No, a true fan supports their team and roots for them even when they know there's very little chance they'll win.
agreed. But that's kind of what Vinny was saying. They have the better roster but he still thinks we'll win
I don't think that's necessarily true. If you go through our roster, position by position, you'll see that we're absolutely stacked on offense. Parker, Landry, Stills and Ajayi would start almost anywhere. Our line is solid (when healthy). Our TE's are productive and they can block. Very few teams have as complete of a package on that side of the ball....we just haven't put it all together yet. The play-calling still isn't there and we fail to execute. On defense we do have a lot of holes. But so did New England for many of the Super Bowl wins. They compensated by finding the end zone more often. The same could be said for the Giants or Ravens. We just need to take that next step and start moving the ball consistently...and it could happen at any time now. It just takes the right balance and Gase hasn't completely found that yet.
I personally think if the game matters for the playoffs like the Baltimore game did or the numerous games in past years did, RT will not play good. I expect nothing from him.
**** the Cardinals. We are headed into the last game with the Pats at 10 and 5. We are going to the playoffs...so **** Buffalo..**** the MFNY Jets. And **** all the haters..get on board now...or get yer *** left behind!
I don't get this. The six games before meant nothing in getting in the playoffs? Do you hold up the rest of the team to these standards in big games? Not denying RT played poorly in Baltimore, also not denying so did 52 other players
Fair. So roughly 50 players played poorly? Where is the equal outrage of playing small in a big game for them?.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I just read that this defense gave up the most yrds in back to back games since 1984... that's 32 yrs ago!... but Tannehill can't play in the big games are some people's narrative after our last game. Once again , Tannehill was not great in Baltimore but this defense's putrid play changed the entire complexion and game plan for the rest of that game Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hoping we win and thinking we will win are close but there is a subtle distinction. If our 1-15 team played the 18-1 Patriots a true fan would know the chances are slim but hoping we'd win anyway because of any given Sunday. I hope we win every week. But thinking you're gonna win with no reason is sort of blind optimism and that's fine. But to say if you don't have blind optimism you're not a true fan is silly.
I think there is more pertinent questions though Travis. Basing this on if RT does play poorly in the upcoming games. Why would you pay 20 mil for a QB that no one believes in? because if he does falter down the stretch, the players won't believe in him anymore, and that is a bad situation. Why would you pay a QB 20 mil that goes in the tank in games where he's needed most? no one smart would imo, this is a business, how you manage your money is just as important as evaluating talent, and spending such a large sum on a dead duck QB is not helping the team. Then we get to the equation that really hammers this home. Remember this is based on if RT doesn't play well. Why would you pay a QB that you've already decided to move on from, 20mil when you've designed this contract to be able to cut him this year, before he starts making "franchise" money? this is the kicker here, because this clause was put in the contract in case of the first 2 questions. Everyone saw this team quit on Philbin, that is because they didn't believe in him anymore, they didn't believe in his ability to make them a winning football team, the same dynamic will happen with a QB that the team doesn't believe can lead them to victory, and that is simply the human condition. I can't think of a better way to get a HC fired, trot a team out onto the field every week that doesn't believe they can win any significant games, some players will resent him and his huge salary, it's just breeding an atmosphere of discontent. It's hope vs drudgery, a fresh start, a change offers some hope where sticking with what you know doesn't work is drudgery. Which atmosphere is preferable?
Actually, Tony Romo would be pretty darn intriguing if Gase had a rookie or prospect he feels strongly about. It's almost a Pennington 2.0 scenario except our offensive pieces are a heck of a lot better this time around. It would be a massive, massive gamble though and since we'd be back around the same cap numbers, what do we really gain from the move? So I think I'd pass.
I admire your passion and hope you are right. Personally I think there is no shot this team leaves Buffalo Christmas Eve with a win. No shot at all. Cardinals, Jets and Patriots, I think they have a shot.
The one thing I remembered about those 2 ending games of 2013 is this: Buffalo just destroyed Miami's offensive line in that game. Like, it wasn't even close. Against the Jets, Hartline missed the 2nd half and Davone Bess was Miami's #1 receiver. Nobody was open in that 2nd half. Like, nobody. Tannehill did miss a wide open bomb late in the first, and that was frustrating, but I don't know who he was supposed to throw to in that second half.
The Bills have only one tough game left: Hosting Pittsburgh. Pitt doesn't play well on the road. I think the Bills can and will win that game. Then, they just have to beat us at home (I think that's a 'gimme', sorry to say), the Browns at home, and the Jets. I think Buffalo finishes 10-6. Now, if another team finishes 10-6 I'm not sure what those tie-breakers are.
Because it's December. In Buffalo. And Miami NEVER wins there. I still remember being at a game back when Ricky was in his prime where he had over 200 yards in Buffalo and Miami still found a way to lose. Add to that, will the line be healthy by then? That's a big question mark. If the line is back to 100% healthy, I'd have to go from saying they have no shot to a small shot.
Well the Dolphins made me look silly for worrying about a December dive today. Unfortunately, with Tannehill's injury it might still be on the menu. The good news is the way the Jets are playing, it should be very winnable for a Matt Moore led Dolphins team. And reports have Rex Ryan being fired as early as this week. That could be good or bad, but I also read that if he is fired Buffalo could turn to a rookie QB to see what he has. That wouldn't guarantee a win, and I still remember that 4th string QB Thad something or other that beat Miami twice in one season. But win those 2 games and Miami and Matt Moore could find their way to the playoffs regardless of the Patriots game.
