Love the potential of the picks, but are we better against the run from a year ago?

Slightly. Raekwon McMillan excels vs. the run. Pass protection is his weakness. Timmons certainly helps. We have a nice rotation at DT, and we could find run support via packages. We have gotten better as a whole.

Reshad being healthy will make us better. I would like to reserve judgement on the picks until they hit the field, but we didn't get worse. That might have been impossible but at least the picks have the potential of helping, not like they drafted WR or RB for instance. Been some pretty good LBs coming out of Ohio since Urban got there.

    So yeah, better.

I think we're better. Timmons and the DE we traded for are good run stoppers,,,and RJ being back.

Regardless of the picks the last two days, Jones alone makes us better against the run. If the others can come in and contribute, then hell yes we are better. Jones has made our terrible LBs look decent for a while now. With him out, it really exposed it.

Timmons, Kiko, raekwon, and the 20 snaps we get out of misi, are much better than Kiko, Paysinger, and Hewitt.

I hope not given our track record in the 5th. Reshad Jones, Jay Ajayi, Tony Lippett.

We're more consistent in the 5th than we are in the 3rd or 4th round.

We have 3 legit talent NFL linebackers. Last year we had 1. That should help

William Hayes at DE also helps. With he, Jones back, Raekwon, we should be somewhat better. Hopefully, something clicks with Jordan Phillips, as well.

Don't know. We haven't played a game yet.

Look, the draft is exciting. We're jockeying for player that we THINK are going to be great additions to the team but let's be honest, drafting players is a craps shoot. The number seven has the most combinations on a set of dice so theoretically you have a greater chance of rolling a 7 than you do any other number...but there are indeed OTHER numbers that can be rolled.

Same concept on the draft. You do your research, you look at a player's strengths and weaknesses, you look at your system (if you have half a brain) to determine if that player fits your scheme, place your bet and roll the dice.

Will you roll a seven or will you roll craps? You don't know until the season starts so to ask if we are better against the run now than we were last year is a bit premature to ask.

Honest opinion is a question too. Do you think with these defensive additions we would be as bad or worse? I don't I think we just took a large step forward. Not a giant step but a good sized step.

if the d can get to the middle of the road in terms of just being average against the run and gettin off the field and the o can get a little better execution? i expect great things.

I think we have potential to be better but we know nothing of the defense adjustments a new coordinator will bring. We also have to factor in a tougher schedule than last year at least on paper and we may actually be about the same with better talent!

All I know is we Have to prevent the 7 yard passes and 6 yard runs!! Burn us deep and I can live with it but constant dink and dunk drives flip me out!!!

On paper yes. There are so many factors though, some that are not immediately intuitive. Like for instance the ability of our offense to sustain long, defense-resting drives. Ideally, with some OL tinkering, a full year of an improved THill, improved Parker, etc ... it's a better offense.

On the other hand, if THill regresses, Parker gets hurt and nobody steps in and the OL is a disaster, our offense might suck and force all the pressure onto a defense not ready to handle it.

Not as simple as just adding a planet theory space eater.

I think we have gotten slighty better, alot of Fins fans tried to blame the bad d-line play on Vance Joesph but no it was just bad depth. I think this team is more equipped to be better due to the moves of Hayes and the pick of McMillen, and getting Reshad jones back doesn't hurt.

When you make the playoffs with the 30th defense, then add Lawrence Timmons, get Rashad jones back, and add a first and second and third round draft pick to the defense there is no way we go anywhere but up.

Our offense will be better just by virtue of it being less predictable then it was pre-Gase/Ajayi breakout. Teams now know we have a serious run threat on the field and they can't just line up to tee off on Thill.

As for the defense...we got a lot better. First of all, just getting back a lot of players from injury will help significantly. Our full strength team kicked the **** out of the same Steeler team that stomped the severely injured us in the playoffs. Between Reshad and X being healthy our secondary is already miles better than what we played most of last season with. We significantly improved our run defense with Timmons and Hayes. And none of this factors in our draft picks.
