What would be your perfect 2017 draft? Post yours, mine is below: Continuous trade downs to turn the original 7 picks into a total of 15 picks, getting at least 5 starters out of the 15, probably more. Great football players all around. Rule settings were CBS Board, Difficult algorithm, NFL Mock Team needs. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
I like it. I typically don't accept or initiate trades because I don't want to get my hopes up even further, but here goes: *I could of had Davis at 36, but I took Zach..I'm not sure which guy I like better, but I've watched Zach more..so.
22: R1P22 EDGE TAKKARIST MCKINLEY UCLA 54: R2P22 S DESMOND KING IOWA 97: R3P33 G ISAAC ASIATA UTAH 166: R5P22 CB BRIAN ALLEN UTAH 178: R5P34 LB DYLAN COLE MISSOURI STATE 184: R5P40 DL STEVIE TU'IKOLOVATU USC 223: R7P5 G AVIANTE COLLINS TCU not my perfect draft but went away from Lamp @ 22
Not sure about Takk in the 1st rd. He is a great athlete but is still too raw and unpolished, not many pash rush moves, is undersized, and not great against the run. I would select Jordan Willis before takk. Jordan is bigger and stronger, just as good an athlete, has more varied pass rush moves, is a lot better against the run than Takk, and has also had better and more consistent production. I keep hearing things about Takk's shoulder not healing as well. DO NOT want anyone with injury issues. We have taken a lot of those guys recently, need solid and reliable.
Loving the guys on this post sniffing out Willis! I think he is really underrated. I'll tell you what, he's better than Taco too!
Here is my attempt, though I only went 3 rounds because I wasn't sure about the later picks. Haven't done my homework on them. 22: R1P22 G FORREST LAMP WESTERN KENTUCKY I was absolutely ecstatic to grab him. He's the player I want most for us. There is no position we need more in my opinion. Immediate starter at LG that can play center and even one of the tackle positions if we need him to. 54: R2P22 LB RAEKWON MCMILLAN OHIO STATE Another absolute need. Inside or out, he's an immediate starter and we need LB's that cover in the short passing game or a true MLB. 97: R3P33 CB AHKELLO WITHERSPOON COLORADO Not completely thrilled with this pick, but I wanted a cornerback or Edge rusher and he was the best pick available. This is how I would draft if I was the GM of the Phins, and put myself into their mindset to draft honestly. But this is what I would do if I was allowed to draft who I wanted to, ignoring that approach. 22: R1P22 QB PATRICK MAHOMES II TEXAS TECH I freely admit I have a mancrush on this guy. I'm not a Tannehill hater, I think him and Gase will do fine, but he's no Marino and I want the next one. (PM is more like Brett Farve 2.0) He'll have to sit a year, but when he takes the field--watch out. 54: R2P22 CB CHIDOBE AWUZIE COLORADO I wanted a guard with this pick though we need defense, but do not want to waste a year of Ajayi's career. A guard that could play center will make our offense a juggernaut to be feared. I would have taken ASIATA with this pick in a heartbeat but Awuzie fell to me and I had to pull the trigger. 97: R3P33 G ISAAC ASIATA UTAH I got lucky here. The guy I wanted fell to me in the third round though I would have traded up to grab him in the second if I could. I'm confident with this draft in round 5 I could find sleepers at CB and Safety for the defense, with Edge rusher waiting till next year.
YOUR PICKS 1: R1P22 G FORREST LAMP WESTERN KENTUCKY 2: R2P22 TE ADAM SHAHEEN ASHLAND 3: R3P33 S DESMOND KING IOWA 4: R5P22 EDGE TANOH KPASSAGNON VILLANOVA 5: R5P34 EDGE JOE MATHIS WASHINGTON 6: R5P40 OT SAM TEVI UTAH 7: R7P5 LB ELIJAH LEE KANSAS STATE
Maybe the greatest draft in NFL history. (CBS board, NFL mock) 22: R1P22 LB ZACH CUNNINGHAM VANDERBILT 54: R2P22 EDGE JORDAN WILLIS KANSAS STATE 97: R3P33 C PAT ELFLEIN OHIO STATE 166: R5P22 S TEDRIC THOMPSON COLORADO 178: R5P34 TE JEREMY SPRINKLE ARKANSAS 184: R5P40 C CAMERON TOM SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI 223: R7P5 CB CHANNING STRIBLING MICHIGAN
My perfect draft is hoping Reuben foster slips to us or just shore up the o-line with Forrest lamp in the first round, then go defense every pick for the rest of the draft.
Nyet on Reuben foster. Don't want anything to do with him even without the drug test and attitude issues I think his play is very overrated. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
I like it except for your last two picks and the fact you never traded down for more picks. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Didn't have trades active. And after the first 5 picks, you could just give away the last two picks for nothing and still win greatest draft ever.
I think a 1st round G is a bad business plan, can't forget this is a business with a salary cap, James and Tunsil are recent 1st round picks, how much money and high picks can you afford on your Oline? I have nothing against Lamp, but this is just too much resources spent on Oline, and we aren't going anywhere if we can't get quality G's after the 1st. Also the heavy lack on D is weighing down on this scale, G isn't the last piece, we have much to do on D.
Agree our defense needs a major infusion of talent, but I keep thinking this: Ajayi is running on no cartilage in his knees. he won't be around long so get the most out of him. He did almost nothing when Pouncey was out, so draft a guard who can spell Pouncey. Pouncey is great when he's in, but kills us when he isn't.
Totally fair points, and I do get it, I mean I was on board earlier on, but James will be up for a contract, then Tunsil, and then will we be able to pay another 1st round talent a huge contract on the Oline? It's tempting with Jayjay and our lack there since the Marting/Incog incident, and I wouldn't hate the pick, but with a D that can't stop anyone it really doesn't matter, we have to start making teams earn their points or we're just spinning our wheels.
Tunsil is the only one who will demand high dollar and that's 3yrs away. Pouncey is already getting paid high dollar, but he's worth it when healthy. Lamp adds protection for when he isn't. I think we can grab LB, G, and an impact defender with our first three rounds in this draft if we are smart, though that may depend on how the QB's fall.
Are you assuming that Lamp can play C? He was a LT, so we have no idea if he can play C, there is a strange talent to that, and some have it and some don't. James is going to get paid, he won't make Lane Johnson money, but he'll get paid 6-7 mil, Tunsil may be getting a top contract, 14-15 mil by the time he's up, and if Lamp becomes a great G, he'll be pulling in 10 mil. These contracts are going to start falling like dominos, this is James last year, so he'll get paid next year, 2 years after that Tunsil, and the following year Lamp, and all of a sudden you have a lot of resources tied up on the Oline. Most starting G's in the league are acquired in rounds 2-4, we have to be able to do that as well, we don't need stars at G, we just need decent. If there isn't a DL or LB there at 22, there will be a CB, and I'd take the CB over Lamp, but like I said, I do like Lamp and wouldn't hate the pick, but I don't think it's a good business plan at the moment.
I don't agree at all with the CB over Lamp suggestion. We don't have a real need for a starting CB and we already invested a 2nd rounder on X Howard last year. Lamp would be one of the BPAs at 22 and fills a more pressing need. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
We can agree to disagree, the CB play was less than stellar last year to say the least, X and Max were sketchy and they are easily the best CBs, I hope X gets better but don't expect Max to get any better, he needs to be replaced, and we need depth. With the state of our D, and the passing league it is now, I'd say that CB is more of a need than G in the 1st round.
Maxwell was actually one of the better cornerbacks in the league towards the end of last season. I think he ended up ranked in the top 15. He struggled early but once he got a hold of the system he was great. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Maxwell definitely got better as the season progressed, but he was hurt the last few games of the season and didn't play.
Used the CBS big board with Fanspeak needs, went BPA at position of need: 22: R1P22 TE DAVID NJOKU MIAMI (FLA.) 54: R2P22 S MARCUS SANDERS-WILLIAMS UTAH 97: R3P33 EDGE DEREK RIVERS YOUNGSTOWN STATE 166: R5P22 CB RASUL DOUGLAS WEST VIRGINIA 178: R5P34 C CAMERON TOM SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI 184: R5P40 LB CONNOR HARRIS LINDENWOOD 223: R7P5 G COLLIN BUCHANAN MIAMI (OHIO)
I see this a lot, but how did they do last year with no Romo and no Dak? How valuable were they to that 4-12 team.
