I think against the schedule they have this coming season, they will likely finish 6-10 at best. I stated a few weeks ago that if they finish 8-8, Gase should be considered coach of the year.

They aren't better than the Patriots, Jets, or Bills. So I see them finishing 4th in the AFC East in 2016. They lost more in free agency then they got back IMO. While I like their draft, it is going to take a couple of years to see how most of these players actually work out in the NFL.

Tunsil should be a definite upgrade on the OL and that was a great pick. Every other pick remains a question mark at this time.

The defense remains a HUGE question mark. It should be better, but considering how awful it was last year, being better than last year should be easy.

To me, the entire 2016 season is about determining if Tannehill is the long term answer at QB or not. I think the draft was all about giving Tannehill the resources he needs to prove he is the QB Gase wants to build this team around. As long as he continues to improve as the season goes along and the offense continues to grow, we can at least feel comfortable that the offense is set for the future.

In that case, the Dolphins FO can use the 2017 off season to upgrade the defense in free agency and through the draft. If Tannehill doesn't take the next step up in his development in 2016, I see Gase and the FO doing what is necessary to improve the QB position starting in 2017.

So for me, I don't see a playoff team in Miami until at least 2018. The 2016 season is all about Gase and the FO determining if Tannehill is the right man for the job beyond this coming season.

I hate pro rankings and don't think they have value, particularly when no team has played a game.

Your first three games are @Seattle, @New England, & home against Cleveland. How do you think the Dolphins will do in those three games?

    Why?

That's pretty much power ranking in a nutshell.

I really don't like the jets offense, for some reason they let chris ivory go, and replaced him with a player that has lost a step...also did not like their draft..no offensive weapons..and Fitzpatrick is average.

brandon marshall is a year older..im not sure they can score enough..don't see enough weapons..bad run game will lead to more players in the secondary.

if they didn't have a good coach, man..I think they would be in trouble..

I'm more optimistic this season than last. It's pretty awesome to think that maybe...just maybe...our offensive line can become a big strength this year. I think we have the ability to score points this season and that may result in more favorable situations defensively. On the other side our defensive line depth has boomed IMO and I feel better about our starting LB core. However I admit much work needs to be done depth wise due to health issues. I can see us having a strong secondary this year compared to last and that excites me. Doesn't mean we will be world beaters but I think we can be play makers.

The team lost a lot at RB, going from one of the top 10 talents in the league to a couple of guys who have proven nothing at the NFL level and have durability concerns. Other than that though, the only position where I feel worse this offseason than I did a year ago is CB, but that spot ended up being a lot worse than I figured that it would be anyways.

I may temper my expectations a bit from a year ago, but I'm certainly not going to be all gloom and doom. Better coaching and most of the same players. I expected about 11 wins last year, and I'm looking for 9-10 this year. Honestly, between the Fins, Bills and Jets, its all about equal. Some close wins and losses will likely determine who finishes where.

Vegas odds to me are more reliable than random power rankings. They don't always get it right, but These guys stand to lose a lot of money if they get it wrong.

New coaches, new system, no way to tell. Power ranking can take whatever it wants into consideration but I still feel they are worthless. It's just another talking point, heaped upon 1,000's of "experts" opinions.

I've seen the Fins pegged at 7 or 7.5 wins, but they're going to have the team low every year until they win more. Its a cold, unfeeling business for them.

We have a decent chance to open up 2-1. If we can stay healthy and keep balance on offense,I think 9 or 10 wins shouldn't be crazy. Tannehill is the least of my worries. The play we get from our safeties is what worries me most of all.

I never said we will get 9 or 10 wins or even that it is probable. Nowhere in what I posted did I give the impression that this year will start with the same expectations that some had last year. You never know what you will get with a brand new coach. 9 or ten wins might be as likely as 3 or 4 total wins.

And every year the media and some fans think that we're going to suck, also. Eventually, they'll be wrong. For me, being a fan is always being hopeful that the next year starts the right trend.
