i know this this a business, and their is no loyalty in sports. there is talk of extending cam wake. i believe it is the right move. he should end his football career as a phin. that is our guy. he may not worth it but he has given us all he has when healthy. havent heard him complain in the down years. when healthy he gives maximum effort. one of my fav dolphins. sometimes you have to reward guys like that. would be a great moral boost for some of the young guys on the team. thaughts?

If Miami can find a way to extend him, lower his salary cap number, while making most of his money performance based. I would love to extend him.

I love Wake's work ethic and what he has meant to the team since his arrival in Miami. But if the Dolphins could trade Jason Taylor and cut Zach Thomas when they still had a few years left in them. I really can't see Wake getting any special treatment when it comes to remaining a Dolphin.

You have a new coaching staff who needs to build for the future. This team is at least three years from being a legitimate playoff contender and Wake won't be part of the team in three years.

Hopefully Wake can recover from his present injury and he will be able to sign with a team which will give him a legitimate chance to play in a playoff game or possibly a SB during the remaining year or two he might have left in the league.

If Wake were four or five years younger and was coming off major injury, I would have no issue with the Dolphins signing him to a new contract. At this stage of his career though, I just don't know if he would want to sign for the vastly reduced contract the Dolphins would likely offer him.

When healthy, he is the best player on our team. Yes, he gets consideration most other players wouldn't get. We should extend him and drop his 2016 cap number waaayyyy down. Keep him under an incentive laden contract until he is 37 if that is what he wants.

One thing to keep in mind, being 100% healed is not the same as Wake coming back at 100% of what he was.

The problem here is that this injury is an injury that changes MOST players that get it, and the players that are in mostly effected by this injury are RBs and passrushers, because of having to be explosive in resistant contact, not getting hit, but driving against another opponent with speed, this puts extreme pressure on that area.

So 1st there is the mental process of being able to trust the injured area, which in many players and in many different injuries that is what takes a year to get over, which is why you hear that a lot, "this type of injury takes a full year to fully get past", and that goes for just about any torn ligament or muscle.

Then there is the actual physical affect it has on the player, sometimes you never get full range back, sometimes it's not as elastic, and age is a definite factor.

I think I read that it wasn't a full tear, I combine that with insane work ethic, explosive fast twitch body, and it becomes almost predictable that he will be ready to go for preseason, plenty of time..

obviously we dont know all the details of the injury, but if I'm a betting man, knowing what i do know, I would extend the guy in a heartbeat.

The Achilles receives stresses of 10-12 times body weight.

Following surgery, about 70 to 90% of athletes have a successful comeback after Achilles tendon injury. Surgery is required in about 25% of athletes with Achilles tendon overuse injuries and the frequency of surgery increases with patient age and duration of symptoms as well as occurrence of tendinopathic changes. However, about 20% of injured athletes require a re-operation for Achilles tendon overuse injuries, and about 3 to 5% are compelled to abandon their sports career because of these injuries.

I have no doubt he'll be ready, what I do doubt is that he'll ever be the same, I'm all for resigning him to an incentive based contract, not extending though, because that'll end up as a lot of guaranteed money, as in turning his base pay into bonus money, and still asking him to take a drastic paycut.

At 34, if he loses an ounce of that quick twitch, it'll make a ton of difference, and that's my real concern.

It's worth noting that those statistics are more than 20 years old. One can expect those numbers to have shifted even more in favor of athletes with the advancement of sports medicine.

    Those numbers get worse if the athlete is an NBA or NFL player;

Leave it up to the GOVT to have 20 yr old statistics

He is the wrong side of 30. It would have to be a cap friendly deal. I would just as soon run with Vernon and move on.

This is an archaic publication and refers to people and athletes in general.

Wake is a multi millionaire, and I'm sure he has already traveled to the world's foremost stem cell clinic to have stem cells taken from his bone marrow , cultured and injected into his achilles. Perhaps the same one Peyton Manning went to in Switzerland. I'm sure he is also having his own plasma frequently injected into the wound to accomplish total restoration quickly.

Ok you guys need a feel good/not loose hope moment

What do you guys suggest we pay the man?

Lets assume he will play 3 to 4 more years on a team with cap problems, and a team that won't realistically do anything of significance in that time.

Please consider the money we pay him could be used to shore up other areas and/or replace him. Lets not forget Wake is my absolute favorite player on this team.

I am beyond curious to see what the numbers would look like in an extension. We all love Wake and obviously want him back. My guess is that eventually we are going to have to pay the piper. At some point, we will have dead money on our books after he regresses and is cut, or we will wind up paying a premium for diminished talent. Both of those might not be as bad as they sound, if the number is something that is manageable. This is where Dawn Aponte can do magic for us.

I would think that injury he had would be pretty important to be able to be explosive.
