Yeah Pennington will be released so that Favre can be fit in under the cap. So he will be released...that's via the NFL Network.

Or Beck, in the meanwhile, we acquire a ready to start, healthy, young Starting Qb for a token draft pick or a quietly negotiated contract.

Which brings up a good point, since we have first choice of cut and released players after being 1-15, does that include cuts that happen before the first cut down day?

oh wait I see what you're saying now... why not get something for him? instead of releasing him? I guess I just get the feeling they aren't going to play around and create another controversy by keeping Pennington on the roster. If they think they are "close," they will just release him and save themselves the aggravation/circus. If I'm the Phins, I wait it out, knowing that a Pennington isn't going to make or break our season.

We would get first dibs on the waiver wire, BUT, we'd pick up Pennington's salary in full. I'd rather not do that and wouldn't mind risking another team claiming him instead (before he hits the OPEN market).

The benefits of starting him over McCown are probably high.

He's better than Trent Green I'd say and Green was by far our best last year. Pennington's not THAT old though.

It might give us another 2 wins to be honest if you say that Pennington will give you a low 80s QB rating.

I don't know, the current regime seems really keen on being competitive, for me there is little doubt that Pennington would instantly make us more competitive.

True we played the JT cards close to the vest and got what we wanted out of that trade, if the Jets want a token 5th round pick or something, IMO we should hop on such a deal.

I see what you are saying, Favre should be crowned, Pennington released, but who knows what the Jets FO will do? Pennington is healthy, starting Qb's are rare in the NFL today....

Tannenbaum already announced that Pennington is being traded in a separate deal by 4:00pm tomorrow that was already in the works. No such luck bringing him to Florida guys.Looking forward to opening day more than ever to see all these Dolphin players who some in this thread have said are so much better than the Jets players.

This is from a poster on another Forum.

Adam Schefter is reporting the Pennington will be released tommorrow.

    This from NFL Network.

This is a replay of the Trent Green situation last year, only Pennington is healthy, I don't know what the skill level of the Jets FO is, hopefully tomorrow morning Chad is out of a job....

IMO, the value of allowing the Offense as a whole learn to operate with a good Qb back there, a proven winning Qb, is worth bringing him in.

    Pennington = Jay Fiedler

A QB that will get you some wins but is nothing special.

That being said, he IS better than McCown so if he comes free (no trade) then we should do it.

    Not even close.

Pennington even now blows Fiedler out of the water. Fiedler had no accuracy...

So you were posting earlier based on what Schefter was saying, but now Tannenbaum is saying that Pennington has already been traded and the deal will be announced by 4:00 pm?

I'd rather see Beck/Henne WIN grab the bull by the horns and end our search for a qb once and for all, but again, Plan B for the near future, worth looking at once he hits the open market.

But he had his legs which gave us more than a few wins.

Taking both QBs and looking at their strengths and weaknesses, they are about the same.

Two QBs with good heads but have major faults.

In the end they will win some but are not the championship caliber QBs you want.

He would be a good pick up given our current situation.

    Yeah exactly.

Thing is, if he is released tomorrow, does the Trifecta wait until after the TB game to see what they have or sign him immediately?

    hrmmmm....

I guess you could compare them in that regard. However, Pennington when healthy was actually Championship good. He was incredibly efficient and could hit in the red zone like it was a joke.

Right now if he's moderately healthy it'll be a two-three win boost. That would at least make for more exciting Dolphin football.

We won't be unbelievably bad anywhere if we sign him.

It would've been great to have had him before his injuries.

But I am looking at it from a here and now perspective and I do believe that if he's healthy, he can give our offense a boost in the short term that could possibly get us close to ...dare I say it...nahhh I dont want to get eaten alive by naysayers tonight

Lets just say a respectable record

But hey, I was hoping for that even with our crop of Qbs right now :wink2:

Knowing that Parcells and company are calling the shots, I have to think that they will act quickly and bring him in. We could have four qb's on the roster until the final cutdown. Someone could get hurt, injuries are a part of the NFL, which would make the decision an easier one and keep the three healthy ones (put the fourth on IR). Having said that, even if Chad was signed, he wouldn't automatically get the starting job. It's too late into this thing to do something as foolish as that.

In 2004 he was good, REAL good. He put up efficient 250 yard games, handed off the ball to Curtis Martin and did his job. He avoided interceptions and pretty much did everything.

    He's also a hard worker.

Well Finatic was talking about Pennington had already been traded and that it would be announced at 4:00pm today.

So all of this may have been wistful thinking.

Pretty much what Jay Fiedler did except minus 250 yard games and add interceptions.

Well Finatic quote Schefter, saying he would be cut, and he also quoted Tannenbaum, saying he had been traded.

I'd think the Bears would be a obvious landing pad, maybe the 9ers, but with Alex Smith, I tend to doubt it.

Who knows? All will be revealed tomorrow, I doubt they have Favre in a Jets cap and Pennington hanging around, 4:00 pm trade announced, 5:00 pm, press conference to plaster Favre in Jets cap on the evening sports shows.

    awe crap...

oh well...we'll know soon what is going down...I wouldn't doubt it since I am sure they don't want to give the Trifecta any ammo whatsoever....and a decent QB is really what we need to make a HUGE jump this year from last seasons ...uh...misstep

Only if the guys we have go into pre-season and they look like the three stooges...

Thing with a QB is that its not like a WR or really any other position where you can just stick a guy in there and have him run around.

If a QB doesnt really know the play book then its a recipe for some really bad 'soup'...

I hope that if it happens with CP it happens immediately and he can come in here and get some reps and by the Jag game he goes out and begins to get into a groove with the team.

Because the sooner the better with QBs.

Can you imagine the humiliation for us in the national press if that happens ? The Jets get Farvre and we get Pennington. It never stops :pity:

Why does that mean we pick up his salary ? If he is released, he is released from his contract. Wouldn't he have to negotiate a new one with us ? No way we pay him $ 6 million. That is not happening.

Now if we have to pick up his contract, I am sure he would have to renegotiate it for sure.

Not for $ 6 million. I am gonna wait for an answer to that one. Do we have to pick up that Jets contract, or does he become a complete FA without a contract and we do a new one with him ?

The 6 million are false. He becomes an unrestricted FA. The waiver system only applies to players who played less than 4 years in the league.

Pardon me? How do you figure? The Cowboys were 5-11 for three straight years before Parcells and since they have been in the playoffs every year. If thats not rebuilding, how do you define it?

Parcells not only rebuilt the Cowboys, he rebuilt the Jets, the Pats, and Giants. What makes you think hes NOT gonna rebuild here?

I know some of you dislike Parcells or make up fantasies about how he doesn't develop QBs, but the facts debunk all of that. Every bit of it. And as you guys are going to find out, Facts are stubborn.
