The generally feeling among most fans is that if you lost Tannehill for the season you probably wouldn't care who you had behind him because any hope of the Play-offs would essentially be out the window. Regretfully I forget who it was, but someone did bring up the fact that is not what your immediate back-up is for. The immediate back-up (Moore) is there to make sure that that if Tannehill were to go down for quarter, a half or even a game, the team wouldn't be forced to rely on relative novice to play the position. You would still have a real chance to remain competitive even without the starter so long as other guys stepped up. Any discussion of back-ups needs to include that. If Tannehill was going to be out for 1 game and you had to pick someone who gave you the best chance to win, it's hard to argue against Moore being that guy. Gase should have enough on the other two to get a sense of who's most prepared to be the long-term "project." I'd say next year Moore is someone who could wind up being cut or traded. Heck, is he still under contract next year, I don't even know.
Given our OL struggles the last few years, and the fact Dallas Thomas has yet to be cut, I'd keep Moore. I like the potential of both Dysert and Doughty, but considering they have basically zero experience, it's hard to see either of them as our backup QB if something happened to Tannehill. However, then again, Matt Moore probably wouldn't do much either if he was the backup, so it may not even matter. Either way, it's a decision that I wont be too concerned with, because we're not a team that's presently built to be able to succeed without it's starting QB, regardless on how you feel about Ryan Tannehill.
Wonder if Dallas has any interest in Moore after the Romo injury. He would provide a veteran backup to Prescott. Better than some of the other options being discussed by talking heads.
4-12. Or, if we can play together as a team on the same page across the board, and play with passion and pride, I could see us with 9 wins possibly with one game to go for a playoff spot. At home against our arch nemesis New England Patriots in week 17, on New Year's Day. A win there in that situation would silence all Ryan Tannehill critics, and possibly put him over the hump to being considered a Good NFL quarterback with a bright future, for the team and for Ryan's self confidence. I want to see him play with fire and desire this season. Just win baby.
I think we should hold off on predictions until after the first three games. Last year, we thought we go 6-0 I think going into NE, because the talk was that we weren't facing any real ab's until NE. Look how that turned out. We have to remember that each game so far in preseason and, and to some extent, camp, has improved bit by bit, except for the run game. But running is so essential to this team, maybe they are vanilla on this. the first three teams have issues too. Seattle has OL issues, NE doesn't have Brady and the Browns won't have Gordon and are going through a roster purge it seems from prior years' mistakes.
1/16th of the NFL has lost their starting QB in the last 5 days. I hope the coaches think about the '15 Cardinals. Literally they were in the playoffs with their 3rd string QB. So, I'm not going to weigh in on who we keep or not but know they should not be penny wise pound foolish with what is possibly unknowingly the second most important position on the roster...
oddly enough when we played Dallas in the preseason the announcers talked about Moore trying out for them. The guy said the player person did not sign him because he had small hands. The announcer disagreed with this and thought the Cowboys should have signed Moore. I think that personal guy is now gone.
If we are supposedly a 6-10 team with Tannehill, and he goes down, I would rather see Doughty play the Moore. And I really like Moore .
It's a telling tale when many teams (now including Minn) are looking for good QB's and analyst are talking about Tebow and Manziel and no ones even looking at Moore.
Yeah but what do we know? Maybe they are inquiring about Moore. There are too many analysts on TV that really know no more than we do and just get paid to speculate.
