For me the biggest thing has been the defense hasn't been playing with intensity, which has been particularly noticeable in the tackling.

This can be one of two things.
    A) A genuine lack of drive and commitment. There could be many possible explanations for this.
    or
    B) The coaches wanting to keep the intensity levels down deliberately. Maybe to to avoid injuries, or to avoid tipping off what the new scheme will look like in real football situations. Certainly this defense is built around getting pressure from the front 4 and we do have some older players with injury concerns on the line, so it is plausible to me that the coaches could be keeping the intensity from the front 4 dialed back in the preseason.

If it's the former, we're in for a long hard season. if it's the latter then I have hope for the season. The only real test will be in week one. With the reports from TC being that when the front 4 were cranking up the pressure the offense couldn't move the ball I hold some hope that the defense will step up when the real football begins.

last week the fans were on suicide watch for the offense. That seems to have died down. coaches and players made an effort to fix issues. Miami has a week to now adjust the defense. not saying they can do a 180, but I am hoping they can fix something to where they can actually be respectable. it looks like this defense is still going to be bad, but anything better than last year can get us some more wins

They had a primo team and kept most of their starters on the bench. We are playing our starters on d and they look horrible.

Really? Starting an injured rookie at cb who missed tc due to injury? That's the freaking plan? Oh yes, we're screwed on D. Offense better get way used to playing from behind.

Pretty sure its "A". It's likely some portion of that is due to veterans not wanting to injure anyone or get injured in a PS game. Some portion is surely due to the older vets being too comfortable and satisified. No one is really pushing them and they're being told, "hey, we know what you can do. Go ahead and take the day off".

It does not seem many people are disturbed by this besides you. A team in training camp, implementing a new offense, getting better and more comfortable each day......very disturbing indeed. Oh, I get it, another veiled shot at our QB in a post about our defense...agenda on Roy.

This comment has inspired a little optimistic rant from me, this is a great optimistic comment, I really miss being optimistic.

Can we get back to the place where "homer" is not a derogatory term? As Dolphin fans, shouldn't we, even if we disagree, be able to recognize Dolphin love in this comment, and in that see the, yeah I'm gonna say it, beauty in that?

CitizenSnips loves the Miami Dolphins, and agree or disagree, isn't that a great thing, aren't we all Dolphin fans?

Two posters in particular have inspired me with their optimism, 7171 and Panda, I have a ton of respect for both guys, 7171 is a perfect homer, loves OUR Dolphins unconditionally, and never a cross word from him, every post from him is full of hope and optimism, and done with manners, that's just awesome.

Everybody loves Panda, the guy is out there and funny as ****, and loves OUR team with a passion, I'm envious of these guys, and other posters like Snips here, I wish I had their unbridled optimism, like I did years ago, but I am made with a very analytical brain, I can't help it, but I can enjoy and appreciate these guys comments, just for the pure love of OUR team.

I have no idea if this will work, but in an attempt to show some Dolphin love solidarity, am asking every poster who loves OUR Miami Dolphins, to thank CitizenSnips comment, #38, just thank that comment because you love OUR Dolphins.

Lots of bridges get torn down on these sites, but we rarely try to build bridges, even though we all love the same team, show your love and thank post #38.

    Thank you.

    Rant over.

The defense which started in game one didn't play well at all. Yet because none of the DL starters were in the game, the poor play of the defense was overlooked and it was assumed they would be better once the DL starters were in the game.

The fact is the Dolphins just don't have any reliable LB's on their roster. The defense they are playing is suppose to rely on the LB's to come up and make the tackle. With a below average set to of LB's and a very questionable secondary, this defense just isn't going to be very good this season.

The starting DL is relying mostly on players who are coming off serious injury or weren't productive in 2015. Other than Suh, the DL is a huge question mark and having subpar LB's and a below average secondary means this might be the worst defense the Dolphins have put on the field in decades, IMO.

When you know you need help at all 3 levels on defense and you're set to start the year with a roster that didn't get much help and is going to go through the growing pains of a new scheme, people are going to worry. It's natural. Anyhow who chooses to express that notion is only saying what we all know to be true. The truth is, this might be a real tough year.

I'll be honest, I'm worried that losses at DE are going to show. Vernon got big money, okay, but we all expected his replacement to come in the first two rounds of the draft. We didn't get anyone as it turned out. Seeing a reliable piece like Shelby walk out the door in favor of less reliable but equally expensive guys like Andre Branch is (in all fairness) something you shake your head at. Moreover, the team is now forced to pursue DE that much more aggressively next year, when LB and G are still set to be big needs.

There's no doubt that the team gambled a lot and is now relying on the new coaching to work some magic.

My biggest worry is that's how Suh and Williams will be in the regular season as well.

People also forget to take into account how much the modern training camp is scaled back from what it used to be. Practices are there to give players a chance to run through the plays they're learning but there is very little intensity compared with regular season. Players need live action for sure. A great many veterans half-*** training camp to begin with. A few guys may be able to "turn it on" week-1, but that's a few, not nearly everyone.

*shrugs* I know we're pretty used to players getting drafted on defense and never playing well, but hey, it's got to happen sometime.

Well when it's only 5th round/UDFA rookies pushing the vets I don't expect the vets to be quaking in their cleats about the prospect of not being the starter.

I love the appreciation of optimism. I hate how jaded I have become as a fan. The Dolphins are my favorite thing in the sports world and everyone that knows me CLEARLY knows I'm a Phins fan. My life is based around watching the Dolphins play and has been so since I was a little kid. I won't try to speak for everyone but I know how much passion, money, and time I've poured into being a Phins fan. Watched them in 5 different states, car magnets, personalized authentic jerseys, been to at least 75 games at JRS, gone to training camp and have defended them countless times on another Dolphins site that shall not be named against people who were then far more jaded as I am now. 17 years after Marino, we are 17 QBs later and 6 coaching regimes and an 4 playoff games with the last one being I think 2008.

Kudos to those who are either new enough to being fans or just have a divine temperament that allows them to absorb mediocrity better than the rest. I salute those of you who can pull that off. I also agree that there are some fans out there who won't ever be happy. Some just are full of hate and should go find a new team to root for while they have their soul blessed in the back of a 7-11. For me? Shoot, if we can string three wins together 3 times a year and just truly be in playoff contention in week 17 I'd be smiling. I'm just tired of how I never have any bragging rights with the Dolphins come Monday. I don't deal well with my team being the butt of jokes and lately we have rightfully been just that.

    Response rant over.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.....just embrace it all as an experience. Like Game of Thrones, you know they're gonna rip your heart out but they're also gonna reward you. People appreciate that show for all of the down stuff and the up stuff.

I watch the Dolphins the same way now and am much happier. Its bound to happen for us eventually. When it does, it will be that much more rewarding. Enjoy the whole ride/experience.

Also, watch American Ninja Warrior. You learn to deal with years of NO ONE winning.

All 32 teams have the same length of TC. So, it's not really a good excuse that it's short. If we need more, then keep the 1st team D out there all game. We're all on the same side here but, we're way to understanding. It's a new scheme, TC is shorter than it used to be, I mean I'm tired of being a Phins apologist. We look like donkey dump all the time. BUT, it's PS2. I get it. I don't want to fight with my fellow fans. We just want to see our team do well. Theres one more PS game coming up that matters, after that we're out of excuses. It counts then. It's like every season is Christmas and every year Santa takes a dump in front of the Christmas tree.

I think we're in the same boat, just plain old sick and tired of not being able to be optimistic, and I just wanted to show some love to those that still can be.

I should've mentioned Galant as well, his good old fashioned homerism leads to a lot of good on this site.

Anyway, back to being what I am, critical, until they change the pattern.
