Good post. And I readily acknowledge that this team is rebuilding and I think the future, and lets emphasize FUTURE, is going to be bright in Miami. But I don't think it happens this year.

But you know, I've been wrong before. Only once or twice, but its happened. :wink2: And I would love to be wrong again.

But if we do have to be 1-15 again, I sure pray to God in heaven that the one win could be against the Jets in week 1. That would be the sweetest thing ever. :hi5:

I have to agree with this. This is a team that is in overhaul. The roster will continue to change until all the parts are in place.

I certainly don't see where there is any controversy. Unless of course people believe what they saw last night was the final roster.

Here's the reason I'm optimistic about the future, if not so much this year: look at this year's draft class. Long is looking as good, if not better, than most people thought. And Thomas is looking like a front runner for a guard spot. Merling and Langford look like solid additions and possibly eventual starters on D. And Henne is looking better than you'd expect a rookie QB, even under pressure. Add in a couple late rookie grabs like Bess, and I have to feel good about our personnel braintrust's ability to build with youth, which is the key to our future. We all know the road will be rocky this year, but I'm feeling more optimistic about our future than I have in a while.

One man's "being realistic" is another man's "overreaction". I think there is huge difference between scouring the cut lists looking for upgrades and and a lot of new players coming in within the next few weeks. And I don't think you are being "flamed" fo having a different opinion or not thinking highly of the Dolphins. I think the criticism comes from being a little too "Chicken Little" for most people's taste. But that's just my opinion.

    Chicken Little?

Uh, BigBucks24, in case you didn't get the memo...the sky isn't falling in Miami--it already fell.

Do you not remember going 1-15 last year? Its not because we had all this talent just sitting around waiting for a rainy day.

You originally said that if I posted in the "extreme" (as if we weren't extremely bad already) that I "should expect to be flamed". I was flamed. Now its because I was " a little to Chicken Little".

So which is it? Should one expect to be flamed for being extremely honest, or just a little to honest? :wink2:

Hopefully, people will accept whatever the opinions are of others (esp when they are so obviously grounded in facts) and not flame anyone. Lets just accept that on a board as diverse as this one, sometimes we are going to have to agree to disagree. :hi5:

I love a great debate. We all love this team and want it to be a winner. It will be again. Patience is key. We had about 7 years of acquiring horrible talent. It will not be fixed overnight. The sky fell last year. This year the clouds are parting and the sun may not come out in full bloom this year, but it'll be here again.

Sun...a little early for the "sky is falling" routine. Sure, we'll see some guys cut and some brought in, but is it a real surprise ?? This is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately league, no doubt, but the first preseason game is even a little quick for that...

Uh. Larry, you might want to reread the posts here, my friend.

Bigbucks24 is the one who brought up the sky is falling and chicken little.

As I said (and I honestly don't know how you missed it unless you just did not even attempt to read my post) the sky isn't falling now. When you go 1-15, the sky has already fallen.

If you want to go back and correct your mistake on that, I'll be happy to entertain any point you have to make, but right now, I don't even know what to say to you. Unless you meant to address the post to Bigbucks in the first place, then it would make sense. Otherwise....:confused1:

That's going to be the question though- Do they really believe some of those young players will develop into quality NFL guys??

Sparano has already said he expects a lot of turnover with the bottom part of the roster, and Saturday's game may have indicated the issue may not entirely be youth but talent.

SCFF isn't far off- The depth on the offensive line, especially at Tackle, is terrible. The linebackers aren't much more than servicable, for the most part. And there are plenty of questions at WR that can't be answered by simply stating that the youth needs to develop.

It would not surprise me if Terry Glenn gets a call very soon. The WR starters seem to be set, but the job for 3rd definitely is not.

LeCharles Bentley also may yet get a call.

Depth at OL seems, in fact abysmal, at this point. Still, most are here with the thought that they're going to develop.
Ndukwe, Spanos, Byrne, and Heerspink are all UDFA acquisitions. Then of course we also have Thomas and Murphy ( not to mention Long). Do "they" expect them all to develop??? I can't say what their thinking is for sure.
Is their thinking similar to buying a crate of fresh fruit? You buy the whole thing knowing that you're going to find a few that you have to throw out, you just don't know ahead of time how many. Or maybe they do in fact expect them all to develop - some into starters and the rest into serviceable back ups.
WRs - I think its fair to withhold much judgment with this group. For several years we've needed an accurate QB with good touch on the ball. AND with this same guy we've needed to allow time for him and the WRs to develop some chemistry together. Instead we've had a revolving door at this position and little continuity at WR. So it's hard to say how much talent we've had at either position. I'm curious to find out if Pennington's delivery can make a difference in the amount of dropped balls we've seen.
LBs?...yeah we need some help there. Anderson and Ayodele are the real deal, though. Serviceable? ...definitely. Pro Bowlers? ...maybe not. But lets see how they play together within the confines of our defensive system. If our coaches are good enough, then they should be able to scheme around the players' strengths; and away from weaknesses.

I think Terry Glenn would be a great help.

I think that LCB would at least be un upgrade over McKinnie who seems to be struggling.

I say "a little too Chicken Little" because I generally don't post in extremes. I was trying to explain that in my first post but guess I came up short. You can keep playing the "I'm not overreacting, I'm only telling the truth" card all you want. You are still missing the point. The point is when you post in an extreme (either positive or negative), people are going to criticize you opinion more and criticize you more. That's just the way it is. Your opinion about the state of the team (during the game or directly after the game) was a little too overreationary and "over the top". The opinion you gave today in your "The Good News" thread was much more "grounded in fact" than in emotion. It's not just beause you said good things about the Dolphins (you did criticize them), but it just wasn't "over the top".

And BTW, the sky hasn't fallen. That was last year. It's a new day my friend.

Sorry for having this debate in the middle of a thread. It probably should have been handled through PM's. I say we just move on to more important things--like convincing ourselves that Chad is going to do well. Bar keep, one more round!
