Draft Picks to Move Up to Take Leonte Carroo... Short-sightedness

I agree. The truth is good front offices do things like trade Cameron Wake while he still has value for additional draft picks. I love Cam, but he's no longer a part of this organizations future when thinking of rebuilding and long term playoff success. If I were the front office people, I would look to trade guys that are long in the tooth and try to get some draft picks.

Getting rid of two draft picks to move up in the draft like they did for Carroo, was just plain stupid.

 

I don't think anyone was praising the Caroo trade when it happened.

In fact, I think we gave up more to get Caroo than Jax gave up to draft Myles Jack.

So we could have had two 3s, and two 4s, but don't.

 

That's why the Dolphins traded their selection in the 4th round pick contingent upon their award of a 4th round compensatory pick. If we are awarded a compensatory selection in round 4, then that is what the Vikings get, not our natural selection.

So if we get awarded a 3rd and 4th compensatory, we will have the 3rd round compensatory and our natural 4th.

 

You could look at our drafting as a case study of how to destroy your team. Just think about all the resources we've invest in our OL, WR and QB in the top 3 rounds and how bad our offense still sucks! In the last 6 years, 11 picks in those rounds. Pretty disgusting.

 

Well, I for one am LOVING what Carroo is doing so far.

It's too early to say this is a bad trade. It might end up that way but we wont know till next year. The guy has glue for hands. What we need is a receiver who can run precise routes and get open on a regular basis. Maybe he's the guy, maybe he's not. We'll know next year. Personally I think they drafted him to replace Rishard Matthews

 

Miller's deal would generate a borderline 4th or 5th comp pick, won't know until the year is over.

 

Leonte Caroo was absolutely waste of a pick and one better spent at another position.

 

He is not even getting the field that i know of, but he could be a player. Do not like the trade up though.

 

We already had Parker, Landry, and Stills (even though he came off a bad year). They doubled down on the position again with Caroo and Grant, which is abominable given our needs at other positions.

 

Carroo, #88 right? He was the guy Tannehill was targeting but had the ball intercepted late in the game at Cincinnati. The guy who was scouted as being a "faster Anquan Boldin"? Yeah, you're nitpicking because you have no patience. That's not a bad thing. Brian Billick would always say, "it's a desperate man's game." It's good to have a sense of urgency, but look at the forest once in a while. First time, first year head coach and Tannenbaum was actually frugal in the offseason.

I'm guessing you were up this kid's *** and predicting he would replace Stills, so you've got nothing left to do than make this a personal conversation.

My opinion as stated (READ TRAVIS READ!) was it's a bad pick based on other more important needs, especially since Grant was also drafted.

At least a guy like ODB contributed something right from the start (both guys for that matter), but still assinine to even mention Leonte in the same breath as them as this stage.

A thousand times this! That was indeed an unnecessary trade b/c at this rate by season's end I would give Stills a good, not great contract. Caroo may become a good wr but I agree w/Garden, Jack should've been the trade target at that cost. The only saving grace is the fact that once we get the comp picks(tradeable in '17) we'll be able to maneuver.

 

Odell didn't contribute from the start, he is literally statless for the first four Giants games of his rookie year.

 

By the way, can anyone provide evidence that the picks we moved would result in players who would be seeing more playing time currently? I ask as just about everyone appears to be operating on the belief that substituting the players we drafted for other unnamed players is a guarantee. It's not.

Also the belief that next years picks are somehow more valuable is IMHO a falsehood. The notion that this would happen year on year is in and of it's self is proof that something isn't quite right. Look through the history of the draft and there oodles of drafts where the next year was absolute **** compared to the year before. Who says the wide receiver class would be this deep again this year?

As for the thread, We'll be happy with Carroo. Great hands, great size, he's going to be good.

 

What makes you think they would have drafted Prescott? According to the org they were happy with Thill as their future and still could be. This isnt even hind sight, its pure speculation at this point because the draft picks are developing like most rookies do. Honestly i did not like the Carroo pick but i am not short sighted enough to assume he isn't worth the pick or that we could have had someone better with the picks used to move up to get him.

The knee jerk reaction is to criticize everything when expectations aren't met so when they are over critical those that are criticizing can say "i hope i am wrong" or "well I am happily wrong" and save face, and considering most picks don't pan out odds are in the favor of the critics.

we are talking a very young team with a new coach and system....at least give it a season or two.

 

Dallas was very comfortable with Romo and still drafted Dak, to compete for the back up position and develop.

We triple down and gave up a lot of assets for what I think most would agree is our strongest position. I'm not writing his career off, but I didn't like the move then and I don't like it now.

I have to agree totally with this. Especially considering the neglect we have given to the LB corps over the last 4 years. We had precisely 0 proven reliable NFL calibre LBs on our roster - Alonso and Misi were injury risks, Jenkins and the others haven't proven they are above replacement level. The only position it made sense to trade up for was LB and that boat had passed us by in Jack.

 

I personally think they drafted him to replace Matthews. Shoulda just signed Matthews.

 

They guy we shoulda got was TE Higbee, that dude is going to be a stud for the Rams. He is already playing a lot as a blocking TE for them.

 

I like Caroo, I hated the trade, way too much to give up, hopefully he turns out to be a stud, and the trade won't mean much, but regardless, it was a bad trade.

I wanted to draft Prescott in the Drake spot, then when they were trading later in the round I got excited that they were going to draft Prescott, damn I wish we had drafted Prescott...

I would love to have Sims and Higbee on the same team, nice blocking/receiving combo, as in both can block and catch.

 

Yea the week I dropped him in fantasy because he didn't play because of hamsting he scores a td his first game.

 

The problem with Carroo isn't whether he will be good or not. But a 2 for Landry, then a 1 for Parker, and a 3 and a 4 for Carroo. That's a lot of valuable picks for an overrated position.
