Did anyone else notice the shackles on Tannehill?

watching this game yesterday, I was waiting for us to go deep, taking advantage of the 32nd pass defense. Instead I saw screen after screen and short passes. I know Parker and Stills were hurt, but it was obvious Gase was not going to let a turnover lose this game. Have we seen a new paradigm now in this team? Maybe the Jets did something I missed. SD has a bottom 5 pass defense too.

I am not opposed to this, however, teams will make sure the run is a priority and Miami will have to use play action fakes and loosen up the defenses. Miami will have to have some threat passing the ball.

I think when we play low scoring offenses with good defenses like Seattle we go into a conservative game plan under gase. Which is fine so long as ajayi is rushing for 100 yards. I think vs san Diego we will have to open it up but if the run game is working at high gear maybe we stay with it. You don't abandon a good running game until it gets stopped

Their dline was winning the Los by a pretty substantial margin.

Stills was out and Parker can't seem to get open. They missed on the one to Caroo. IMO with Stills out we don't have any deep threats who are playing well. I didn't see it as shackles on Tannehill. I thought he did a nice job moving in the pocket as his protection wasn't great. We have some offensive issues, but they're more about the WRs than the QB right now.

The game plan was odd. Not only a lot of short passes, but a lot of the same play calls over and over. The pass protection wasn't good though.

Couldn't they use Grant to run some fly patterns, even if only as a decoy.

I noticed on the second or third play of the game they called a play action. Tannehill rolled out to his right and Still was running wide open deep, BUT Stills never turned his head around.... looked like he kinda gave up not expecting the ball, Tannehill threw to the middle depth receiver.

I want Grant to get on the field more in any capacity. I haven't watched the all-22 for this game but for past games Landry was the only guy I saw get fairly consistent separation. Stills got separation on a few routes. Reports from fans at this game stated that there were no WRs open and the one time they showed the full field during the telecast showed no WRs open. But Grant's quickness should make him a tough cover.

I wouldn't say that at all. When you're facing a DL like the Jets have, a quick passing game is necessary. Then when your only deep threat (Stills) is out, you've lost your ability to stretch the defense. Landry isn't really a deep threat, he's great at what he does though. Parker is invisible out there and quickly approaching bust status IMO. Combine all that and your offensive abilities are pretty limited. Surprised we didn't have more opportunity against that secondary though, but I think it's time we start to realize what Parker may be. Soft, and not the impact player at WR that he has the potential to be. He doesn't really give the impression that he wants it bad enough.

I would love to see that, but when you put a five foot seven, 160 pound decoy on the field....he's going to get lit up whether the ball comes to him or not. After seeing how explosive he is on special teams, do we really want to open that door to season ending injury? The do have an offensive package specifically for him; they just haven't seen a reason to run it yet.

To the OP; it's hard when your top two receivers are not on the field or playing hurt. Parker re-hurt his hamstring and he was expected to be a scratch for the game, so he was basically out there playing decoy while running short routes. Stills was doing the same thing since he was sick and had no energy. That put everything on Landry and receivers who normally don't take the field at all, which meant that Tannehill had zero reps with these guys. In recent years, that would have spelled a blowout for this squad...so I'm okay with the stats showing a lethargic offense for a week. There's only one stat I care about that really matters at this point, the W.

Grant has the type of body that if he can ever figure out how to be a slot receiver, he could be unguardable.

I was at the game, there was a lot of pressure from their front four to make Thill get rid of the ball fast. But I am disappointed with our WRs, they got no separation against this very mediocre secondary

I think you hit the nail on the head regarding Parker. He just isn't the WR we were led to believe he would be when he was drafted. He has been mediocre at best and Landry and Stills have clearly been better this entire season.

Once Stills left the game because of illness, Parker became a complete non factor. Whether he is still recovering from his early season injury or he has just regressed from how he played late in the season last year, the Dolphins need him to step up his game.

At this time, he is starting to look like another wasted first round draft pick for the Dolphins.

What is pathetic that in this era of football which is basically basketball on grass, it is very difficult to be a bust wide receiver but Parker is showing us it is possible

Go back and look to last season.
Tannehill threw the football 102 times in two losses to the Jets.
Just reminding everyone that the play calling is already better under Gase than that ego maniac Bill Lazor.

How is a WR running a fly pattern going to get lit up if they don't throw his way? Even if they do throw his way, he is built more like a mini RB and has taken plenty of punishment both in the return game and as a WR in college and has shown no ill-effects. Not playing him as a WR because you fear he may get hurt is very Philbinesque.

We tried limiting Wake and Mario, plus switched to short passes for Tannehill for the same reasons- you protect your assets the best you can. Grant will see occasional action at WR, but he will never be a Welker-type taking that punishment in the flats and working across the middle. They will definitely be more creative with him.

missed a wife open TD, and had another pass that should have been a pick 6 for the Jets. how long can that kind of play continue?

I never said I wanted him in the slot. I said I'd have him run fly patterns to keep the safety honest. If you are only doing it as a decoy than there is probably not a safer position in football. But I don't think you need to baby him either.

Typical Tom Brady.... Err, oh.... Well nothing s all too rough when it equates to wins. Sorry I know your looking for the downside but I'm pretty sure the game plan dictated that, especially with stills out.

zero mistakes and a win... " how much longer can that type of play continue? "

    As long as possible....Duh. SMH

Fans are so used to seeing 60+ % passing from the Dolphins and no commitment to the run that they get a little confused when Gase decides to go with a balanced offense.

But usually balanced offense means run and pass attempts balance. Not run yards and pass yards balance ;)
