If Landry gets a fine or a suspension it's ****ing bull****.

Especially when this douche effectively ended a carreer with no flag, no fine and no suspension whatsoever, in PRESEASON no less.

He was following the ballcarrier and didn't see Landry until a millisecond before the hit. That's why these hits are illegal now.

It was a cheap shot. Plain and simple. Was it malicious? Naw, I don't think so. But it's still illegal and ill advised. Landry knows he is not looking at him.

This shot shows it best as it seems to be normal speed (earlier one in the OP seems slowed down). The second shot is from behind and you see where his head is pointed and how fast he was hit.

Umm, left his feet. And a direct hit to the head.

Just looked it up. This was a crackback block. Now, it used to be, crackback blocks were only illegal if the contact was below the waist. They added to the rule, and now crackback blocks are illegal if below the waist, AND also:

Doesn't appear to be an illegal launch because Landry doesn't use his helmet. You're allowed to leave the feet if you don't use your helmet.

But the first one, says using any part of your body to hit their head. And Landry clearly hits his head. And the player is a defenseless player because this is a crack back.

He didn't have to do that to effectively block williams out of the play. i don't think it was malicious, just not a wise decision on landry's part. good to hear williams was able to fly home with the team.

Wanna say a small receiver tried to make a play for his team against a guy that has to have 75-100 lbs on him. He didnt launch in to the head but he may have been able to do iy better but we're talk split seconds to make a choice

I still think Landry isn't 100% comfortable, yet, with the blocking required of him. I think he's conscious of that, and that's he's a smaller guy and so rather than block badly he went over the top. If I remember rightly he also did a poor job on a block last week - if so that might have been running around his brain.

Sucks for him but the hit wasn't dirty...maybe if he kept his head up and was aware he wouldn't be lit up like that. Some people are just weak.

Jarvis has to realize that both and OBJ are being looked at by the refs. He needs to keep some of that energy inside

I agree the block could have been accomplished in another way. If he just bumps into him it takes the defender out of the play.

I didn't think he hit Williams' head. The back view looks like Landry made all contact with Williams' right shoulder.

Head on a swivel. Great block. The safety has to be a little more aware there.

We're reacting to the injury of course but even if Williams' wasn't injured, you'd still have witnessed a player risk another's career for what? Nothing. That's the point.

"Blowing people up" when they're moving in your direction but watching something else is not exactly high sport. It's a shadowy corner of the game that player's shouldn't feel compelled to visit and fan's shouldn't cheer for. It's the equivalent of sucker punching your enemy. There's ZERO glory in that.

There's just no reason to do that to a guy, period. The fact it doesn't always cause injury (thank God) relieves some pressure but it often will, as we saw today.

Just a stupid, unnecessary play that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with playing good football. It's all about being macho. Again, F that.

as the play was unfolding and I saw what Landry was going to do, I was thinking that is just cheap. I would certainly not want any body hitting any of our guys like that.

I take back my original statement on it being a legal hit. It appears on these rules that is was an illegal hit. I do still think it was not a dirty hit however.

    Nope...and nope.

At the most he crouched in a brace-like manner and then uncoiled on Williams. And Landry's shoulder hit Williams right in the chest. Great block and as I mentioned earlier, if Williams had just fell to the ground and bounced back up, no flag would have been thrown.

    The rule states: (verbatim)

Not a blindside when the person is hit square int he chest.

    (bold is mine)

You need aggressive blocking if you want to continue and have a run game. Personally I don't think he intended to take him out of the game so much as to take him out of the play. But if you pay attention to some of the hits he was taking in the game he was returning the favor.

Yeah, aside from whether or not the hit was legal, his conduct is slowly becoming a distraction and will ultimately cost the team
. Enough w/ the BS after catching a 1st down. Just shut up and get back to the huddle.

I was thinking the same thing. Barry Sanders used to say, "act like you have done it before." Landry needs to do that, not every catch he makes is the greatest catch ever.

    Ok, I just want to get this straight, after watching that vid what you are saying is;

Landry did NOT leave his feet, and did NOT hit the S in the head.

I mean that's correct right? That is what you are saying? right?

It's textbook illegal since 2012 folks. Argue all you want but you'll be absolutely wrong. You can't launch (and we've seen pictures that show both feet left the ground) and hit in the neck/head area with your shoulder/helmet.

And for those not calling it dirty. I seem to recall 99% of you howling at the Chamber's hit where he was never the same again.

This is a textbook "Hines Ward rule"(2009) play, as a blindside blocker you cannot hit a defender in the head or neck area with your helmet, forearm, shoulder, open and shut.

And in the NFL rules now. Landry's hit is equivalent to this hit. The second you launch yourself nothing else matters if you make contact with the neck/head area.

The back view of the play, shown on nfl.com, looks pretty clear that Landry hit Williams in the shoulder and chest, not the head or neck.

There's no place for it. Just another example of the issue "upstairs" with Landry.

Some of the fake tough guy sentiment around here is funny though. Like you said, if it were one of our own, they would be raising hell.

You can clearly see his head getting snapped back. If his head was never touched, it wouldn't snap back at contact (actually it would to the opposite, and snap forward)

The fact that that block is considered illegal is one of the reasons ratings are tanking!

Yah cause we need to see more older players dying way too young from hits they took. Or barely being able to function. Grow up!

He hits him first in the body area but slides up and gets him in the head. That's a natural result of targeting high and leaving your feet.
