Just a reminder that any player outside of the first round is.. Well.. Not guaranteed. Chris Grier stating that he expected a run on corners, he was dead wrong, haha.
He was on my short list from last night. We had him targeted and made sure we got him. We got guys we wanted and it cost a 4th to do it. We got a lot with Tunsil and gave a little on Howard. As long as we got what we want it shouldn't be a problem.
Damn, and he hasn't even played yet. Who'da thunk it? No telling what these prospects do under an NFL conditioning program and being taught the game by NFL positional coaches. Vance Joseph has been around some good corners, I trust the pick even if I feel like the trade-up wasn't necessary.
Have you watched his tape? Dude is bad on film, real bad. His PFF score was high due to QBs inexplicably missing the WRs after he's been beaten. He gets INTs but that is the most overrated stat for CBs that there is IMO. His measurements at the combine were awful. People say he's a big CB but he really is big in the sense of weight to height not as much from a size stand point. I really hope I am wrong here, but I don't see him doing well in the NFL. Not happy with the pick, even more upset we gave up an early 4th in a draft that there is a ton of talent in that 4th to 5th round range.
Stupid dolphins MOVE henry was sitting there at 11! This kids not a given to be anything but a project.. Hope im wrong but I dont like this one at all!
Well considering we had a 5-10 corner this dude's a giant at 6-2! Just say a stat that scares the hell out of me! Xavien Howard had nine combined INTs and 17 passes defended in 2014 and 2015, but also surrendered nine TDs. Thats against college level talent.. NFL sends the big boys!
Tested pretty well at his pro day. Which tape should I watch? I've watched NC, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma. Only the NC game has been suspect.
Typically the best CBs don't get targeted so they don't get interceptions. I'd much rather have a CB that doesn't give up catches and touchdowns (ala the 9 Howars gave up) than one that does and gets interceptions.
Last season he did not give up many receptions. If you are counting two seasons, then he only gave up 2 last season, because he gave up 7 in 2014.
There's a rumor the Bears wanted Howard and that's why the Phins traded up. If that's true, I feel a bit better.
with the CB's we cut/didn't resign and bringing in max and the rook, our corners have gotten 24 inches taller.
I think that's his game, rerouting wide receivers. You'll see balls that look like wild throws, it's actually because he's good at disrupting the timing...
The PI call in the Oklahoma game was a little wishy-washy. He gets beat over the top once in that game, the back-shoulder pass almost-touchdown is near indefensible. Neither of these plays were touchdowns in the end. I often see Howard pushing receivers out of bounds and wiping them out of plays entirely. The tools are there, he just needs coached.
He flew under my radar, but it doesn't seem to be a reach at all. Seems like the best candidate for our press scheme. Maybe Artie Burns, but he was gone. I know they invested a ton of time on cb's and they felt good enough about him to trade up. The smokescreen was a complete success in my case. Didn't see this coming at all.
It's not a reach. He was projected 2nd round talent and has plenty of tools. The biggest issue I and many had was the 4th pick trade, however with the twitter word that the Bears wanted him, I'm a little more at ease with the trade. I like Howard as a player.
