do you think jones will show up? with all that money on the table i believe he will cave in. Now, i am very curious to see who folds first. i am all for the player maximizing his earning potential because teams cut players all the time even after agreeing to contracts. i never fault the player, but in this case the team holds all the cards. I want the dolphins to hold firm because he is being paid enough. I love jones as a player and its his right to hold out. I am right down the middle on this one, and just curious to see who wins this contest.
I love Jones as a player, but he is in no way underpaid and this is all just nonsense. He needs to show up. If he doesn't, then I hope he enjoys his retirement.
I think it would be best for all involved if he was in camp and they discussed behind the scenes rather than in social media.
I'll be disappointed if he doesn't show up, if he wants more money, fine, but do it while you're doing your work, he's not vastly under paid, if he's under paid at all, so him holding out for that would lead me to believe he's just a problem.
it looks as though his agent probably approached the front office with the request and they told him what they think, which was that they have no interest, hence the holdout..
I get that, but he is the 4th highest paid S going into this year, it shouldn't be a sticking point, you hold out because there is the sense of injustice, for lack of a better term, in what you're getting paid, but that is clearly not the case here. If he does hold out, then he does obviously think that there is some type of injustice with his salary, and that would make him a problem, since he is getting compensated quite fairly. I really don't think he will hold out, but if he does, he's a problem imo.
Well, since his contract is up after next year, I'm hoping this is just some early maneuvering for next year, since a lot of contracts are reworked the year before the last year. He was very noncommittal when asked about holding out beyond the voluntary portion, so I'm hoping, and thinking, he'll be here when he needs to be.
Not exactly, I just remember that it was vague, something like "we'll see", but I can't remember exactly.
I don't understand this hold out. Jones gets paid commensurately in both salary and guaranteed money in the Safety realm. Dolphins shouldn't pay him more and there's not many teams other teams that would, so I'm not sure what he's posturing for. If he has an issue with how much elite Safeties get paid versus elite DBs or other positions (e.g. Oliver Vernon), holding out is not going to improve his situation.
this is a man who went to a club national tv to find a woman, a woman who was amongst other woman at the club who were there for a '' date a pro athlete night''
Could age be a factor here? At 28, with two years left on contract, it'll be a different story at 30 and even at 29. Wants some security into his last years?
He has less of a leg to stand on than chancellor did. We didn't win all that much while he was playing, what really changes if he sits?
I kinda wish they would just cut him. For once it would be nice for a team to say, you don't like 7 million a year? Screw you, take zero for the year.
He should cave in, because he's being ridiculous IMO. Although, just got a message on my phone that he's extending his holdout into the mandatory mini-camp. So, he's sticking to it...

So... the guy who wants more money, is going to hold out from mandatory activities that will cost him $76k. Seems logical...
76k isnt even chump change for a guy like him. His salary might look big but he really only sees like 40% of it go to his account.. This guy is simply just not thinking... I wonder what his value is on the open marketZzz im sure we can get a first and a third for a guy like him. I love Jones and want him to stay, but i love the dolphins more.
at some point I think fans turn on a player like this. Marino always redid contract to help team get better. This guy wants to be paid with the best safeties, even when he already is?
That's why I was saying earlier in this thread that IF he does hold out into mandatory, HE becomes a problem. Fans can understand a guy who is getting woefully underpaid, but no one can sympathize with Jones' situation.
No, because then someone else would very likely give him what he wants. Just look at Josh Norman earlier this year. The Fins own Jones' rights for two more seasons. There is almost nothing he can do to force their hand. He either takes the huge pile of money he's already set to make, or he chooses to sit out and make zero, plus incur fines every day he's not there. He needs to show up, practice hard and play well, and then have the team revisit this next offseason.
If he is holding out with the pay he has, even in relation to the league - he is a problem. And, it would appear, the biggest problem is between his ears, and what his ears are ingesting from an agent who must want his cut of the pie to be from a bigger pie than the player can, in reality, justify.
its already happening because your fu$$in with our teams chances..unjustly in our eyes.. managing your career correctly is important, endearing yourself to the fans is part of the game and the big pic of success.
My God he has the team by the balls. Walt Aikens is the defensive equivalent to Dallas Thomas. Shamiel Gary is just a guy. He would screw with Suh's window of opportunity if he doesn't play. Which would upset everybody. He's really playing with fire here. Don't think safeties are expendable, either. Losing Delmas last year hurt bad...
I am not saying they should or will, I think it would be kinda neat for them to say screw you. And really I mean any team that has a player do this.
The perception of "caving in" is arbitrary and in the eye of the beholder. We aren't privy to exactly what Reshad Jones's goals and expectations were when he engaged this "holdout" (which until today merely meant staying away from VOLUNTARY activities, please go look up the definition of that word in the dictionary if you must). But if Armando Salguero is correct that Reshad is "highly highly highly HIGHLY unlikely" to miss any regular season games over this "holdout" then it is entirely possible that Reshad Jones merely sent the Dolphins a postcard that read: "You don't pay me enough to risk injury at voluntary OTAs or mandatory Mini Camps. Enclosed is a check for $75,000. See you in July. -Reshad" And if that's the case, who "caved" and who "won"? Reshad Jones effectively reduced his chance of injury occurrence during OTAs or Mini Camps to zero. And he did it for the small price of $75,000. If he comes back for training camp, does that mean he "caved"?
He should feel better being around his boys... good to see his agent Seth Norris didn't jeopardize his offseason. Sorry, Joel Segal...Saul Stallone?
