Trevathan is interesting, not sure if its realistic that we could sign him but that would give us a stud at every level in the defense to go along with Suh and Jones.
I'd rather spend precious cap space on re-signing some young, promising players like Miller, OV, Matthews (at least 2 of them) and try filling holes at LB and CB in the draft. Seems to me like a better strategy longer term doing it that way than going after higher priced FA's on defense.
That's ideal, but it's just not really possible. Unless you're extremely lucky, you just can't fill all of your needs via the draft. A big part of being a great GM theses days is making smart, solid moves in FA as well as proper roster management. I am really hoping for some good off season moves and not just big mane splashes. If done correctly, along with some luck, it could really give us a lot more flexibility heading into the draft. There's some good players to be had this off season who could really help the team, imo. There;s some solid guards like Evans and Boone, etc. There's Reggie Nelson at S. There's LBs like Trevathan. There's RG111. Ok. Ok, Sorry. I'm just kidding! I think this FA along with proper roster management is going to be especially HUGE!!
I hope they take a look at Vincent Rey. He'd be a good pickup at a reasonable price and at the very least provide competent play at MLB.
Another brilliant observation from Obvious Man and Captain Duh! Denver won't be able to keep trevathan. We should definitely be interested in him. And Laurenaitis. And Jack. And Jenkins. And Ragland. And.. And... And...
I really like Trevathan, but he's going to likely get way overpaid after that Super Bowl. If Laurenaitis is a lot cheaper, then I'd rather go with him and then draft a DB or even LB with #8 pick.
