And Kirk cousins just had a better year than Tanny has ever sniffed. I'm judging it over careers and Newton leaves too much to be desired in the passing game. He won't be as physical as the wear and tear piles on. He had a good year but can he carry it on? Maybe. If he does I'll elevate him. He's definitely great but what if an injury saps his speed. Can he stay in the pocket and pass all day? With a year of film will people defenses figure it out next year? I would take Newton over Romo because of age but Romo has been fantastic. His accuracy, completion % and touch are lacking. If he shores that up he'll be the best player in the league. He's already really good
No it really didn't. You believe the QB is everything. You see we don't win, so you blame our QB. Other people say its defenses and running game that win championships which is the opposite of your stance that QBs are mythical creatures that win championships, beat breast cancer, discovered new planets and unlocked the secrets of the 3 Seashells from Demolition Man. So to try to set things right in your world, you attack the notion that defense and running games wins championships by finding a rare example of when they don't. I recognize this, because we've been a part of this board for quite awhile and I know how you argue. So, I forgo explaining all of that and get to the heart of the matter and illustrate to you, that we had the fewest rushing attempts in the league and our defense was poor. I know.....its like witchcraft how much I know what you're thinking.
He's the league MVP. Accounted for 45 TDs, good TE with pedestrian receivers. He led that team this year. He's an elite player IMO. Still ascending at 26.
Hey... keep stats/age/size out of it. Dang it. 1 or 2 bad games out of 18 aint too shabby in a league with the biggest and fastest humans on earth trying to take your head off. MVP = him beating out all those 'elites' for the award.
Jon Kitna looked elite one season. So did Nick Foles. So did CKap. So did any number of QBs. One season is not enough to say he's elite.
He does things that are elite in any era and any year. He also does some things way less than elite... every yr.
I don't have him in that category yet. He had a very good defense, strong run game, top 5 TE (which IMO is far more important than WRs) and excellent protection.
This. He didn't look elite last year. Let's see how he looks next year. Elite isn't just awarded based on one season. Cousins had 100 rating this year. Threw for 29 ran for 5. Elite? Naw. Let's hold off on that. 3-4 years of elevated play and we'll talk. Matt Stafford 2011 anyone?
Lmao!! Y'all got me in here cracking up this morning...I commend you two, I don't think we could find two bigger homers if we had the God's Eye computer program from Fast and Furious
You find noticing homers on a fan forum odd? RT is/could be as good as all those teams listed in your first quote. You could debate about why you see it differently. You might have a case for Denver, Arizona and maybe even KC. But it would be a debate and not a certainty.
Well, it's about time for us....if things can fall into place we can get the rest of the defensive pieces we need to turn the corner quickly...we need our defensive draft picks from last year to come in sharp, in great shape, learn and know the playbook and start contributing quality minutes which I am sure they will do...we need to hit really good in FA with guard(s), and FS, and CB(s).....and finally to hit the ball out of the park on all draft picks.....I would love to see us draft Noah Spence and see Dion Jordan come back with the proper weight, playing a stand-up rover type just getting the opposition all over the field and blitzing....we will quickly improve quite a bit this year if we can do this and all units play as one for the team...this is my humble opinion on how we can turn it around quickly...
I think you're throwing around "elite" pretty liberally, Kitna has flat out never looked elite, Kap looked like he might become elite, but never actually had an elite season, and Foles did look elite for the better part of one season, but that was as a back up who only started ten games. None of these examples compares to the body of work that Cam has put in, he has ascended to elite, only time will tell if he can stay there.
I don't think cam is elite although he is not far away.he reminds me of a rawer version of John elway at that age so he's on the right path. He needs to continue working on the cerebral part of the game and improve his throwing consistency to move up to elite
Cam Newton is not elite. Kitna, one year, was the talk of the league. Foles was also. Tons of QB's have one outstanding year. Newton has had one outstanding year. He's had some other good years, but he's not elite. He has the potential, I think, though.
I could only imagine the outrage if Tannehill had 3 guys named Corey Brown, Ted Ginn, and Jericho Cotchery at WR. My god would that excuse be everlasting.
It was worse, he had Brian Hartline, Davone Bess & Legedu Naanee at one point. Bet you **** on him that season too.
When was Kitna the talk of the league? Pretty sure the answer is "never." I checked out his player page. He was comeback player of the league once. Other than that...he led the league in attempts once, in completions once, in interceptions once, and sacks twice. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/K/KitnJo00.htm Foles was genuinely terrific in 2013, and made the Pro Bowl that year (one more appearance than Kitna managed in a 14-year career). Other than that he's been mediocre, or worse. Cam Newton was the MVP of the entire league this year. He was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2011. He's been to the Pro Bowl three times. Cam Newton is elite. It's silly to compare him to Foles, and ludicrous to compare him to Kitna.
To help with your point his best tight end was Anthony Fasano. Cam does have Greg Olson and and shamegame13 is also missing Funchess who started to step up towards the end of the season. Dolphins had Binns, Marlon Moore and the not ready for primetime players of Rishard Mathews and Charles Clay.
The point was from your mentioning of Kitna, etc being the talk of the year. You can look at my post and see my opinion of Cam.
The point I was making was in regards to the Super Bowl. Carolina got elite play out of their QB this year as they reached the big game. I didn't believe it was an actual topic of debate, being that he was rightfully named league MVP. Whether he remains/ascends/descends, time will tell.
The problem, like always, is that everyone has a different definition of elite and everyone is arguing as if the person they're talking to is operating under their definition and not their own. This happens with every discussion where someone is declaring someone elite/franchise/great/etc.
Funchess is greener then grass but think what you want, he might have had 2 decent regular season games, not good, just decent.
No, during that year, i had a lot of hope... 4 average years later and overpaid now, yea, i have my issues with our knucklehead QB.
In this case, the stats don't even show what he says it does. The only thing Newton lacks in, is completion %. But ypa he's at 7.8. 7.1% TD, 2.0% INT. 99 rating. The completion % is important (even with the high ypa) because completed passes sustains drives. But he had a great season.
Regardless, I do not put Cam in the same group as Brady, Rodgers, Brees. I'm not sure he's as good as Rivers. I think he has the potential to be elite, but he needs to string together a few seasons like this one before I call him elite.
