I just wonder how much Grier is in control of drafting, with Tbaum here and all, we may have had good scouts for the past 15 years or so, but obviously the GM's haven't been listening to them.

Ive got to feel like with the time Grier spent in this organization he would not lay down and give up control when he is offered his dream job..Being a gm is about control, it is about being accountable for the picks you have the team make..I mean if you dont have the final say your a tool..you've got to have it to prove your vision and you have to have it for three years to accurately assess how good you are.

I have heard him say that he does have final say, he played it off after the fact by saying they all work as a team, but those words did come out of his mouth.

I think all this means is the guys we hired are professionals, just like the guys practically everyone else hires. It's rare you won't see some kind of endorsement for almost every coaching candidate.

Problem is, only a small percentage of these professionals end up outperforming the rest and there's no way to tell yet if our new hires belong in that group. We'll see soon enough!

There isn't any new hirings though, just a couple of promotions, these guys have all been with the team for at least 9 years, I just wonder about Tbaum, making Grier GM may just be in name only, kind of like the new OC.

We just have to wait and see(broken record), so tune in next year, same Phin time, same Phin channel.

No matter what Grier said, I believe Tannebaum has the final say. He is head of football operations and therefore Ross is going to go to him when things aren't working out. I have no doubt Tannebaum will put the blame on Gase and Grier,to save his job. I just think if you are the person over football operations, you are going to make sure you are the person making the major decisions regarding free agent signings and the draft.

I don't have any faith in Tannebaum and I would much rather have Grier and Gase making all the decisions, but unfortunately Tannebaum is the person the owner picked for the job.

Im not a big believer that these GMS have superior evaluating talent then some folks on this site..so its whatever to me..until we know who's responsible for what, its hard to hold these dudes accountable..I know the scouts are on the record, its how they move up.

probably...To me the there is an analogy that makes sense..In the entertainment business/music business, you have artists, and you have producers, sometimes those artists cant believe that the producers have a specific talent that is better than what they have, the singing talent just thinks they're better in all phases because the producers cant sing as well as they can..then their ego tells them they can produce their own music, until the fall flat on their face, realize no'one cares about their lyrics and voice unless the music is good.

For me I think the GM role, and whats most important in the role, is pure talent evaluating, now some will say well, you need to be more than just a talent evaluator these days if you wanna be a good gm, and to those people I say.... no you don't..

imo, I really am not hating on Tannebaum at this point, I mean he hired Gase, he promoted Grier, so it behooves him, if he's smart, to let them do their job and not micromanage, it takes a smart man when to recognize the talents of your work partners and allocate responsibilities.

Maybe Tannebaum realizes Grier is the better talent evaluator, because thats who grier is and was brought up to be, and lets him make the calls..

First off, let me say I do hope you are right, that he lets people do their job, however your analogy doesn't exactly fit the situation, because what if the producer is a former artist? Do they then think that they know better? Because Tbaum was a GM, and after all he is ultimately responsible for the team.

Look at our OC this year, who's name escapes me, but his name escapes me because in this case, Gase has already stated that he will be the OC for all intents and purposes, and last year we had Hickey, who was in the same boat as Grier, had worked a long time in the NFL being groomed for this position, but by all accounts it was Tbaum doing most of the GM work.
