I used to have a box back in the day that let me watch pay channels and PPV's. Years back, cable companies moved all those channels to digital. That pretty much rendered all those old analog boxes useless...

I haven't looked into it for years, so I thought maybe somebody around here might have some info.

Has there been any advances in the cable scene? Is there a box out there that can get digital channels now?

Usually the cable company will provide you with a box to get digital channels. Or you can use any CableCARD compatible one.

I know in order to receive Digital Cable you HAVE to have a digital Cable box from your provider.

I remember those old atlanta scientific black boxes with the small remotes and catching a peak at porn when I was younger than 10. We didn't have an illegal box but sometimes premium channels would just show up.

I also remember when direct tv was coming up you could get a rigged card but the satelite companies would zap them every 6 months or so...then youd have to buy another phoney card...it eventually became a wiser choice to just purchase the premium channels

yeah i used to program cards for satellite receivers to get all the channels. this was a LONG time ago, you can't really do that anymore. they use a different system now for verification, and short of being a huge underground organization, you're not going to have access to the methods/technology to beat it.

    so yeah, moving on.... ;)

my neighbor told me around last year he had it. i havent ask him since. My buddys brother use to do the cards for DTV but that was a long time ago(3-4yrs??)For Dish I think it required a special box or something. The guy who hooked him up had to come out and set his dish up for him.

I'll have to ask him if he still has it.

makes sense. the only way to do it now is hard-coded IN the boxes. but they key is getting them coded for programming, which has to be done by an installer, or someone who knows an installer who can "call it in." VERY risky now b/c obviously said installer can lose job & go to jail - it requires communicating with the satellite provider to setup the box.

in the old days we used to just program/flash the cards in the receivers, so anyone could do it.

now you have to have someone who either is inside, or has access to things/people inside. i don't doubt your story, just saying that's not something really "available" to the rest of us.

ebay has them-you just need to look around
you can find one that is compatible with your cable provider-
there is also different websites you can find that have instructions and sell
pre-modified cable modems and boxes as well-they will not tell you that you will get
all channels or uncapped speeds-for obvious reasons-but if you read enough and research enough you can find what you want.
I found out a few things just by searching for info about my modem speed being so slow.
    Now-well no problem now.
