I think it depends on when he started to work out HARD, if it's recent I suspect you're right and I won't be expecting anything positive out of him.
I know you have hopes for him and that's cool, I'm not trying to go after that, I respect your opinion to disagree, and I know you are of the opinion that he should not have put on that extra weight, but it was muscle, you could see he was bigger and more muscular, and everyone was talking about it, players coaches and media, it was all the talk. Now after the season he did put on bad weight, pictures of him surfaced at the beach with a bit of a paunch, but when he came back from the 6 game suspension in '14, he was ripped. Rookie(hazed hair) and 2nd year pics, you can see the difference.
I think seeing Tunsil drafted DESPITE the drug video probably gave Dion the sense that it was okay to rejoin the team and he would not be judged for his past behavior. Apparently forums are less forgiving than Front Offices.
Also, if Duane Brown can claim his positive steroid test is because of eating too many Mexican burgers, can't Dion just say he ate too many Jamaican patties?
Dude's raw physical gifts are OFF THE CHARTS man. Definitely worth it if he is motivated AND is in sync with the new staff using him properly His SPORTSCIENCE pass rusher rank
I don't know if DJ is a not so smart drug user or a drug addict. We know that if you are a little bit careful you can make Cheech and Chong look like anti-drug campaigners and still be successful in the NFL (Mike Pouncey for one). Either he's too dumb to take basic precautions or he's an addict. In a previous career I worked with rehabilitating people with workplace injuries. Some of those people had drug problems (alcohol, prescription, weed, whatever). Drug users you could reason with, get them to give up the gear long enough to do their physical rehab and get back to work. Drug addicts on the other hand we had a 100% failure rate at getting them to give up. Their entire existence revolves around getting their next hit. They would say whatever was needed, do whatever was required to get their next hit then collapse again. People do give up addiction, but my experience has been that external factors never succeed in making that happen, the change has to be internal, from within the individual. DJ has millions. If he is truly an addict then there is almost nothing the Dolphins can do to get him be a productive football player. In college he needed to perform on the field to get access to whatever floats his boat from his party buddies. The difference between DJ and the other scumbags you mentioned is that they had shown they could be productive football players despite their off field issues. DJ hasn't shown he can be a productive football player. He's made a few positive plays, but he's made more negative plays by running himself out of position or getting completely overrun by blockers.
If he can come back, become a productive special teams player and cover Gronk and some other big TE's, that would be good enough for me. Starting off with low expectations.
This has always been weird to me. Watched almost ever snap he played as a Duck. He was never a pass-rush specialist. He has freak measurables, but they allowed him to move around the defense to create mid-matches, and drop back to cover. They were never leveraged for pass rushing.
yet a lot of folks think he should be our def end in the wide 9 role..not me..stronside linebacker..little bit of mike, yup thats right, some spy work, and let him match up with tight ends who are mismatches.
So, just to be clear here...we all know it's not actually possible to get addicted to pot right? As in it's an herb, from the ground, not a chemical. It doesn't have any addictive chemical qualities, medically speaking. Soo, the dude is really just a moron is what I'm trying to say.
Can't one get addicted to the feeling? I mean there are sex addicts right, and that is not a chemical. I know some pot smokers that pot has jacked up every aspect of their life, but they won't stop it.
I hate that we wasted a high draft pick on a guy that can't stay sober enough to pass drug tests. I hope Dion Jordan the person turns his life around and as a fan I hope he plays and plays well for us but I don't feel sorry for him at this point. He's one strike away from never having another chance in the league and justifiably so. I hate Vick and Big Ben so I'm not one of the people that want those turds on our team.
This right here. He will NEVER be an effective DE. Doesn't have the size and doesn't have the moves. However, I saw him do an admirable job covering Gronkowski on a couple of plays and that could be worth it's weight in gold. If he comes back I truly hope it will be at LB, because I really think that is his position and where he could have the greatest impact. As far as don't want him back because he smoked weed narrative that is being tossed onto people, I could care less if the guy smokes weed, however the NFL does. At this point he is a lifer in the substance abuse program so he has to be done with it or the league is done with him. Further my biggest issue with him is since he has been with the Dolphins I have not seen a guy on the field that WANTS to be there. I question his commitment AND his desire. IF he has figured out this is what he wants to do and is going to keep himself clean in the eyes of the league, if he will put the work in to make it happen, then I will welcome him back with open arms. The man is athletic as heck, there has to be a place for him somewhere on our team if he has the commitment to it.
I'm not saying anyone should feel sorry for him. I'm saying his problems are real, deep seated and not necessarily his fault. He's not a chucklehead whose trying to keep it real by acting the rules don't apply to him. Because of that, he deserves some patience I think. Those other guys are **** people and there's no indication Jordan is in their class.
At that point it's just an excuse. I could say I'm addicted to music because I listen to it all the time, but really its just a life choice more than anything. People who claim addiction to things that aren't actually addictive are just looking for sympathy, and they're just choosing that lifestyle over something else. There's a severe difference between a real addict and some dude who just likes to smoke. I mean, a huuuge difference.
That's what I was wondering as well. His initial suspension in 2014 was for PEDs which he claimed were stimulants. and his year long suspension was for a diluted sample which counted as a 3rd strike so there must have been another failed test that went unreported.
He served 2 suspensions in 2014, a 4 game suspension that was knocked down to 2 games due to changes in the policy, and then he got busted again before his 2 game suspension was up, and that was a 4 game suspension, so that is why he was suspended for 6 games in 2014.
Yeah, that's not how that works. Any of it. Physically, your brain can lower production of and sensitivity to its own endocannabinoid neurotransmitters with thc use. Tobacco is also a plant that is grown in the ground. Think that means it has no adictive chemicals? I get it, it should be legal, and is in my state. It's easier to use responsibly than alcohol, less adictive than alcohol, and far less dangerous than alcohol. Let's be honest about it though.
hope & believe he will return. would like to see him reunited with Alonzo at OLB. got a good feeling about him this time round.
Perhaps, and I'm just spitballing here, but perhaps....is there a chance....you've been going to school lately?
Me too. The videos indicate he's working on his core strength. You can't get bigger, faster, stronger without training the roots.
That's bullcrap, nobody on this forum is better than that iconic opening to a TV show. Or would you like to offer a better one (and don't go with Magnum PI either, Higgins and the white guy effed that all up, TC in the helicopter was cool though)?
Has there been any word as to where Miami plans on playing Jordan? Does he fit anywhere specific, based on what we know about VJ defensive scheme?
Last I read was that the Dolphins aren't counting on Jordan for anything until word is given by the Commissioner that he can be reinstated. So it sounds like they're making plans without him until that status changes.
My guess would be that they will have to evaluate him themselves, in their system, this would be, in a way, a fresh start for him if he chooses to view it in that way.
I thought it was PED's while trying to recuperate his shoulder injury faster and then it moved onto party drugs? Could be off on that. Was a while back and was a lot of speculation.
