He got a one year deal with upwards of 4.65 million. MIami could have done this deal and solidified a major need. Boo on the front office for this screw up IMHO it's a one year guaranteed under 4 million.

We couldn't come up with 4.65 million for one year? Seriously? The guy made the pro bowl last year. This is freaking unbelievable, we would have had 3 proven 100+ tackle linebackers starting. Brown would have been our best coverage lb and would have helped us stop tight ends from terrorizing us over the middle.

Now we have to go into the draft with another major need that could have been taken care of.

Oh and I forgot we could have paid a lot less due to taxes. So that even more embarrassing to me. It was well worth the risk for a one year look and than resign or release. Once again we outthink ourselves

I remember reading that Miami and Zach Brown were not close on money, which is fine because that sort of thing happens all the time during negotiations, and I have no issue with our team taking a stance and not overpaying what they feel a player is worth. However, I would not class 4.65 million as overpaid for a player of Zach Brown's quality. I would say that is market value. So considering the figure he has just signed for, what figure did our front office have in mind? If we tried to low ball the guy then that takes away from some of the good work our front office have done this off season. It's not like we are cap strapped. By no means is Zach Brown elite, but he is good enough to have been an immediate starter and contributor on our defense, and at that price he was good value.

I'll withhold judgment for now because we have no idea what the Dolphins were offering. And considering the fact that both the Bills and Raiders couldn't get something done shows me that there was something else going on. Maybe the Dolphins and those other teams were offering that $4+ mil but Zach thought he could get more? And once he figured out he couldn't he just took the next offer he got? He also fired his agent for a reason. I think there's something more to this than just the Dolphins, Raiders, and Bills not ponying up average money for an above average LB'er.

Look, 4.65m for one year is a very low risk deal. It would not have hurt us to give it a try, you can bet brown was going to play his but off to try and prove last year's pro bowl season wasn't a fluke. The only concerns I read about is teams didn't like his attitude or personality, we don't need everybody to be a leader and model person, the guy is a baller and has been for most of his carreer. That's all we needed and if it didn't work out at worst we are out 4.65m for one year. With dion jordan getting cut and misi taking the pay cut we had more than enough money.

This was a very big missed opportunity to fill a need on the cheap when we have so many needs that still need to be addressed.

Between this and overpaying for andre branch and kiko I don't know which is worse. We have not signed a single impact player in FA that would make us significantly better than last year. We now go into the draft with significant needs at 8 different positions. There is no way we are going to fill all of them through the draft and at this point there are no quality free agents available.

Next year is looking like we will be lucky to break .500

Gase and the FO are obviously implementing a rebuilding plan and not looking to seriously compete for a SB until 3 or 4 years from now.

Maybe he didn't want to play for Oakland or Miami, If it was Jeff Ireland still running this team then yeah it is a major screw up. It's not like Oakland is a bad place to play anymore either.
