Mando thinks we need to double dip on CB

Bobby McCain was the #1 rated slot cb in the NFL per pff before we tried him on the boundary. He's money at the slot.

Mando also carves up Jamar Taylor, who I thought got a bum rap from the refs his first game back. He was super aggressive and effective until they backed him off by calling PI on him. He let up and got torched, then the fans jumped on him and finished the job. Kid still has a shot to shine in our new press scheme.

Leon Hall has been alluded to all offseason as someone they might pick up if they don't draft corner, so there's that.

Other than that, Mando has a point, but it just seems he went overboard in trashing our current roster. Again, it's a depressing read that has better material in the comments section.

I do think they need to draft one high, but double dipping seems overkill unless we somehow drop and add an extra second. Still need a solid guard.

I don't think Taylor is any good. perhaps if they use him as a press corner he will be better, but I have never liked him.

If you think both of them can start, then there's value there. If one of them is just a contender, then we have more important holes to fix on the team

I'm not sold on Jamar Taylor. He's more of an unknown to me than Lippett or Bobby McCain.

But I've seen Nolan Carroll be awful early, then quite decent towards the end with us.

I agree that we will doubledown on the CB position in the draft hopefully beginning with Hargreaves with our first pick.

Regarding our existing CBs they were exposed to some bad coaching .I will like to see if they improve under the tutelage of Gase s coaching staff.

You can never have too many quality CB's, because they are crucial in todays game, if you do have a surplus, they are great value in trades.

I think its more important to improve the front 7. If teams can't run on us and they get significant pressure on the QB then couple that with the fact we probably have a top 3 safety tandem now, CB is the least of my concerns.

Basically, you have to run through the hundreds of scenarios you are going to see in the draft. Several of those scenarios will involve drafting two corners, several will not involve taking one highly at all.

Starting with the assumption that Maxwell & McCain will definitely be on the roster, you work from there. Considering Lippett is taking first team reps in the mini-camp, you have to believe the staff sees something worth developing with him. That leaves Jamar as another guy to evaluate, a hobbled Ifo, and a guy like Aikens who can play some corner, and a Michael Thomas who can fill in the slot as well.

I believe CB is the number one need on this roster because I do not see a guy who is going to emerge as a quality starter out of that group opposite Maxwell, but I also believe we have several developmental types, so the need to draft two corners is not as high in my mind. I'd suspect they'll sign several UDFA types, or maybe the Leon Hall veteran after May 12th.

This. Carolina just let one of the top CBs in the game go ... why? Because they are confident in their front 7 to mask their plug players in the secondary.

Denver just wrecked havoc in the playoffs and into the Super Bowl. Yeah they had some good corners, but Vonn Miller and Ware were not getting coverage sacks - those CBs were boosted and propped by the front 7. If Elliot is gone, take the best front 7 guy available.

I have been saying for awhile too, even DT at this junction is not an untoward move. A guy like A'Shawn can really improve our DT rotation. Him, Suh and Phillips could be an immoveable group with the power and ability to implode the pocket up the middle. Get some rangy LBs behind that group and look out. Is it a NEED? No, but you can certainly argue he will be BPA if he makes it to 13. If not, take 1-2 of the other DTs or DEs in rounds 2-3-4.

Been saying since he was in college, Jamar should convert to safety..

I really like tavon Young if he's there later..he's not big, but he's good..would give mccain a run

I would good with him moving to safety. I am also looking forward to the new DC coaching up the DB's he took some average guys with the Bengals and made them solid.

Jamar Taylor is a perfect fit for the scheme we want to run defensively. Why would we want to move him to S?

If there is a chance that Taylor can turn things around, it's going to be in a press heavy scheme that mirrors safeties behind it.

Add another rangy LB to the fold and you actually start taking away the short passing game that gave us such trouble. Much of the way you stop the short passing game is with rangy LB's who can eat up that space over the middle and by moving your corners up to press position at the line of scrimmage. I don't even mean in press coverage, but rather at the LOS to prevent the free yards from being too far off.

Someone like Myles Jack is exactly the type I'm referring to.
