Don't think so, hard to say that Feely did anything wrong here. Poor timed injury + a hot rookie kicker + a big contract and it all added up.
Yeah you are probably right, and I am looking too much into it. Just perculiar that they would do it after the first preseason game and we do have a roster spot open (I think) if we wanted to sign someone else.
I saw this coming. Dan Carpenter has been so money and after nailing those two kicks in the preseason game this is not a surprise (to me).
I am somewhat surprised to be honest. I know PArcells and his history with kickers, so it stands to reason that Sparano would feel the same way, but Feely was pretty much the lone bright spot last year on a horrid team. I would have figured that he earned the right to compete for his job. I guess not. I wish him nothing but the best.
I think the lone bright spot on last years team was Ronnie until he got hurt. Now Feeley is hurt, and just like they did with Kevin Smith, he gets cut.
Surprising it happened with a roster spot still available and only 1 preseason game done. I thought it would of happened later.
Somewhat surprising. I didn't expect a kicker with a high percentage of kicks made to be cut but it seemed to all fall apart for Feely. He's got the contract and the injury while Carpenter has a small contract and proved to make big kicks (i.e. 41 and 49 versus TB). Boomer pointed out in the Club Level that Carpenter missed 6 PAT's in college. That brings up the question, can he make the big time kicks? If your missing PAT's left and right, can you make it in 'crunchtime'?
In this article from yahoo it says :"Feely made 21 of 23 field goals last season, one of the few bright spots on the 1-15 Dolphins. But his outspoken nature often clashed with the new Bill Parcells-led regime, which has overhauled the roster with younger players." I've never heard anything about that before. yahoo link http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-dolphins-feelycut&prov=ap&type=lgns
Que? THere were a lot of postson this topic, here and on the old forum. Lots of us, including me, says Parcells already doesn't like kickers. And he hates outspoken players as well. Now if you combine the two, you're as good as gone. Remember his comments re:taking back ricky. He said the lockerroom wouldn't have it. Undermined his coach and FO. Think Parcells doesn't notice something like that? He had a comment for every situation regarding the team. Some give him a pass becauase he's the player's rep. Players rep speak to the union, not the press.
Good question, but sometimes all kickers may need are adjustments to their mechanics. Brandon Fields is a case in point.
This is foolish After one game ? You are gonna hand off to this guy based on one pre-season game ? Totally foolish.
well there were rumblings that they weren't to happy with his openess to the media from what I recall. I'm sure that played a part as well.
True but to do this and just give the job to Carpenter is not keeping with the theme of this year's camp, which was supposed to be thick with competition. I don't see how you just boot out the guy who set a team record for accuracy in one season. This may really hurt this team more than anything this year.
well judging by what is going on with the qb situation as well I think it is safe to say that is slowly becoming a myth ..............
Again, we just haven't seen that yet. He was 0-3 on touchbacks last Saturday, with about a 60 yard average. That means his kickoffs got to about the 10 yard line.
How come we did not trade him. How come we did not trade Jay Feely? He say there are a lot of teams interested in him. We coul have got a mid round drat choice for him. Like a 5th or 6th round draft choice.
Keyword: "He says". And it'd be foolhardy to trade a 5th or 6th for a kicker. You might as well wait a bit and see who gets cut from our roster. EDIT: Well, there you go, he's been cut.
