I know our September home/away schedule is very favorable. Something like 7 away games the last month and 18 home.

Still here, having a blast, its a bit chilly, the lake is warmer than the air, but it will warm up tomorrow. Been swimming, biking, fishing and Kayaking with the family.

The Lake is a s full as I have ever seen, my dock is a foot under water. They say it has rained three weeks straight.

Charlie Manuel is doing everything in his power to give away the NL East...there is not a dumber manager in baseball than Charlie. The Phillies pissed away another 3-1 Cole Hamels lead.....then Charlie puts So Taguchi in for defensive purposes once again, and the Dodgers come back to win it. I think the Phillies are going to be swept by the Dodgers. I kind of hope the Marlins and Mets get past the Phillies, so maybe they will fire C. Manuel. This doofus doesn't know the basic fundamentals about baseball. Football can't get here soon enough for me.

Believe me we feel your pain and frustrations!. Seems like none of us want to take this division with so many mistakes and blowups along the way. Just has not been a good feeling all year watching the Mets and I think you feel the same about your team. Football cannot get here quick enough for me either.:hi5:

Well we have 2 more with Washington and follow with 3 in Pitt. Anything less then 5-1 over those 6 and Ill be disappointed. Thats 2 of the worst teams in the league and a golden opportunity.... :)

That's the thing about baseball. Your team can look can great for about a week and then look like total crap the next. When they start winning you think it is finally going to be your year, and then it all falls apart. I don't think any team will pull away with the NL East and wouldn't be surprised if it was still a close race in September. Every time a team gets a 2-3 game lead they always come back to the pack. At least I know my Phins won't tease me this year.....my expectations are pretty low and I just want us to win more the ONE game.

Sometimes it is the cupcakes teams that ruin it for you. I remember the Phillies could have gotten the wild card a couple years ago, when they played their final series in Washington and fell apart. Gary Maddox (who was with the Cubs) had to beat Houston for the Phillies to get the wild card, and Maddox lost the game. Teams with nothing to lose play a lot looser, and it always comes back to bite you when you think you have some gimmes.

Well we are piling it on the Nats tonight, 10-0 in the 3rd.:knucks: I want to see Maine go at least 7 full tonight with this lead, hopefully 8. But he does have 52 pitches through 3 full, so lets get some 8-12 pitch innings and coast along here...

    God bergmann looked awful tonight....

The Phillies had one of their worst losses of the year tonight.

They blew a 6-1 lead to the Dodgers and Nomar hit a walk off after it was 6-6. The bullpen blew it two straight nights. JRoll is also calling Philly fans a bunch of front runners. I think it is time to send Rollins and Howard packing. They think they get a free pass because of their MVP's....but they are playing like crap. Rollins with another 0-5 night. Charlie Manuel is just as much as fault. I really don't feel the Phillies are playing with any desire or effort. I think this year will be a loss cause....you see how teams like the Cubs and LA Angels are playing, and they are just clicking.

Nice 12-0 win for the Mets. Nobody is happy being in 1st place for more than a week or two. :tongue2:

Like Ive been saying, the Philthies have no pitching. And theres a lot worse things I could say about Philly fans then calling them front runners. To be front runners you have to win a title and the last time the Phillies won one was in the pre Boik era.

If they feel like trading Ryan Howard I have no problem with him going to the Yanks or anywhere in the AL. Get him out of the division.
As for Rollins...how does he feel about 2B? And before anyone asks, the answer is yes, id take him in a heartbeat.

The Phils have some pretty decent prospects so it would not be the end of the world to move Rollins or Howard. I know Howard wants a huge contract in the area of $150 million, but the Phils own his rights through 2012, and can basically rent him out year by year until then, when I believe he becomes an unrestricted FA.
I think Pat Burrell is probably the one guy who might be moved. The Phillies starting pitching isn't that great, but I would take their relievers over the Mets any day. There still is 1/4 of the season left so alot can happen. Philly fans are the best, cuz we care more than anyone else.
Hey Boik, how can someone root for the Phins and also the Mets? (the Mets fans are mainly Jet's fans...makes me ill). :tongue2:

Well I should clarify that I think the Phils starters suck, not necessarily the pen. As a matter of fact if we fused the mets starters with the phils relievers we'd have a staff.

Mets fans are usually Jet fans which I guess makes me special since I wasnt silly enough to fall in to that trap :knucks:

As far as Howard and Burrell, I know I was considering Burrell as a potential Delgado replacement during the 1st half of the year. That need is gone. Id pick up Delgado's option at this point.

So, uh, Im gonna eat some crow on this but what is the most you guys would resign Ollie Perez for? The least you can give him is arbitration (so we'd get 2 1st's). The most you can give him is...?

    Stuff to keep in mind:
Pedro comes off the books also and Niese/Parnell/low tier FA will likely compete for that spot.
Ollie is 7-2 with an era barely over 3 vs teams over 500. Hes also 3-6 6+ era vs teams under 500.
Hes turns 28 today. Hes also a LHP that throws 94 and has looked great since Warthen took over and allowed him to pitch where he feels comfortable, not from a particular side of the mound.

I guess at this point Id have to consider something in the range of 5/65 to 5/70. If Gil Meche is worth 11 mil per Perez is probably going to get 13-14. If hes going to pitch like he has the last 8 or 9 starts it may as well be us.

Manuel sure has been making some odd decisions with Wagner out. How can you come back to Heilman to save the game tonight??? I mean it worked out but he left himself open to a HUGE second guess. Also..is there anyway we can find a late defensive replacement at 1B for late in the game?? Delgado has been scary with the glove lately

Lately? Delgado's always been scary with the glove even when he was younger.

As far as the Heilman thing...I guess he believes in redemption?

giving ollie 13mil+ a year? im not so sure on that. i like that you bring up his 7-2 3era vs. .500 clubs, but for that kind of money 3-6 6era isnt gonna warrant it. way too inconsistent. maybe i could stomach if we signed him for around 8mil a year... and not for more than 3 years.

and of course he would walk away from the table w/ an offer like that.

2 things working against you on that approach:
    1. Boras is his agent
    2. Last 9 starts hes sporting about a 3 era overall and that coincides with petersons departure. :wink2:

of course me saying 8 mil a year for ollie is just a suggestion based on his history... and of course he is gonna be getting a lot more than that.

i also didnt realize that hes had a pretty damn good month of july, and hes not too bad this month so far. but is he really behind those crappy numbers he put up in the 1st half?

    his numbers via game log

Ollie is going to get a minimum of 13 mil a year. Think about it, he made very good money this year through arbitration. Now factor in the Boras negotiation factor, and the fact that he is a 28 year old lefty, and the money will be there. I feel that we have to resign him. We have Johan, maine, and pelfrey in our starting rotation next year. Niese wasn't given the chance this year, and I don't think he will be on our opening day roster. There are some good free agents available, and we know minaya loves pitching, so maybe he makes a run at a Sabathia/Sheets type.

Welcome back. Im typing a response to your PM as we speak.

As far as Ollie though one thing you dont have to worry about as much is his durability. Would you want to give a long term contract to a guy who cant stay healthy like sheets? What about a guy whos logging 230 innings each of the last 2 years and which Sabathia will hit this year. While Im not suggesting ollie is a better pitcher then CC, Id be nuts, Im saying hes capable of pitching comparable to him and may have less long term arm issues. Remember CC will be looking for Johan money and he will probably get close. Id rather have Sabathia over sheets even though I like sheets more as a pitcher (less questions health wise), but it will probably break down something like:
    CC gets 7yrs/126m (18 per)
Sheets gets 5/75-6/90 (15 per....though I wouldnt be shocked if sheets had to take a shorter term contract with more money per maybe 3/51)
    Ollie gets 5/65 (13 per)

I definitely believe Ollies control issues are behind him. While I wouldnt be surprised if we saw an occasional relapse I think the Oliver Perez that the Pads and Bucs were so high on has finally arrived. hes actually got me convinced that he may actually continue to get better throughout that contract while those other two regress towards the back end of their primes.

    Also of note:
Wagner not coming off the DL monday.
Good to see Pedro pitch another gem tonight....we know hes above AAA now that he can beat the pirates and have 2 outings vs them and give up only 1 run in each. Though the pen tried to snuff him again like they did monday.

I saw this and was disappointed. Another week or two of being scared in a 1 or 2 run game. I actually got nervous last night when they gave up 3 in the bottom of the 9th. But they won, philly lost, and we are now 2 games up, with Johan going tonight. Gotta feel good about that.

The good news is that hes sported a good era each of the last 2 seasons. The bad news is that hes still sporting a 5.77 era this year while being overworked. I think Kunz likely goes down and Stokes is competing with Muniz and Ayala for the long relief role.

Hernandez is the guy going the other way....

Found this on Ayala: Ayala requested the trade weeks ago because he wanted a change of scenery. He said that he lost focus because of personal problems off the field, which included having a divorce and getting shot in his left arm this past offseason. He said that those were the reasons why he was testy toward the local media during the first half of the season.
