"There was a report last week that the Dolphins are talking to defensive end Cameron Wake about an extension that would lower his 2016 cap hit and keep the veteran pass rusher on the roster despite the torn Achilles he suffered last season. If Wake does stick around, he will be able to act as a mentor to another defensive lineman making the jump from the Canadian Football League to the Dolphins.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins have agreed to terms on a three-year deal with Cleyon Laing. Laing has spent the last three years playing for the Toronto Argonauts and recorded 15 sacks in 35 games with the team. He reportedly had several other offers, including ones from the Jets and Patriots. Per Jackson, the chance to play with and learn from Wake and Ndamukong Suh helped convince Laing to cast his lot with the Dolphins.

Lowell Ullrich of 3DownNation.com points out that Laing is one of 16 CFL players to sign on with NFL teams this offseason, which is a new high for a single offseason. Not all of those players will wind up making teams, but 15 players also signed deals last offseason so it seems that playing in the CFL offers decent opportunities for players trying to find a way into the NFL."

"Which brings us to Cleyon Laing, a rising talent with the Toronto Argonauts. Though nothing has been signed, he has agreed to terms on a three-year entry level contract with the Dolphins, a source said Monday, following reports in Canada.

Laing isn’t as heralded a prospect as Wake was coming out of the CFL, but the Dolphins are intrigued. Laing had five NFL offers, including ones from the Jets and Patriots. But the Dolphins were the most persistent, and the defensive coaching staff sent word that he would benefit learning from Wake and Ndamukong Suh, which carried weight with Laing.

Laing, 6-3 and 280 pounds, also felt well-suited to Miami’s 4-3 defense, where he can play end or tackle if he makes the team (and we're obviously a long way from him making the team). He had 41 tackles, nine sacks and two formed fumbles for Toronto last season. His agent, Jonothan Hardaway arranged workouts for him with seven teams, including the Dolphins. An Edmonton native, he had 3.5 sacks in four seasons of a nondescript college career at Iowa State. He has 15 sacks in 35 career CFL games."

Unlike Wake, Laing is a true Canuck, born in Edmonton, Alberta, but went to Iowa state, he's obviously not another Wake, having 15 sacks in 3 years, Wake had 39 sacks in 2 years, but 8 of Laing's sacks came in '15, the only season he actually started 16 games, so he seems to be ascending.

Couldn't find tape, but not going crazy to find any, so not sure if he's an edge setter, he has the body for it, same height as Wake, but 30lbs heavier, mostly muscle, so low center of gravity, so perhaps he's better at stopping the run.

Either way, I wouldn't expect too much from him, it would be great if he became a decent back up, but who knows, everybody's been dipping into the CFL since Wake, but there hasn't been much as far as NFL starters.
