I accept the fact that Matt Moore throws interceptions because he's aggressive, and I like his aggression sometimes..Today though, the fumbles in the Steelers' ends of the field were absolutely back-breaking momentum wise. Even if those drives ended up field goals we would have had some confidence as the game played out.

Yepppp. And it wasn't like either of those fumbles were him not seeing that there was someone after him.

Yeah the Tannehill/Moore debate should be over. Tannehill > Moore even though Moore's a great backup to have.

Going back to the no huddle was 100% pure desperation today. Disgustingly obvious.

Moore played good today while simultaneously ending any possible talks about a controversy or comepetition.

Yeah, kind of a weird game by Matt, but it's also essentially exactly who he is. He was pretty damn efficient all day...except for the 3 backbreaking turnovers. That's just what he is though.

The good news is I have complete confidence in Matt coming in if Ryan were to get hurt in the future. He's s great guy to have on your bench because he's a veteran and can make some big plays. Look at some of the other backups who had to step in over the last few years and were completely useless. We don't have that problem.

I agree. The sad part is without those three turnovers we had a legitimate chance of winning with a depleted defense that gave up 20 points in just over 1 quarter.

Seeing Moore out there the past few games really made me appreciate him, kind of in the way Pittsburgh appreciated Charlie Batch several years back.

There is no doubt who's the starter, but I hope he sticks around for a while. He's got a few years left. He's two years younger than Roethlisberger.

I don't know his contract status, but I hope he doesn't leave.

If Tannehill had the game that Moore just did, this forum would be breaking out the torches and pitchforks.

Call me crazy - but it's probably because Tannehill is the starter and he's about to be paid over $20 million a season.

Moore is the backup. One who also got his bell rung on nasty hit to the chin. His passing today WASN'T the problem - in fact he's shown he can run the offense when asked. He had his highest completion percentage since taking over ........ but those fumbles were killers. Poor ball security in cold weather when you know that ball is harder to grip.

I don't know how much that hit affected him, as he's been stellar in the pocket leading up to this game. But not seeing Harrison on that first sack fumble was bizarre.

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous. "Running the offense" also included not turning the ball over three times in a playoff game, especially in the red zone.

Moore makes a ton of money for a backup QB. He was horrible yesterday. You can't isolate the turnovers and say he played great if you take them away. Those turnovers were a huge, huge factor in the loss.

Matt's salary? That's laughable. He makes $1.75 million.

You're playing the game all the box score readers do. It's not like Matt was standing back there like a statue behind perfect protection puking up the ball. It was a combo of ****ty protection and poor blindside ball security. But he DID have a good game passing the ball. Its amazing he even continued playing after that hit.

Regardless anyone who grills Tannehill after his first playoff game if he were to go thru something similar is a booger eater.

Totally agree Rock, but the booger eaters would have been out in droves this morning...droves. All the props in the world to Matt Moore for what he did for us this season. He played better than most of us could have hoped for in some really tough spots. He was tough, confidant and more than that, a good QB. He is what most teams wish they had in a back up, and he proved that to the rest of the league with his play. Hope he decides to stay around and continue his role...even if it takes years to see his worth.

Seriously what a bizarre game. He set the team record for 14 straight completions in a playoff game and connected on 80% of his throws - which was also the highest for a losing playing team in NFL history. Yet it was marred by those fumbles and that ugly hit from Dupree.

I can't remember that last time I've seen a game like that. Usually when the turnovers are happening, QB's have an ugly day all around. Can't say enough about the guy though - just wish it could've ended on a more competitive note for him ...... a guy who has put in a lot of work and finally got to steward a team when it mattered.

Moore did everything you hope for from a backup QB in winning enough games to get us to the playoffs. No way he could carry a defective defense against better teams though. I agree it was a strange game -minus the fumbles and INT and he played well enough to give Miami a chance at victory. Those turnovers happened though and that has been part of his game for most of his career.

Yeah.. too bad it ended that way for him.

The reason Moore had those stats though is that they basically all occurred once the game was essentially out of reach (e.g. the 14 straight completions began after a Moore INT allowed Pitt to go up 30-6).

Also.. I personally wouldn't have given him 14 straight completions because the 2-point conversion attempt (a pass to Parker) was an incomplete pass. They simply don't count that although they should. So it really should be 11 straight completions but whatever..

They're still playing defense out there (pretty aggressively based on the hitting). When you complete passes at an 80% clip in a playoff game (his first ever start in one) it's a good showing - especially after only getting 3 pass attempts in the 1st quarter and the defense spotting the Steelers 20pts.

Nah, disagree here... IMO, if anything he's shown he needs to go. He "won" the jets game and we limped into the playoffs being Ajayi crushing the Bills, but then lost our last 2 behind Moore. Belichick's comments about prepping for the other team before we even played Pitt made it painfully obvious that Matt is a caretaker at best and that he can't be depended upon to protect the ball or win a pressure game. While the sacks were on the protection, both fumbles were on him. That's his career. Nothing against Matt, but again going back to Belichick, I would rather follow his example of constantly turning over the 2nd and 3rd string QB spot hoping to hit on a lottery winner than have a career backup cruising along who can't either push your starter or be counted on to come in and win a meaningful game.

I disagree a bit. I think he helped win 2 meaningful games. I really can't name too many other back ups in the league who could have done much better. I might agree with you with the Belichek plan. Good way to to develop other QB's. Luckily, we haven't had to really discuss this over the last 4 seasons because of Ryan's durability. Not really sure we make the playoffs with a lesser guy as the back up. Regarding the playoffs , not many back ups in the league could've won with the team we brought to Pittsburgh,...especially in those conditions. BTW, does not excuse the painful turnovers made by Moore that were backbreaking

Winning @ the Jets and @ Buffalo were meaningful games as we were competing for a playoff spot. We couldn't afford to drop any of them because the Tannehill-led Dolphins got smoked @ Baltimore.

While I understand your desire to churn thru late round QB's in hopes of hitting a pot of gold. NE wasn't prepping for us because the Raiders had already lost Derek Carr. Or did you think Matt McGloin was gonna beat Denver in Denver the last week of the year? Regardless the rally was on in that NE game, but Damien Williams gave it away - much like you want to pin on MM8 for the Steeler game.

Matt's passing statistics under Gase's mentorship showed he was more than capable of running the offense in Tanny's place when called upon.

I find the talk of "needing to push" the starter ironic. Since when have you wanted that? You're all in on Tanny from what I've seen.

You're trying to frame this as another Moore vs Tannehill debate. It isn't.

At this point, Matt needs to be go. We've seen the best of him and know only too well that Belichick could get as good or better play from guys in their first or second year in the league. Gase should be able to as well. He has that pedigree. Moore's "experience" didn't stop him from repeatedly making bad decisions against the Bills, Pats, and Steelers nor demonstrating poor ball security in either the Pats game nor the Steelers game. He's a nice veteran backup, but his ship sailed back in 2011.

You've been on this site for a year or so. Otherwise you'd know that while I support Tannehill, as he's the best QB we've had since about 1998, that I still want more from the position. I get painted as a "Tannehill guy" only cause I try to be fair to him and occassionally take on stuff I disagree with. Give me a better starter than Tannehill and I'm all over it. That ain't Matt Moore though and never will be. I was hoping Doughty would push Moore off the roster last summer and we'd roll with Tannehill, Doughty, and Dysert. Didn't happen, but that doesn't mean that Moore should continue to coast after spending 6 years on this roster. Bring in some new blood.

Who said that? No one. You're creating a strawman. If we'd had a backup that had been taking snaps and on the roster all season though, then yeah, we could have gotten number of wins and maybe more with better decision making and ball security.

However, which fictitious backup are you referencing that could come in during the crunch time of the year in December with playoffs on the line and be competent? Waaaaaaay too much supposition for my taste.

What ball security in the Pats game? We were in that game until Damien Williams fumbled it away. But again - the defense put him in a bad spot, just like the Steeler game. You don't ask backups to bring you back from 2-3 scores. We're not built that way and that goes for whether it was Moore or Tannehill. Lord knows the running game wasn't doing anything in either contest - so it was all Matt. Based on his completion percentages - this was some of his best and what you'd want out of a competent backup.

Gase and Co. kept him because they clearly see the value and if they believe in Tannehill then they don't want anything disrupting a run - like a young, inexperienced QB screwing up our playoff hopes.

I've already stated Moore's potential to start are long gone. No team is going to invest in a 32 year old in that capacity. We get to benefit from that.

No. I said nothing about signing a guy in Dec. I specifically said a QB who had been with us all season and who knew the offense. And again, for what we got from Matt in 4 games - 2 wins, 1 coming behind a monster running attack, and 2 lopsided losses, then yeah, if we'd had another option on the roster all season, then likely get the same 2 wins, be it Brandon Doughty or some other guy.

Really think Matt did something special in any of those 4 games that we couldn't have gotten from another QB? As far as that goes, T.J. Yates is 1-1 in his career in the playoffs. If he'd been here all year, we likely win the same games.

Matt opened the Pats game 0 for 2 with an INT and finished it 2 of 10 with an INT when pressured. Nah, we need better. Some young blood to compete, not collect a paycheck and come up with 2 wins every 4 or 5 years behind a strong ground game...

You forget Matt fumbled in the Pats game to? He flat out dropped it, then picked up and threw it late to Parker for 2 yards. Play was completely muffed by Matt in the 3rd qtr.

We benefit from what? His experience? That didn't help him much on the Dupree hit where had time to make a completion, throw it away, or run OOB. Instead he watched Dupree run towards him 15 yards and plant him. Another bad decision by Matt there.

I said no such thing. Stop with the strawman act. For someone who professes to be "Anti-Homer", you're being a huge Matt Moore homer. Matt Moore has given us the best he has, now it's time to move on and improve the unit. Having to find Yates on the street alone shows that we haven't paid enough attention to the position. How many years did we wait before drafting Tannehill in the 1st? Churn Matt Moore, groom Brandon Doughty, and find another guy to develop so that when and if we, we're prepared. We just watched the Pats win games and sweep us using 3 QBs, including rookie, Brissett.

It's a difference of opinion when it comes to strategy. Neither is the more correct. You'd be banking on a guy like Doubty to not **** the bed. I would personally rather have a guy the team is comfortable with for 3-4 games when called upon to manage while the starter heals.

The whole Rivers/Brees or RG3/Cousins thing doesnt happen a whole lot. Having said that Moore's age does give some caution even to me. However coaches say he is a gym rat and he has little wear on him ..... unless something bag stems from that cheap hit he took.

Agree with everything but the cheapshot part. That was on Matt. Bud Dupree ran 15 yards towards him facing Matt who could have thrown it away or stepped at at anytime. Replay and still shots show he was hit in the chest. Just looked worst when it was live.

Dupree's helmet is up in Moore's neck and chin, which is why Moore said he was looking for his teeth after the hit.

It was a violent, unnecessary hit and not the first time in that game.

Only in your mind did he not get hit on the chin. It's pretty clear the first contact is on Moore's facemask which makes his head violently twist.

Only in your mind is it a bad play when Moore escapes pressure once again in the game, scrambles to give guys time to get open, find an open man down field, deliver a strike into Jarvis' chest (which he dropped), then taking arguably the biggest hit of the year a bad play. Then he sat out a play, argued with Gase about going back in the game, and came back in. Only in a bad poster's mind is that a bad thing.

That's the thing winning teams rally around, a guy giving his all and sacrificing himself to try and make a play. That's why people love Ryan, he's tough as hell. That's why this team respects Moore, he's a ****ing gamer and lays it all out there.

That's one example of why you're a bad poster. I don't care to spend what would arguably take weeks to lay out every example of why you're bad, just from this thread.
