His poor play before last year is being greatly exaggerated. He has actually been pretty good for most of his carreer, it was only in 2015 that his play was subpar but I think it was mostly due to it being his first year back from a torn pectoral muscle that caused him to miss all of 2014. Brown had 93 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 3 interceptions his rookie year, those are very good numbers. His second year he had 91 tackles, 4 sacks and 1 int. Also very good. His 3rd year he tore his pec at the beginning of the season and missed the entire season. His 4th year was his worst year when he only had 77 tackles, .5 sack, and 1 int. However as I said this was his first year back from a major injury. He then got signed as a free agent by the bills prior to last season and had a pro bowl season with 149 tackles, 4 sacks and 1 int. His career progression shows me he has been consistently good except for when he got injured and is now hitting his peak. I would sign him in a heartbeat for 5 or 6 million which is what is being reported. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
But nobody is buying. I dont have access to game films but this interesting. It's not like every front Office is stupid. I have to say I was not impressed by his play in the two games we played them this season but i dont want to hand out negative judgement if I dont have an idea. From what you say he should be worth 9 per year but he doesnt have a market at 5, that's a big gap Inviato dal mio iPhone utilizzando Tapatalk
Only knock I have heard of is that teams don't like his attitude, whatever that means. Watching film on him it seems he sometimes has bad gap discipline and also seems like he is not going 100% on every play. But nothing major is wrong with his game from what I can see. His numbers speak for themselves, the guy is good. He is more talented and more productive than anybody we have on the team and at 6m per year I think he is a bargain. Last year Timmons had 115 tackles, 2INT, and 3 sacks. And you called him below average. Yet you called 91, 4, and 1 "very good"... lol
The f is wrong with you? I never said Timmons was below average. I have said he is a positive addition but is past his prime and on the decline. Essentially a one maybe two year stopgap solution. Quit trying to nitpick everything I say or don't say. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
For 5 mil I would be willing to take a chance on him as well. I was assuming he wanted much more. And I would still assume that considering how teams are not offering him. Either that or he wants a 7 year 35 mil deal lol
According to Brown's friend, Jamar Womble, it is down to the Raiders and the Phins with the Raiders the slight favorite. Not definite, but he states the Bills are no longer in serious competition.
Well this is dragging on... beginning to wonder if the teams are now thinking of waiting until after the draft if Zach isn't will to budge. Although, there was an announcement from the Colts today that they have cut a DT. So some are wondering if that's a move to clear cap space.
And there we go.... Per Armando: "The surest sign the Miami Dolphins have moved out of free agency intensive mode and into draft mode can be seen around the team’s building Friday. Dolphins executive vice president Mike Tannenbaum? He’s not at team headquarters in Davie, Florida. General manager Chris Grier? He’s not at the training facility in Davie. Head coach Adam Gase? He’s not there, either. No wonder the Dolphins aren’t bringing in back-end free agents for visits and haven’t done so the past few days. The club’s braintrust would not even be around to meet and greet. And where that braintrust is Friday tells you where the club’s mindset is as well. Tannebaum and Grier are at the University of Michigan Pro Day in Ann Arbor, Michigan today. Grier was at the Ohio State Pro Day in Columbus on Thursday and the Dolphins were also represented at the Notre Dame pro day. Gase is not at the pro days. He’s already in Arizona in advance of the NFL annual meeting that begins Sunday in Phoenix. The point is while Dolphins fans and other observers might be studying free agency lists to see who gets signed next, or wondering the status of linebacker Zach Brown or defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, the Dolphins are more crisply focused on their college scouting and draft plans. The offseason has indeed progressed to focusing mostly on the draft."
intriguing that is down to Oakland and Miami. Brown and Hankins, at a decent deal, could really narrow the focus in the draft
Miami needs to come up 1 million if offer is true do a three year deal. If the weather and no state tax don't do it for him than walk away
The no state tax thing is blown out of proportion, because utilities are very expensive in Fla, especially big houses with grass and landscaping. You can spend thousands a year just on yard trash, which is mind blowing for someone coming from a place where it's not only free, but once a year you are supplied with yard trash bags at no cost, and water/sewage bills are crazy.
Any updates here? I can't find anything online and Galant's comment makes me think that we've given up even trying.
Honestly I would rather have Brown than hankins. Brown is a rare talent. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Brown is still deciding between raiders and dolphins. Supposedly raiders have the slight edge, if the dolphins would just pony up another million per he'd be a dolphin by now. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
I have a feeling this is going to drag out at least 2 more weeks. He probably signs a week or two before the draft. Because after the draft his price tag drops in half....at least
This is definitely a thought worth considering... (from Tyler Olsen at FanSided) "The fact that Brown is holding out is a red flag. Does head coach Adam Gase truly want a player on the team that’s worried about getting paid more than joining an organization to win a championship? And is Brown really worth what he thinks he’s worth? Prior to last year he never started a full 16 game schedule and never had more than 100 tackles in a season. Otherwise best season came his rookie year when he had 93 tackles, 5.5 sacks and three interceptions. NFL players are due what they deserve. But fans want players on their team that’s about the team, not the contract. That’s where the fine line meets the professional business of what is the NFL."
His speed and coverage ability for a linebacker of his size is what sets him appart from most guys. He has WR or DB speed in a linebackers body. He is also very good against the run. A complete linebacker. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
a jack of all trades, master of none... looking for a big contract. But beyond the inflated tackle numbers..." The tape don't lie ". Since Brown left Miami without signing...They've moved on, extending Alonso and restructuring Misi... Maybe it's time we move on as well. Timmons and Alonso were just paid to start. The Misi restructure I don't factor nearly as much.. Because we are happy to have him back for barely more than the price it would cost to release him. That was a bonus. So I expect us to move on, draft a LB , and even kick the tires on DeAndre Levy.
Brown outplayed both Kiko and Timmons last year by a significant margin. If we are willing to pay kiko 7.2m per and timmons 6m per I don't see why brown doesn't deserve 5 or 6 million per year. He is not really asking for much as I see it. And your jack of all trades tag is unfair, what exactly is kiko a master of? Having a guy who can do it all is a plus, not a minus. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Well now if the Raiders move to Nevada this year the argument is moot. The state tax thing is real but a little overblown. You have to pay taxes to the state you work in. So half the games in Florida will not have tax. But the other 8 may, if they collect tax. There is a benefit but it's smaller than people calculate.
The no income tax thing is real, but not necessarily a positive thing depending on your income level. I mean.. states with no income tax just have other means of getting revenue. Generally though.. the no income tax thing is beneficial for those in the highest income brackets so it certainly could be a factor to consider for an NFL player.
Very good against the run??? Why the hell would Miami sign him, they hate LB's that are good against the run, look at what they just gave a guy that can't tackle, can't play the run and has no idea what coverage means....I'm talking about Kiko....just in case there are some that are new Dolphin Fans.... We should cut Misi, has even played a game the last 2 years????
Joe Schad reporting that some teams have been turned off by Brown's personality. I'm betting the FO only wants him on a one-year deal to see if he buys into the cultural facelift they're trying to complete, and being that Brown still hasn't signed with anybody yet, I'm sure he still feels like he isn't being offered as much as he thinks he should be. At this point it's going to be, which team doesn't make it out of the draft with a linebacker? Because that team, be it between the Dolphins or Raiders or someone else, will most likely be the team that signs him. And it most likely won't be for more than one year. This is the human element to football that isn't considered in stats, Madden, and PFF ratings. He may be a good individual player, but is he good for team chemistry? Will he be a fit in the culture? Teams want to find out, but not at a rate that is going to punish them capwise.
LOL, jets fan, nope just stating facts, I see, you don't like the facts so you throw out name calling.... You should rename yourself... My first Jersey was a Larry Csonka jersey, you're probably too young to remember those days, but I'm not. You see that's why I know what I'm talking about, and you just name call....I remember a time where the Dolphins were great, not just trying to fill holes with sub par players....
Making tackles 9 yards down field, oh yea, lol that's the same as Chowder and Wheels...Case Closed Kiko was out of position almost every pass play, you see I watch the games, now we have clear evidence you never watch on Sundays, what team are you watching, someone else in the AFC East I would imagine.... Misi missed 13 games last year, are you sure you aren't the "Guy" giving out these ridiculous contracts only here to defend yourself.... As I stated earlier, you are too young to remember what Dolphin greatness looks like, go back and watch films, them get back too me about great LB play...
Well all I have to say in this "spirited" discussion is that I am not a big fan of Misi's. To me, he's just a guy. Not bad and not great. Just a guy.
I agree. He's just an average LB'er, but he's decent against the run. However, his injuries have been exaggerated by a lot of people.
Unfortunately not gonna happen: @RapSheet Source: The #Redskins have agreed to terms with FA LB Zach Brown, pending a physical.
Dissapointed. Interesting to see what they gave him. We could have been set at LB. It's going to be difficult to find a guy who can cover as well as Zbrown. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
When I saw Zach Brown was going to visit the Redskins I knew he was going to sign there. The Redskins never let free agents leave. Money talks
Well in a strange way this makes me feel good. If any team has a knack for findibg overpriced FAs whose performance is about to fall off a cliff, it is Washington.
