Saw Dr. Strange today. Overall very enjoyable. Pacing and visual effects were phenomenal. Rachel McAdams role was a throwaway though. She deserves better.
I enjoyed it. I loved the ending of this movie. Spoiler That reverse fight scene was freaking amazing and I loved how he used his mind to defeat the main bad guy.
Saw it in IMAX 3D, if possible you should see it in that format. the great special effects were pretty amazing in IMAX. pretty good story. Benedict plays the supremely smart and cocky roles better than anyone in Hollywood. Really enjoyed the movie. At first I questioned the change with the Eye of Agamotto, but more I think about it, the more it flows well within the Marvel Universe.
I like the Ghost Rider in Agents of Shield. Now I want to see the Dr. Strange movie. I can't believe I didn't click on the spoiler.
I think that they're handling Ghost Rider better than I expected. The season has been a little weird , but not bad, and they're doing their own thing in spite of lack of support from the movie division. There is too much in-fighting between the main characters though. Never something I'm a fan of, and its been going on all season. I'm hoping things are back to closer to normal for the second half in the new year.
Doctor Strange was probably my second favorite Disney marvel movie after the Winter Soldier. Great acting and visual effects.
Dr Strange was good. Another origin story, so you could only expect so much. It's gonna be unpredictable, lol, but the acting was good and the visuals were unique. Marvel's sort of stuck in that it 1) the studio has to keep the movies feeling somewhat consistent with a similar vibe, but 2) it can't feel formulaic. So in that context, yeah, they did pretty well.
Caught up on the last few episodes of Agents of Shield. I continue to really enjoy where they're taking the show, and am reading up on characters that they've introduced this season to get an idea on what will happen in the spring when the show resumes. Its nice that even though the movie side of Marvel keeps crapping on the show, they keep trucking along.
I'm a long time Marvel guy. I've been into the comics since the 80s, and was getting excited at the posibility of X-Men movies for years before they actually started. But I'm having a lot of trouble getting interested, let alone excited, for Logan. It just looks dull, dark and gloomy. It just seems like such a sour note to end Hugh Jackman's long career with the franchise on. I've also read that it may not even be connected to the rest of the X-Men film universe, which is a big turnoff for me.
Weird. I have the complete opposite reaction. I think it looks amazing. And the rest of the X-Men film universe is highly underwhelming. I think they would be better off in keeping them kind of separate but the same, kind of like real comic books.
It is not Logan's kid. Spoiler: What she is in the comics It is his clone. The Y chromosome was to damaged, so they had to make a female to get it to work.
Spoiler Even as a clone it doesn't make sense since the adamantium is not a part of his genes. Looking it up though I guess her bone claws were extracted and covered with adamantium, and that is why they aren't bone. While it makes some sense now that I know what it is based around, I don't find it any more appealing.
I am excited to see a new character on screen. X-23 has been around for a while. I think it is neat that she is going to be on the big screen.
Me either. I've seen all six X-Men movies, and both Wolverine movies in the cinema, but I'm likely going to pass on this one.
it's a fitting end to Jackman's run as Wolverine. It's going to be rated R (thanks Ryan Reynolds) so they won't have to hold back on the violence for friendlier rating.
I watched Doctor Strange this past weekend, and enjoyed it. I'm much less familiar with the character than I am many others, but I thought that Bernie Cucumber did a good job in the role. It wasn't my favorite stand alone MCU film, but I'm curious to see how it connects to the rest of the films. Without giving anything away for those who haven't seen it, it kind of just skims the surface a lot, and leaves a lot of things just wide open.
Logan was fantastic. Great ending to his run as Wolverine. Spoiler He and Professor X passing away was a super tear jerker. Great stuff.
Few few bits of MCU news: http://geektyrant.com/news/james-gunn-confirms-guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-3-will-happen There will definately be a Guardians 3 at some point after the next two Avengers films, which is awesome. http://geektyrant.com/news/chris-ev...h-captain-america-after-avengers-infinity-war Chris Evans is out as Captain America after those same two movies. Whether someone else will then take over the role of Cap (a thing firmly grounded in the source material) is yet to be determined.
I watched Logan too and thought it was a great way to end the Wolverine storyline. It was a really good movie.
as much as I love the marvel movies, i wouldn't mind if they took a break from Cap/Avengers movies after Infinity War. If Infinity War is as good as hoped, combined with Thor Ragnarok, then hard to think of any story lines that won't be a let down. Maybe they can continue to focus on lesser heroes/teams movies after that. Loved Dr Strange, would like to see more successful non-avengers movies. plus, I'm sure the ladies in my town would love to see him take more breaks and come home. I saw him in the coffee shop last fall and all the women, including my wife, were absolutely drooling.
Well, I think that we've already seen the last Iron Man and Captain America movies, and whether or not Ragnarok is the final Thor movie is TBD. We now have budding franchises with Dr Strange and Ant Man, and then there's the new Spiderman movie out this year, and Black Panther in 2018, and Captain Marvel in 2019. All of that leading up to Avengers 4. So, they're churning the roster, and we'll see who and what comes out of it from 2019 onward.
My wife and I got a surprise date night, and decided to make the most of it and see a movie. As there wasn't anything else out that I was interested in, we decided to go ahead and see Logan, even though I had my reservations. It turned out that my gut was spot on. The appeal of the film is just completely lost on me. While I won't say that its a bad movie, because it wasn't poorly made, I am simply not the intended audience, despite about 30 years as an X-Men fan. Grim, bleak, hopeless, and somehow brutally violent and gory, while at the same time slow and meandering. I know that a lot of people like that kind of thing today, but I am not one of them. I'd hoped that I was wrong. That I would actually like the movie, and have a good time, as I have every other X-Men and MCU movie over the past 17 years, but I did not. I don't regret seeing it, but at the same time, I'll never watch it again, and I'm not sure I'll make much of an effort to understand it, where it came from, and why it didn't try very hard to explain itself. Eagerly waiting on Guardians 2 in a month. Much more my cup of tea.
So, the Logan reviews are all over the spectrum, which means I will just wait til it comes out on Direct TV. and yeah, eagerly awaiting Guardians 2.
Most of the Logan reviews I have seen are extremely positive. There are a few outliers who did not like the movie. I freaking loved it. Great movie.
I think I feel similar to you about the movie. It wasn't bad, but there's plenty I don't understand and I guess I don't care enough too. I did however appreciate like there may actually be gore when Wolverine is involved though.
Hmm, I thought it was far and away the best of Jackman's Wolverine movies, and far and away the best of the Fox set. Very different vibe than most. It is interesting Unlucky that you thought it bleak and hopeless. That was kind of the point - to be bleak BUT to have hope for the future. Mutant kind fading, the old players all dying off, even the invincible Wolverine, and along comes generation 2 to step up to the plate. It was also much much more of a road movie than an action flick, and also a great commentary on acceptance of things outside our control while working to make our lives, and that of others, better. Oh, and aging. Mid 30's me sympathized with the character suddenly learning he had a "daughter" while at the same time he is finally feeling the effects of age and hard living. Some quite heavy emotional moments, which you never really get in the other XMen movies or really even the other Wolverine's, and even to a degree the Marvel. It felt more ... cinematic/artistic than just a popcorn flick (which is was most of the XMen/Marvel movies are). It certainly was a little slow in places, and some plot elements nagged at me (why would they stop at that family's house for god sake, they know ruthless killers are after them!), but overall I thought it was incredibly well done. The violence I thought was done effectively as well. That is what Wolverine should have been from day 1. Present, purposeful and brutal, but not the focus of the film. Simply a device to show what the man was capable of, and also he gave lots of commentary on how it affected him, and the advice he is trying to impart to X23.
They've been filming scenes for Avengers: Infinity War in my home city, Edinburgh, the last couple of weeks. A blue screen set has been set up in our main train station, and there was a large explosion created on set in the historic Royal Mile a couple of nights ago. Looking forward now to seeing Edinburgh appear in a major blockbuster, hopefully not too much hits the cutting room floor! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-39503647
Thats awesome! I loved my visit to the city years back. Ill watch to see any sights im familiar with.
that's pretty cool. WE've been having a movie filmed in my town, Concord, MA. Just wrapped up. not same caliber movie, something called Daddy's home 2, but has Will Ferrell, Wahlburg and Mel Gibson walking around our little downtown. They decorated a whole section of downtown in Xmas lights and built a Santa's workshop.
http://geektyrant.com/news/josh-brolin-cast-as-cable-in-deadpool-2 Josh Brolin, who will be playing Thanos is several upcoming MCU movies, has now also signed on with FOX to play Cable in at least four movies in their X-Men universe. The dude is playing both sides! Now, if only they could merge the two, and he could then fight himself on screen.
Agree with this... and if you followed Logan/Wolverine's life in comics back in the 80's that's the way it was. My favorite Wolverine Comic of all time is the first series Wolverine #3 where he's a drunk living on the streets with Yukio and fighting in bars to make drinking money until Yukio kills Asano and Logan figures out she's been playing him... Even the cover art was bleak. Link here - https://uncannyxmen.net/comics/issue/wolverine-1st-series-3 Separately, DareDevil's life the much the same with loneliness, misfortune, and regret as they fought common enemies while moving from woman to woman looking for love and a measure of happiness.
