"What I can tell you about the number one pick now is, this pick has developed into a very very economic consequential decision. If you make a pick at that spot and you're wrong, it's a real bad thing for quite a while. It's economically a very bad thing for quite a while. I've been involved in two situations where I've had the #1 pick before, one time we picked Drew Bledsoe, the other time we traded to the #6 then the #8 pick. Any team that's won one, hopefully two, games this year needs a valuable player. But getting someone to be interested in that pick is not just as simple as saying 'Okay, we're gonna trade that pick.' I would consider anything. It just depends on what the possibilities are and how they're presented. If we keep the pick, we're gonna try to get a player who'll be a factor for the Miami Dolphins for an extended period of time. We won't be influenced by sentiment or mock drafts or cottage industry gurus who collect information from everywhere from the practice field and then determine who you should pick--no disrespect intended."

I love the " I don't want thugs and troublemakers on my team!" Thank God, I'm tired of all the questionable individuals that have been around since J.J. through Saban. I also like the fewer guys on our draft board. Let's shake it up real good Bill, we can only get better at this point.

"Any time you're involved you feel the same pressure that Wayne feels and the coaches feel. When your name's on it, it doesn't matter how many titles you've won in the past if you're not winning now. I do feel pressure to try to improve this situation. Certainly I've come here with an understanding of what to try to do. I will work on this as diligently as I possibly can, and I mean that."

    Conference over.

Impressive conference... Now all he has to to is live up to it... I see CAM and RANDY back and this is based on a couple of different statements that he made...

Parcells made a comment that was directed at what Cam did in the draft. He said "I don't want to draft a guy based on sentiment" ..."we aren't going to do that". Well that is exactly what Cam did by drafting Ted Ginn.

I'm pretty sure he meant sentiment as in "popular sentiment," not "emotional sentiment."

That is, were he in Cameron's spot last year, he would've passed on Brady Quinn too if he thought there was someone better available. It wouldn't necessarily be Ted Ginn, though.

My sense was that Cam and Randy seem to be in a better position to remain with the team than many were thinking. Parcell's went on the make it a point that Bobby knight has mentioned Cam often in their talks. not just recently either but back when Cam was a student.

I think what seperates Parcells from most other coaches is how much emphasis he puts on getting into the heads of his players and in this job coach and GM as well. I love the fact that he's going to do a psychological evaluation of all of our players one by one. One of the biggest problems we have had since the days of Shula IMO is too many mentally soft players that would choke at the wrong time. He will go through our roster and weed out the guys with no heart and no guts. His ability to do that is uncanny and unmatched by any other individual in the game today

As i have stated on this board, whether we draft a QB early is going to be dependent on Beck's meeting with Parcells. If Parcells feels he has the mental fortitude to lead this team I think Beck will be safe for another year. If Parcells thinks he's mentally soft expect Beck to have competition. Parcells isnt going to waste time on experiments. He prefers to play sure things

Another comment I loved from Parcells was the comment he made about how pathetic our injury list is. He said "the injury list next year is only going to be about 10% of what the list is next year". He said "I don't know what the reason is for all the injuries, whether it's because the Dolphins don't have good enough athletes or whether the players just aren't in shape but that (injury problems with players) is going to get fixed". About damn time!!

No, when he said sentiment I think he meant drafting someone for sentimental reasons because he followed that up with "we're not going to draft a guy who the media or fans think we should draft" ..which would be the Brady Quinn saga. The sentiment part came into play when Cam talked about knowing Ginn and his family etc.

I disagree... CAM picked this guy to be the change of pace for the team... He was the one person that could be the biggest threat on several different levels with the team...

Not many out wants to see the versatility that GINN provides this team...

IT is truly amazing how everyone can draw a conclusion fron a single press conference... He said nothing that would indicate what, if any changes, would be made... Certain statements are being disected and thrown out as an opinion...

Come on guys... At least let it play out before passing judgement...

I agree with Desides that he meant popular sentiment. 80% of Dolphins fans wanted Brady Quinn. That wouldve been the popular sentiment pick. Parcells basically said that the public can go hell. They are going to pick players that fit his system or philosophy

It seems like we have one of the most poorly conditioned teams in the league. There has to be some underlying reason why we have so many injuries almost every season. Why isn't our strength and conditioning coaches ever called out for this crap??

I wouldn't care if the guy told us all to go to hell personally. As long as he turns our team around. I could care less

Agreed. Cam was too soft on them in TC and they weren't conditioned properly, that's the only way I can explain all our injuries. I absolutely love the no thugs and hoods statement.

Well Parcells is 66 years old and he flew into Miami a short time before that press conference so I am sure he was probably tired. Hardly any of us would be real perky if we were 66 years old and just had a long flight.

    Check your pulse

If the Parcells press conference did not move you in any way you need to check your pulse. The man pisses excellence. If he has to take off his mom jeans and strangle Cam during a game he will do it. He will not fail.

a letter from Bill to the Patriots..

If some of you are thinking that Bill Parcells would have drafted Brady Quinn based on his sentiment statement, then you are sadly mistaken.

I doubt Bill Parcells would have drafted Brady Quinn, because Quinn's biggest problem as a quarterback is throwing the ball accurately down the field.

The guy that I would say Bill Parcells would have drafted, based on his philosophy, is Adam Carriker.

Carriker is a Parcells type. Pat Willis wouldve also been considered. Maybe even Okoye

he sure did use the word "try" a lot. I prefer people who "do". I hope Parcells takes this serious and gets our team out of the grave.
