It seems I was wrong. I thought Tannehill would look better this year. I thought he'd break the pocket on his own, and scramble, instead of standing there taking sacks. I thought he'd just look more decisive.

I still believe that many of the criticisms of him have been unfair. I still realize that he's a product of his environment...but I'm coming around that we need better than that. We need a QB who scrambles, and makes plays happen, or at least tries to make plays happen.

    Let the ****storm begin.

Nobody should apologize for voicing their opinion. Everyone is wrong most of the time, particularly when it comes to a team they root for.

I'm with man. I legit think the crap o-line eventually just killed any type of hope of him being the QB we fans hoped he could be. Now, the QB I think that fit the traits you described is Deshone Kizer. I think he's legit the top QB this draft and so he's a top 5 pick based on how bad the QB class is this year. So, I'm going hope we somehow get him.

There shouldn't be a ****-storm. We, as fans, have been beaten down long enough by our own team to the point where fans shouldn't be beating on each other anymore.

IMO, the magnifying glass needs turned on Grier and Tannenbaum. This roster is thinner than the wings of the flies surrounding this pile of poop.

Good to admit when you're wrong (shows integrity), but the people that should really be publicly apologizing are those with the power to change this situation, especially Ross.

Which one do you pick as a starting corner? A guy who came off a bad year on an inflated contract who got benched for effort a week prior? Maybe the guy who is two years removed from playing a WR his college career? Or a rookie? (Full disclosure; it looks like Xavien Howard can hang in the NFL. It sucks he got hurt.)

Who are our starting linebackers? Consummately injured, no contingency plans. NO identity, which is the biggest crime of all, no mean streak. Always catching tailbacks instead of striking them.

How about that offensive line, guys? Many fans made the joke before the year, "Why is Dallas Thomas still on the roster?". I'll forgive them for Ja'Wuan James, I don't think anyone projected he'd be stinking up the joint as bad as he hascthis year. The inability to find a home for Billy Turner, couple with the fact that he just does not appear to be that good, led to the multiple frustrating sacks today. But why are they playing? They were *** last year, and they're *** this year. Why would their yellowness change from one year to the next? They don't belong on an NFL team with how they're playing right now.

The QB has been officially Carr'd (the bad one) and is not equipped to make-up for the deficiencies of his teammates because he just isn't that special, and offers no hope of optimism. Just sad. The team will get healthier and eke out some wins, I'm sure. But do these guys inspire anything but doubt in us fans? Why do we have our future tied up in players that never have and never will get it done?

Charles Clay develops obvious chemistry with Tannehill and we let him walk for a guy that has been nursing repeated concussions his whole career. Like what? 20/20 hindsight but these are gambles other teams didn't make and they're better off for it.

    Horribly frustrating. The true ****-show.

I have been watching the Cowboy game and it is quickly apparent that Prescott has more awareness in the pocket as a rookie than Tannehill has after over four years in the league.

Before anyone tells me that is because the Cowboys have a great OL. They have the same OL they had last year and they finished with a worse record than the Dolphins because the backup QB's they had were terrible.

I would trade Trannehill for Prescott and not think twice about it. Unfortunately, the Cowboys would NEVER make that trade.

No need to apologize resnor. Everyone has an opinion and they're entitled to it. We may see Ryan end up elsewhere and be the player everyone, including yourself thought he could be.

Sadly though, there's to many people here too concerned with being right and proving people wrong. Even though they aren't really right. They're just taking the easy approach of being negative because the odds are more in favor of a qb not being good, than being elite. So, it takes alot to mercilessly defend a guy. There's nothing wrong with it.

You definitely defended Ryan Tannehill more than anyone on this site IMO. You're the quintessential "apologist" LOL. I don't take terms like that seriously, so I'm joking there, but you're the one name that I think of when I envision the guys who always stood up for Ryan.

And don't feel alone, Res. Everybody hopped off the bandwagon AT SOME POINT in the last...oh...I'd say 2 years. Somewhere in the last 2 years we all went through the same thing and the vast majority of us were holding out a LOT of hope for this season so really, 90% of this forum are getting off the bandwagon together, LOL.

But here's the lesson for you Res, you defended him more often than anyone else. He never did enough to warrant the shear volume of posts that you made. I committed the same foul with Ted Ginn Jr. I spent at least 2 years arguing that all he needed was someone opposite him taking away the coverage. "He's not a #1 but if you make him a #2 or #3 he'll be a real weapon...blah, blah, blah."

So always keep in mind that if it takes you 1000 posts to try and defend someone...they probably suck, LOL. I tried to stop discussing Ryan and his play altogether at the end of last year. For me, this year was a "wait and see what happens." I say that for both Tannehill and Gase so I'm not committed to him either. If he gets ****-canned at the end, so be it. He's proved nothing as a coach in the NFL that is in any way attributable to him alone.

So, anyhow, I'm glad I caught this in the rant thread. I think this Rant forum might be the best f'ing forum on this site going forward!!! :)

I have been saying the same thing for at least three years. Unfortunately you can't force an owner to sell a team simply because he is incompetent as an owner. I too fear that as long as Ross is the owner of the Dolphins, we Dolphin fans will continue to suffer with mediocre football at best and downright awful football for several more years to come.

That would be my solution too, but unfortunately I am a little more than a billion and a half dollars short. I can come up with a couple of million if Ross wants to give me a long term long, but I'm sure there are many richer individuals who actually live in South Florida which can come up with the money Ross would be looking for if he decided to sell.

I have always thought one of the problems with Ross owning the team is that he lives in New York the majority of the time and therefore he isn't involved with the team as much as someone like Robbie was. That and the fact he has done a terrible job of hiring the right people in the front office to run the football operations in his absence.

If he hired a qualified head of football operations, he could move to Mars as far as I am concerned.

My main problem with Ross is his inability to hire competent football people to run the football side of this business. I appreciate that he is willing to spend a lot of money on free agents, but the individuals making the personnel decisions for this team suck and that is where my problem with Ross really is.

He seemed to realize he needs that football guy when he brought Tannenbaum in. However, if Tannenbaum proves to NOT be the right guy, I have no clue who Ross would look at next... more importantly, who would be his football-knowledgeable advisor in the selection process??

I agree. I think he went to Tannebaum because they were both in New York and he became friendly with Tannebaum. Since most of his time is spent on his real estate empire, I don't know if he actually spends much time with any knowledgeable football people on a regular basis.

It appears he is friendly with the Jets owner and based on the Jets record in recent years, that probably isn't the best team to be getting ideas from on who to hire to run you football organization. Especially after he fired Tannebaum.

I would love to see him bring in Tom Coughlin and let him run the front office as head of football operations. He certainly knows what is needed to build a good football team and his vast knowledge as a long time head coach could benefit Gase, IMO.

Coughlin coached in New York, so Ross may actually know him. I have no idea if Coughlin would even have any interest in a job like this or if he would be effective or not. All I do know is that he certainly can't be worse than Tannebaum in that position and he just might be great at it.

No offense, but most football fans are stupid. Just look at a full stadium chanting for Moore to play today, when he's about half as mobile as Tannehill and one good hit away from retirement. Putting him in the game today would have essentially been saying goodbye to him. I LOVE watching Moore and I'm a huge fan, so I'm very glad he stayed on the bench with the blocking we saw today.

By my count, Tannehill got leveled today 12 times by an untouched defender.....and five of those instances came from the interior WITHOUT a blitz called. That meant there were enough bodies to keep our boy upright and it's basic pee-wee league fundamentals to block down on pass plays, yet we couldn't grasp the concept at all. Despite Tannehill's shortcomings, these 12 negative plays (including 1 interception) have nothing to do with #17. Any QB would have been leveled there because we never set even a basic pocket.

If you don't believe me, just take a look at Cam Newton this season after being one of the best escape artists in the league by a wide margin in 2015. He's not escaping because there's not enough time to even see someone barreling down on your blindside, much less tuck the ball and run. The vast majority of the hits on Tannehill today happened around the 2 second mark. That's not playing football folks, it's a game called "Kill the Man with the Ball." And somehow Tannehill won- they didn't kill him despite our offensive line's best efforts to let them.

Could RT do better against the rush? Definitely. But he was nowhere near the biggest problem on offense this season. I don't think he's even in the top 5. The good news, however, is that the fix is simple- start trading for some damn linemen and get the current line coaches out of there. There is zero excuse for that level of incompetence at the NFL level, and that's coming from a person who had aspirations of going pro as an OG. I was too small and it didn't happen, but still....today was about as bad as it gets for a squad. If I'm the coach, I wouldn't stop cussing this entire week.

I'm going to clarify something...I'm apologizing for arguing with posters (who I believe were still almost all wrong), about things that seemed to have turned out to be moot, because Tannehill seems to not be going to be what we need. I still believe that most of the arguments and criticisms leveled were false and hypocrisy ran rampant among those constantly criticizing Tannehill.

Really, this thread is for DJ, who has maintained all along that Tannehill isn't dynamic enough.

Dynamic and instinctive to be honest. His arm talent should never be questioned. He simply lacked things that are hard to teach and had no good teachers to develop him.

He didn't ask to be drafted in the top 10 despite being a project.
He didn't ask to be groomed by inept coaches
He didn't ask to have subpar protection

Make no mistake, he was afforded no favors in Miami. That being said the product on the field with him is the product on the field. I maintain that Im rooting for him to goto KC next season with Andy Reid, he can save RT.

these boards are going to be funny next year when tannehill is still the strater. Gase isnt going to get fired and he thinks tannehill is the least of our problems. i think its 50/50 right now that we draft another olineman next year with our first pick. And Chris Foerster will be fired. he may even get fired this season. its a lot easier building an effective oline than it is finding the next top ten QB (OUTSIDE OF MIAMI THAT IS)

I have no idea how you can assume Gase is happy with Tannehill as his starter. I believe he has no other real option at this time, so he is stuck with Tannehill for at least the next 12 games.

Perhaps Tannehill will suddenly see the light and take that giant step up as a QB in the NFL and Gase will be happy to have him back next year. Yet since it is obvious the Dolphins are headed into a major rebuilding process, I can't imagine hey will want to be paying their QB over $20 million dollars next year if Gase has decided he is not in their long term future.

As far as drafting another offensive lineman in the first round of the draft is concerned. While the OL still certainly needs upgrading, the defense is in far worse shape overall. They need to take the best available defensive player on the board when they select in the first round if they decide not to take a QB.

A bad Titans team moved the ball all over the field today against perhaps the worst defense in the NFL. So they need to rebuild this defense starting in the draft and avoid taking another offensive lineman before at least the third round.

Incredibly frustrating that the Dolphins put a ton of resources into our O-Line and they are still a god forsaken mess. Albert and Pouncey are far too injury prone to count on, especially at the price tag they both carry. Ju'Wuan James was a heck of a reach in the 1st round, that is not debatable. That all goes without saying that we have very little usable depth on the line, I see other teams plug in guys and get average production, we have to plug in guys and it is an abject disaster. Ryan Tannehill is not the answer at QB because he has zero intangible pluses except for toughness, but maybe just maybe if the line wouldn't be getting him killed every week he could develop into this system.

Looking at what Dallas has done in one offseason is just downright cruel. They lucked into a 4th Round QB who looks to be their franchise QB for the next decade, they add a STUD RB by hitting on their Top-5 pick, and they built up a brick wall O-Line by picking guys to fit their system, and have been lucky that those guys have lived up to their draft status and stayed healthy. Everyone laughs at Jerry Jones but I would take that clown over Stephen Ross everyday and twice on Sundays, he has finally surrounded himself with football people and it looks to be paying off. Stephen Ross puts Tannenbaum in charge and all that clown has done is throw 100 million at Suh while helping surround him with the worst defense in football. He hands out a big money extension to an average quarterback while not giving him a decent running back to rely on or an offensive line that can keep him upright. Tannenbaum is the worst team builder in football and he should've never sniffed another front office job after turning the Jets into a dumpster fire, but our inept owner is too busy flying to and from NY to realize it...

I feel bad for Ryan. The team did him no favors and at this point I think he just needs a fresh start. He looks shell-shocked and broken to an extent. He may never be a top 10 quarterback but he deserves better. He gets his *** kicked game in and game out, and somehow is still standing at the end of the day. Every single time. He had a teammate's wife trash him publicly and had a coaching staff that didn't support him, and he still kept going. He's tough and he's classy and he's likable and he deserves to go to a team that can save him. I just don't think that will happen here anymore, unfortunately. If he doesn't end up on a division rival, I will surely be rooting for him to find success. He deserves it.

I get the sentiment but this dude is rich beyond our wildest dreams and has had the keys to the kingdom for going on 5 years with virtually no competition whatsoever. By the end of this year he'll have played 80 games with nobody but Matt Moore to push him for his job. To his credit, it was he who put himself in a position to be drafted but once here, he's essentially failed to evolve.

In 4+ years he's been unspectacular in a role which requires the spectacular.

Him deserving something has to do with the image you have of him in your head--which a lot of us admittedly share. But this isn't life. It's football. And like I said, he's been unspectacular in a role which requires the spectacular. He earned a second contract and most would agree that was more than fair for a prospect of his caliber.

There comes a time when you can't blame anyone but yourself. If you've consistently been ______ in the NFL for 5 years, it's unlikely you are better or worse than you look. It's unlikely you're a product of good or bad coaching. You can't stifle a good player that long. You can't fool the world with a bad one. That narrative ended at least a year ago with regard to Ryan Tannehill.

Would he have been different elsewhere? We can't say and it's pointless to argue without knowing the exact effects of other coaches. IMO, he probably would be largely the same given how far he is from being great and how he seems to lack the instincts better QBs have.

So going forward he'll be no different anywhere else because he is who he is. Good dude. Solid player.

Thank you Ryan. We all appreciate the effort you gave. You will live a long and happy life while we continue to pull for this God-awful team.

    NEXT!
