http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/dolphins/2008-08-10-pennington_N.htm Henne, who is impressive in his arm strength and poise, seems to be unfazed by Pennington's arrival. "You can't be affected by it. It's business," he says. "It will be a good opportunity to learn from him." That is a great comment by Henne. I liked what I saw from in the first game. Hopefully he picks Pennington brain, and can pick up some good qualities from him as well.
Whether or not he's embraced as a Fin, I can't imagine Pennington NOT being our starter on opening day. Me, I've got no problem with it. I think he's the best passer we've had in a Fins uniform for a l-o-n-g time. I'm also thinking that our WRs are going to look better. As for Henne; I'm beginning to think that he's the future, and not John Beck. Henne really was impressive the other night.
The one thing I see in Henne we haven't had since Dan is a QB with balls. He's not afraid of competition and doesn't let it rattle him and he's not afraid to get out there and sling it around. He is also a perfectionist and is his own worst critic. There is a fire within him that drives him to compete and it is exciting to think he could turn into something. In no way am I saying he's the next Dan, but I like his composure, his fire to compete and the swagger he carries himself with and it's a sight for sore eyes to us QB starved Dolfans.
First of all, there has to be some desire for revenge deep within Chad. You dont think he'd be happy as hell to show his old team up? Secondly: This has to be the saddest line graph in the history of line graphs:
From what I've read on the net today, it sounds like the team, especially the younger guys, are really excited to have Chad P. down there. He's got a lot of experience that hopefully they can learn from. He'll been playing catch-up, but I think he's probably the best guy for the starting job right now. Let him play, and let the newer qb's watch and learn for awhile.
Well said. Thanks for the link FFIC - that was a nice comment by Henne; I like what that kid's made of even if he is a Wolverine. I was pretty impressed by him in the preseason game.
Crazy how 2 Chads are fighting for the starting spot in Miami, and 2 Bretts are fighting for the spot in NY,
Pennington signed a two year, $8 million deal with incentives up to $11.5 million, he doesn't have to win anything. The job is his until he gets hurt.
Yea he does not have to win any thing but I wish he did. I think just because Chad Pennington came in does not mean we should throw away our qb competition.
I don't think we have throw it away, but the guy came in and in one day "from what ever one is saying "" took the job. The vets and the news guys seem to love this guy.I always liked him.
you mean a flat line? without a doubt, pennington is gonna win the job right? i also like what camp blogs have said about his 1st practice.
It sounds like it will be: 1. Pennington 2. Henne 3. Beck 4. McCown I can't see us keeping FOUR quarterbacks on the roster. Start Pennington, and let Henne and Beck learn and mature. It seems like Chad always has had good games against us, accurate thows, nothing spectacular, but he gives his team a chance to win. I think nothing would be sweeter than shutting up the Jet's fans and Favre with a opening win against them.
It appears the fan base and media has anointed Pennington as the starter...and I'm in that group also, but his injury history cannot be overlooked. Someone during this coming season will have to come in for him at some point, given his history...This is what all the QB discussion is really about. I think that is what Tunaland and Sparano are losing sleep over now...None of the other three have stood out with Henne a slight favorite in the one game we've had, followed by Beck and then McCown. None of us have seen every practice to determine a body of work of these guys. It appears close to either Beck or Henne from the accounts that we have access to, reading between the obvious Henne bias from the local media. What scares me somewhat is that while everyone seems to be down on McCown, what does his real body of work say ?? We don't know that. Based on what we've seen from McCown over the last 5 yrs, I hope we don't get to see anything from him other than him waving bye-bye to South Florida. It's the same issue this team has had for better than 8 yrs now...Who is going to be our QB ??
Nevery under estimate the importance of your back up QB. We may indeed keep 4 QB's on the roster just because of this. Gives you more options. That is also another reason that I think, both Henne and Beck are the keepers and McCown, if one is let go at the end of preseason or some time during the season, is the odd man out. They have more upside and are probably more coachable in the fact that McCown has probably gotten as good as he will be.
this doesn't really have anything to do with the conversation at hand, but i think Henne looks better right now than Beck did this time last year... and he's doing it with worse receivers than Beck had last year. this is not a knock on Beck as much as it's a resounding vote of confidence for Henne.
At this point, Pennington now and Henne later seems to make the most sense for us as a franchise. Trading John Beck could also help move us in the right direction if a team has someone go down and perhaps we could get our 2nd rounder back for him and have three 2nd rounders next draft.
I started respecting CP when he dressed the New York Press down, when they were camped on his butt about performance and arm strength. He has the bollocks to defend his good name when it is called into question. He also has the tools to run this offense.
I cracked up when he glared at them and said.. I'm a media major you know.. I know what you are doing... or sumpin' like that..
It should be this, but who knows if it will... We're talking about the guys who cut a top kicker for rookie out of Montana....
Maybe, but there is absolutely no way that he would not start opening day unless he got injured wich is a possibility I hope he starts now, but I dont want him to start next year, I want someone who will be the starter for the next 6 years and that cant be Chad
chad will be the starter for 2 years, then when his contract is up henne will take over...i'm the only that see's this? if henne continues to look good we should trade beck to get something back..i hope our depth chart is 1. pennington 2. mccown 3. henne
