So we're supposed to look at Moore's terrible first half (he was great in the second) but Tanny was amazing for
    Two drives against the Rams.

You're saying Matt Moore had NOTHING to do with Saturday's win?

And you have the audacity to tell other people they know nothing about football?

How many games did Tannehill single-handedly win in 2016? How many games did Tannehill have a perfect passer rating?

Unless your answer is, "Every single one of them", then I'm hoping you can see why you're dead wrong passing judgement here. We have a back up quarterback leading us to division victories in December! If that's not enough for you, then you're just not a Miami Dolphin fan.

Well, to be fair, he really didn't "lead" them to the win...Jay Ajayi did. He played an average to below average game...that simple.

And since when does having a perfect passer rating mark the single determining factor to whether a QB led their team to wins? You kinda killed your own argument...Moore didn't either.

Not being "instrumental" to a win is much much different than having "nothing to do" with a win.

    Who cares?
Adam Gase is the only person that "led" Miami to the playoffs.

The people that dislike Tannehill won't give him credit for the first 8 games and the role they had in leading us to the playoffs. The people concerned with Tannehill's reputation will downplay Moore winning two road games to secure the playoff spot and will claim that Tannehill would have done better.
This debate is pointless, neither side will give in, nor can either contention be proven. We don't know how Tannehill would have done in the those games. We do know that Miami was 8-5 under Tannehill and that the playoffs would not have been possible with a worse record.

This is another flame-bait / troll post

My argument was that no quarterback is ever perfect, but we seem to be hearing "Moore sucks" over 4-5 bad throws. And if that's the standard, then I can show you where every quarterback in the history of the game has sucked just as bad.

My real point though was that it's not time to be bashing Moore or any of the backups that's on the field- it's time to get ready to beat NE's *** and make some noise in the playoffs. For some younger fans, this is probably the best season they've ever seen this team play...yet they're the ones driving these crazy narratives. It does not make a lick of sense.

This thread is such a disgrace. It should have been deleted. Instead it's at the top of the page. Just shows how screwed up this board is over the QB position. (And yeah, I'm now part of the problem.)

When MM came in I said I was hoping for the 2011 edition minus the fumbles. And I realized that was a lot to ask for. So far I'd say I've gotten that and then some. Six TDs, two INTs, two December road wins. And when RT is fully recovered he'll take the job back, be it in the playoffs or next September.

We're so lucky. We have two guys who can play and (as far as I know) no real QB controversy. And yet we have endless threads like this. It really is a shame.

Take another look at the Ajayi TD vs the Bills. The oline did nothing correct on that play. Ajayi bounced off a rusher as soon as he got the ball, threw another defender, who was also in the backfield, to the ground and beat everyone else to the corner. Pure will on Jay's part.

I do not agree he was great in the second. Wide receivers/runningbacks were great in the second. Moore was adequate.

Ryan like most mid tier QB's is usually a tale of two halves himself. Although I was thoroughly impressed with the SF game. Not so much St Louis, def not Baltimore.

Although I think Moore was terrible in the first half and "good" not great in the second.

But you are right, he got it done. Just like Ryan did vs Rams....found a way. You either accept that or look foolish trying to tell people why.

Yeah, I thought Moore was pretty poor all game with the exception of a couple throws in the 3rd and the one to Stills on the game tying drive.

The two big plays in the passing game were the Parker touchdown and the big run by Williams. Both of which were because of great effort by the receiver and poor tackling by the Buffalo defense.

This is what Moore is. He was real good against the Jets, and poor against the Bills. He'll probably be somewhere in between against the Pats.

167 of his 233 yards came after the catch and most of those were because of ridiculously crappy tackling.

I don't think anybody thinks Moore is better. Its just that the separation between the two isn't worth $18 million and a first round pick.

Put it this way: Dalton is better than Moore, but would you trade a first round pick and Moore for Dalton?

Well said. I liked Moore to start when Tannehill was drafted. Tannehill won the job and Moore showed up this year being his usual self. Not sure what's wrong with that.

But like dozens of people here have said, what slightly above-average quarterbacks wouldn't be near-perfect under Gase for a decade? In this league you're lucky to get a single year to prove yourself- Tannehill has had five under three coaches. Don't get me wrong, he's pretty darn solid today.....but you can't give him a four-year pass for being average and then get critical on Moore for four quarters of football.

Especially when he's 2-0 in December against division opponents.

    Completely irrelevant and invalid.

First of all, the difference isn't $18M if you look at average salary.

Second, even if it WAS $18M, that's below average pay for a QB contract. Tannehill's contract is average, not some inordinate amount of overpaid cash. The narrative is complete bull**** and is routinely perpetuated by trolls here and on FH.

Lastly, players/positions aren't valuated in that manner, that's just twisting to support an agenda.

But by all means...go forward with MM as the starter. Take a picture of this playoff trip, it'll be valuable January 2018 when the Dolphins are watching the playoffs.

Or draft a QB next year to replace Ryan immediately with a 21+ pick...that way you can just draft another in 2018 with a 3 pick.

Or better yet, bring on Tebow...he's cheap!

That's a **** way of describing his situation, for such a good writer.

Tannehill was different than most first round QBS, as you certainly know, because he was so raw. If most QBS get 3 years, pretty common, Tannehill was getting 4-5 because of his inexperience, to allow him to catch up. Not his fault he had such garbage coaching his first 4 years.

So, since Brady only has a 110 rating Moore is better, right? Mike Glennon has a 125. He's the best QB in the league, right? Garoppolo has a 115. He's better than Brady also, huh?

My point is, Moore has completed 31 passes this season at a comp rate of 58%. RT is a bad Baltimore game away from being in Brees and Rodgers passer rating territory. (Hell, most would argue that his rating, being 8/9 points behind those two, already is.) Touting a 113 rating is just lame and very transparent. IJS

And in no way is this a knock on Moore. He's done what a backup is supposed to do. Especially one paid as much as he is. However, he has had a few very lucky bounces in his 2 wins.

    Great post!

Of course Moore can do one or two things better than RT. Moore can do one or two things better than Brady, too. The Dolphins are lucky to have him as their back-up. But, anyone who thinks Moore is better than RT doesn't know anything about football. I mean, maybe they know something that the 32 NFL teams don't know? How many offers has Moore had to go and be a starter in this league?

Some people have very short memories. In 2011 Moore was the Dolphins starter. He started 12 games. It was his 5th year in the league. He had an 87 passer rating that year.

Tannehill does not deserve to play if he is not 100%. That is bad for the team, but if he ends up hurt like RG3, misses camp and next year, then what?

    Deserve?

IMO, if he's 90% he's better than Moore and should start when he gets to 90%. Every player on nearly every play is at risk of serious injury.

Listen to what you are saying. You want to risk his career? Thank God Gase has said the opposite. When things have changed, he will re-evaluate. I again point to RG3. What is the latest on his ACL?

Risk his career? Most players are at 90% this late in the season. A 90% healthy RT means things have changed.

RG3's ACL? Last I heard it was fine. Are you talking about his shoulder injury?

There is sustainability and stabilty beyond this season. Look if we win a few more games and Moore isn't contributing, we can talk, based on the knee. But I dont care who is qb if we can run this ball. My point is, qb isnt going to be why we lose, it will be defense. Unless you plan pn playing RT at safety, he will be shut down
