a true space eater we should have drafted Stevie Tuikolovatu who was on the board and who the bucs later traded with us to get him. Vincent Taylor I like a little more with his athletic ability but he is still very raw and there were beter options on the board. Last pick makes no sense either we don't need more wide recievers and the guy doesnt even play special teams Jon Toth was still on the board there so was eric wilson the fastest linebacker in the draft and a special teams deamon. It was confirmed that we had 2 offers to trade down from 22. And who know what those offers were. Worrying about them without knowing the details is just irrational to me. I'm not sure what you're watching of Davon, but space eater is a perfect description of him. He's not the quickest and he's not the strongest, but when he anchors down, he ain't moving and he doesn't get pushed around when one on one and rarely when it's 2 on 1. Here's a video of him against Auburn. I think Landry will be gone after next year. I hope I'm wrong, but I think he's asking for too much money.
You don't think pass rush is a huge hole? Aside from Wake ... who? Branch and Hayes are solid, but are not pass rush guys. They are not planting Brady in the ground and harrying him constantly. There is no reason to complain about rounds 6-7 really.
Again, Davon is not a space eater and he is not particularly good against the run. He is also not particularly good rushing the passer either. He is not strong, he is not very big, and he is definitely not fast or athletic. He is pretty average or below in everything he does. That auburn offensive line is not particularly good and he pretty much did nothing the whole game except for one play where the quarterback basically fell into his lap. Watch his game against Wisconsin who has a better offensive line and he was pretty much neutralized the whole game. His game tape shows me nothing special at all and his testing numbers at the combine and pro day were bad to mediocre. If you want to see a real space eater and run stuffer who can control the line of scrimmage look at some Stevie Tuikolovatu tape who I think we should have picked instead. Even Jarrad Jones on his worst day is ten times better than Davon. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
I like Tui...however, Devon is a space eater...lol...I feel funny typing that repeatedly. He doesn't rush the passer nor does he get off of his blocks exceptionally well, but he EATS UP SPACE. And he often requires a double team. Here's the Wisconsin game: Again, he's not the fastest or the strongest, but he is not being pushed around and when he anchors he's not moving.
Anyone ever think that we are converting to a 3-4 / 4-3 hybrid. Think about it for a second the new DC use to be apart of the Bengals organization, they run a 3-4 / 4-3 hybrid scheme. So imagine Davon as a base end in a scheme such as this with Harris as almost like an outside linebacker. I think that was the "tweaking" they said that they would do in order for certain guys that aren't prototype DE's to fit into the system.
Yessir, everything I've read on Godchaux and Taylor is that their 1-gap pass-rushing defensive tackles. You are probably right. I don't think both of them make the roster, I think one does, and will be inserted in between Jordan Phillips and Charles Harris/Cam Wake (whichever side is opposite of Suh) on passing situations. I think that's why we didn't draft a super-athlete at LB and instead drafted an LB that's good against the run. We want to get teams behind schedule early on first downs and then just rush the passer. This leaves you open to screens and quick passes so if that is their strategy I'm wondering how they are going to counter that. But my speculation is they want to force the QB into throwing interceptions or sack fumbles. I can't find any tape on Vincent Taylor but he had 7 sacks last year which is kind of awesome as an interior DL. Godchaux I can't get a bead on, sometimes he looks like he's just slowly struggling through trash but there are some reps where he is really quick off the LOS. I think they probably want the second version of Godchaux. But those two will be directly competing with each other.
If they did, which I don't think they are, I would think Davon would potentially be the NT and Suh and Phillips at DE.
Gavon isn't a passrushing DT, I have no idea where that idea is coming from, I watched his tape, he's a space eater, and drew X2 quite a bit, and a pro strength & conditioning program will do wonders for this kid imo.
There were several better DTs on the board. This guy is probably not even going to make the team. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Yeah he is not at all a pass rusher and even as a space eater he is not very good. There were much better DTs on the board. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Reshad Jones is a 5th rounder. And Ajayi. And nolan Carroll, mike gillislee etc Look if the poster had someone rated much higher he can certainly take issue with the pick even if in the 5th round. Rounds 5-7 shouldn't be exempt from analysis and criticism
Yeah, sure thing. 5th round is great and is full of flawless players, and your handful of players proves that. Also, forget if a poster ****s on every single pick, doesn't matter cause the 5th round ios the superstar round. Thanks for setting me straight.
Doesnt matter. If you have Ajayi sitting there and the regime picks a certain UdFa you don't use the "oh it's a fifth round" crutch. There are good players to be had in the 5th.
I didn't **** on every single pick. I praised the McMillan, Tankersely, and Asiata picks. It was the harris pick and picks 5 through 7 that I had issues with. I am not like you that blindy cheerleads everything they do. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
