We lost our QB with an ACL tear, won the game, and then later learned that our QB didn't tear his ACL. Lost in all that was the horrendous end-of-game clock management. What happened on those last few plays?? I was screaming at Williams to go down! Why wasn't Ajayi in the game? Why didn't we call timeout? Why did we run the ball. I was kinda drunk, and haven't re-watched the game. Can someone explain what in the heck Gase was thinking at the end of the game?
All very good questions. I was screaming at my TV for Williams to go down, and then swearing at Gase for not having Ajayi in.
Yeah good point Gardenhead. Actually one could make that same argument for the play before the one you're pointing out. The one you're talking about is 2nd and goal at the 3 with 10 seconds left. But we had 37 seconds left on the play before that: 1st and goal at the 1 yard line. And of course one has 40 seconds for the play.. so why not kick a FG after running the clock down? By trying to get the TD (twice!) you risk fumbling and if time remains the tiny possibility of them returning it for a TD. I'd think kicking the FG from such short range is still the better option.
Gase said in his presser that he wanted to get the ball to the other hash mark but looking back it was unnecessary and almost costly. He learned from it I`m sure.
Not only that but it gives you time to retry it if you get a bad snap or something. As sloppy as that game ball was.it might not of been a bad idea to kick the ball early Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
I don't think Gase expected that play was going to take that much time either. Williams kept it alive longer than he needed to, especially if it was called just to get the ball to the other hash for the FG so your kicker is more comfortable with the kick. The outcome was almost costly. Teaching moment for Gase himself, and Williams there to just get down if that's the intent of the play.
Yeah and Moore fell down making the handoff -- scary. Not excusing Williams, but I think he got hit in the backfield and instinct just took over. As far as I know Ajayi didn't play during that last drive. What was that about?
