In the presser today, Gase said his biggest regret on offense was ignoring Tannehill's recommendations on play selection until the final drive. He credited Tannehill's suggestions for the TD. Anyone have any insight as to what changes took place? Actually kind of awesome for a head coach to publicly vouch for his qb at his own expense like that...
Without going into great detail, I think Gase may have over-thought what he was doing in terms of play-calling. Tannehill likes curls, outs and things like that which can be used quite well to defeat what the Seahawks generally do. I think Gase may have figured they'd be expecting it and thus avoided the "obvious." In this case, I think Adam Gase made the adjustment too late. I think the game-plan was a little overly complex and the kind of meat-and-potatoes stuff Tannehill's always been pretty good at probably would've been a better place to start. I think it's a learning experience for sure.
I have a feeling gase will have adjustments made for next week. At least gase realizes what went wrong. With philbin, it would have taken a month for him to acknowledge something was not working.
What I read between the lines was that Tanny was lobbying to go to those plays earlier but that the short stuff set up the bigger plays. So the plan was to utilize the deeper stuff, but Gase held off too long waiting until he was convinced Seattle was not going to get out of the close defense.
I don't read too much into it. I do find it very encouraging that he said this though. The best coaches generally try to take pressure off of their players Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
Going into this season i have been keeping my optimism tempered. Ive grown tired of feeling like charlie brown as lucy pulls the football away. Im still in that mind set but i did see things i liked on sunday. Gase looks like me is building in a positive direction so far. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
Not just beat what the Seahawks do well, but also those are the things Tanny does well. Throw to a spot.
Hard to get too excited with anything to do with offense when we got 10 stinking points. I get it was against the Seahawks but it was 10 points.
