First up....the Arizona Cardinals. I spent the whole Ravens weeks being nervous...and we got our asses kicked. All our other games I took the "We're winning this mother****er" attitude...I decided being nervous for game week sucks. So Heres a great big "Get the **** out of our way!" to the Arizona Cardinals.

Fair enough. And for some reason I'm a lot more confident this week than I was before the Ravens game. Not too sure thats a realistic approach but I have a gut feeling we got this. If we lose then the all too familar " December swoon" theories will be out in full force. And perhaps deservedly so.

If we win out....our chances of making the playoffs are 88%
If we win 3 of 4 ...we have a 52% chance of making playoffs..
If we win 2 of 4...we have a 13% chance of making playoffs..

    http://www.playoffstatus.com/nfl/dolphinswhatif.html

So a 10/6 record is still a coin flip as to whether or not we make playoffs. Not sure where the dire predictions of slim chance at 10/6 came from.

The dire predictions came from one of two places- the folks who said teams usually need 11 wins to make the playoffs (which has nothing to do with 2016 at all) and people who just guessed. Of the Chiefs, Broncos, Ravens, Pittsburgh and everyone behind us, you're not going to see two of them hit the 11 wins mark. Someone (or maybe both the 5th and 6th seed) will get in with 10 wins. Their schedules are just too brutal and many face each other or NE in this final stretch.

Like I said before though, there's five teams still in this race and four positions available with division champs. Since all the other teams still play each other, we're guaranteed multiple losses that will balance everything out...if one of em wins 11, then the other is going to be at 9 wins. So 10 for us is a very magical number.

We should have better footing, so w can play tighter defense.

Arizona's roster still looks daunting despite their record. Talent all over the field. I worry that David Johnson is just going to abuse us, particularly in the passing game. Very glad to be getting them at home.

I'm hyped for this one. Let's see how this team responds after getting their a$$es kicked.

We could go 11-5 and still miss the playoffs this year. So, even if we win out we could still be looking for help to get in.

    Scenario
    NE : 12-4
    MIA: 11-5 OUT

    BAL: 10-6
    PIT: 10-6 OUT

    OAK: 13-3
    KC : 12-4
    DEN: 11-5

    HOU: 9-6-1

What happens in the West and North is what determines our fate. Mainly the West. That and our ability to win out.

EDIT: I used the playoff machine, based on win % and adjusted a couple games for the AFC only in the way I can very reasonably see them ending up due to home field, etc.(and then giving us the NE game of course to push us up) Which also included the results from tonight's game. Without editing we were at 10-6 and out of it.

Denver will need to loose 2 more games and Pitt will need to as well. Depending on who Pitt loses to would determine if we get in at the same record.

We can get in at 10-6 if Denver and Baltimore fall to 9-7 in a way that gets Pitt to 11-5.

The point being... even it we win out, we're not guaranteed a playoff birth even with a good/great record of 11-5.

Pitt is a team to watch imo, they seem to have adjusted from D losses, and Ben seems to be fully healthy again, they may be back on the track they looked like they were on before we injured Ben, they looked dangerous.

I expect them to win 3, but can easily see them winning out, if they win @ Buf sunday I think they win out at 11-5, with Cincy, Clevland and Balt @ Pitt(not in that order).

Den could go 10-6, I kind of expect it, but I could see a very possible 9-7 logjam for the 6th seed, I can see Den, Balt at 9-7 easy, us and the Bills too.

9-7 may very well be the 6th seed record, but there might be a lot of company.

I'm on board with the attitude the VT has...let's go into December with a "nothing's getting in our way" attitude; we've had a far greater season than most probably would have expected but even if we have a December implosion, we all need to keep things in perspective...

This is Adam Gase's FIRST season as our head coach. Very few first year head coaches have instant success. For the first time in many years, I'm quite optimistic for our team's future!

I was nervous last week as well. I said in the Baltimore thread, that had we been playing almost any other squad, I'd have felt pretty good. But those guys totally have our number, and I just hate everything about the orginization from top to bottom.

This week, I really don't know. We have holes all over our defense, we're still missing Pouncey and Albert and Tunsil are playing hurt. Hopefully, we can put up enough points to counter what they throw at us. I'm not confidant though.

You know...I know many people hate to hear excuses. But I think you have a very legitimate point on the field footing. I was thinking back to when I would play broom ball on the ice with friends. First we all had either sneakers or winter boots on...so footing sucked for us all. The guys that had played on the ice before though...they knew how to move on it..were more sure of their footing then guys who had just started playing. I think there is something to the Ravens just spent more time on that field..they were just more confident in their footing. We were like...whoa this field sucks.

I think it did make a difference Deej...good observation

What the playoff machine didn't show you is that Denver has to face four consecutive teams leading their division- it will be extremely tough for them to reach 11 wins. New England and Miami have the easiest schedules, Baltimore has two tough games and everyone else plays competitors all four weeks.

I'm not saying that we definitely get in at 10 wins, but that sixth seed will not be an 11 win team. Ten gives us a decent chance anyways.

I'd wager a good chunk of change that the 6th seed will have 10 wins.
If we win today, I think we get to 10 wins.
The problem I see is, I think the 7th seed could also be at 10 wins.

Its a bit of a top heavy year in the AFC. Its not hard to see four teams with a winning record miss the playoffs.

Fantastic game!! Best game this year for me.

Whole team deserves kudos. I mean.. after that Baltimore debacle, every unit of the team comes out strong to start the game, continues to play well.. then when Tannehill goes down and you think it's over.. BAM! Team doesn't give up.

Well.. I'm no fan of Matt Moore and winning in December just got tougher, but you've got to be a fan of this never die attitude. Great job!

The irony, yesterday my friend just was on a train to Philly and they had to make an emerg stop and change because the train was on fire. Maybe it was a sign.

I just don't see Matt Moore and near half of our starting defense pulling it off.

Yeah.. it's really unlikely, but I personally never thought we'd be in the wild card race at this point in the season so who knows! Just so happy we've found a competent HC. This season is already worth it for that alone.

Although I could see Tannehill and half our starting defense pulling it off.

I'm 50/50 on that. @Buffalo and vs. Patriots is tough. But yeah.. certainly far higher probability than with Moore (at least the Moore I've known).

I'm with you though. we could go 0-3 1-2 etc to end the season and im not someone who's gunna be calling this season a failure, it was far from it. We had a long season to go when Jones went out. Tannehill played good enough to pretty much lock that he isn't going anywhere.

Next year is always 'the year' but we could very well be a scary team next year. but the injury bug is just too much for us rn.
