Ugh why do I come out of the Club.

It's a good deal. $7-$7.5 million is good starter money these days. It's no where near top tier or elite money.
Luke Kuechly now that is elite money(12.3 million a year and $27 million guaranteed with another $6 million option).

Kiko should excel at WLB and I look forward to seeing it. Massive improvement over Jelani.

You do understand that just looking at his tender amount next year and claiming he will only be the 38th highest paid linebacker without taking into account that he just signed an extension with guaranteed money and signing bonus is very disingenuous.

In reality he is now making 7.2m per year. 7.2million per year is the 24th highest lb salary in the league (including 3-4olb) and the 17th highest paid OLB. Last I checked there are roughly 111 starting linebackers in the NFL, being ranked 24th out 111 in salary is hardly "average" as you suggested. It is well above average and Kiko has not shown that he is an above average Linebacker to warrant this kind of contract at this time.

With his tender situation there was no need to do this now with only one year of mediocre play for us. Especially since we still have so many other holes to fill that require more money and cap space.

In this NFL free agent contracts for above average player have a tendency to look bloated. You have to factor in the "capflation" and a market that rewards every above average free agent (while average players tend to strike bad deals). The rankings come and go, if the salary cap continues to grow in three years a 7 million dollar cap figure for a starting three down LB will be surpassed by many players.

If we have to make a ranking we should make a ranking among similar players because as you all know different positions have different markets (an average QB makes 15millions/year, Jamie Collins the richest off the line LB makes 12.5). A MLB and a WLB or a SLB or a ILB are different of course but they have similar kinds of responsability (play the run, fill gaps, pursuit, similar kinds of coverage responsabilities, occasional blitzes: they are all different but either we can group some players together or we cant and we have to assess value individually). Since teams play "nickel" defenses most of the time and pretty much every kind of defense has no more than 2 linebackers off the line in "nickel" we can say there are around 60 three downs starting LB. I would not consider the edge rushers OLB as LB because they do completely different things and have completely different sets of responsability (like setting the edge and rushing the passer consistently).

By my accounts (i might be wrong counting players as off the line, I have doubts on some because they can play both) 15 off the line LB are payed 7 millions or more (and due to capflation the KJ Wright contract is bigger too because it was signed a couple of years ago). I dont know how many but there are also players who are not getting paid because they are on rookie contracts (Deion Jones, Shazier, others) and could be worth more money if they were FA now. I think he is paid as what he is, an above average every down LB. The every down part is especially crucial.

On a side note if Timmons was paid 6millions/year it was inconceivable to think that Alonso wasnt going to be paid more, especially if you consider Timmons an over the hill washed up veteran.

Deals can average 15m per year. It does not mean anything until the money is guaranteed

Admit it, you don't read other people's posts in there entirety.

Either that or you really need to freshen up on your reading comprehension.

    I don't understand?

    For example:

If I sign a contract for 4 years $40mil dollars with $20 guaranteed.

    I will get $10mil each of the 4 years that I play. That's $40mil.

If a team releases a player before paying part of that player's guaranteed salary or guaranteed bonus, the team still must pay that money. This doesn't happen very frequently, however. In most cases, the player has already received all guaranteed money by the time he's released. The remainder of the contract vanishes.

Nor can you justify the constant no one else has a clue jibberish that is in every post you make.

But that doesn't stop you, so why should someone else be held to standard you yourself cannot meet?

    ****ing nonsense.

He has no clue what's even going on.

Kiko with his new contract will be the 17th highest paid OUTSIDE LB'er. However, he's far lower when you factor in ALL LB'ers. I've tried to explain this to him, but I don't think he even reads the posts. He may give them a quick glance and then just picks up on key words that anger him and he spouts his nonsense. lol

What's nonsense is what you just wrote which makes no sense at all.

Neither you nor dan cares to reply to the fact that dan whats his face said kiko's pay is average when it is clearly not.

And that he tried to imply kiko is only the 38th highest paid linebacker by ignoring the new contract he just signed and just looking at his tendered amount for next year.

Those were my gripes whith what he wrote. My opinion is kiko hasn't really earned this type of contract right now and there was no need to do it before filling some of the other numerous holes we have on the roster.

If you don't like that opinion that's just fine. Doesn't mean I think I am better than you or anybody else we just have a difference of opinion.

You're still very lost and it's apparent you can't keep up.

Next season...NEXT SEASON...2017...Kiko will be the 58th highest paid LB'er in the league.

Next season...NEXT SEASON...2017..Kiko will be around the 38th highest paid OUTSIDE LINEBACKER in the league.

This is 100%, provably true and neither your whining nor ignorance will change this fact. You don't like that fact because, well, I'm not sure. But you keep harping over it.

    Now...

I also discussed, ad nauseam, what his OVERALL CONTRACT will be. After his extension he will average around $7mil per season.

This pay AVERAGE has him at around the 17th highest paid OUTSIDE LINEBACKER in the league and around the 25th highest paid LINEBACKER in the league.

Do you understand this? And if not can you get someone around you to explain it to you?

    It's called English.

Some people can utilize the language and others can't.

Watching you literally beat any semblance of intelligence out of the language is amazing. Every day must be painful as ****, huh?

I would have just let him play on his tender, we don't even know if he's going to work out at WLB, now if he doesn't he'll still be on the team for a min of 2 years, at 9 mil per, if we do have to let him go.

The facts are these. Misi is excellent against the run and he signed a journeyman contract. What is your obsession about the money all about? The cap is rising close to 10% per year. Vets need to get paid.
