Why dont we just mole the defense around his talents?

Ah cool, you just said eff it and went full troll. Awesome.

Only person on the planet that watches football and doesn't understand the very simple concept of tailoring an offense/defense to the best players.

Are you always this uptight. I understand the concept just don't agree with the assertion you can mold anything around a player. In fact it is the exact reason that Gace will probably trade or cut Jordan. He lacks the talent to effective effect his X's and O's. I believe Gace will have an effective scheme to confuse the defense and cause the defense to do things they normally wouldn't. An example is a play that Carolina ran against Arizona. I was so impressed with its design I made it one of my own. It was a counter that left the OLB all alone to make the tackle against a receiver in motion, except Cam faked the hand-off turned and handed the ball to his FB who ran right behind a pulling Tackle who cleared out the path to a 19 yrd run. The OLb 's natural instinct was to follow the motioning receiver for just a second, even though he should have blown up the play. That 1 second delay was enough time for the tackle and full back to run right past him. I mean they were so close there jersey sleeves touched in the wind. The guy didnt have a chance. That is beautiful play design by Mike Shula.

Misdirection works mainly on the premise that what you're influencing the defense to overreact to is an actual threat. What could Miami consistently force defenses to react to this year? I could be wrong but I didn't see much.

Whats up Piston. Not sure really. I mean the team is void of talent in a lot of areas. I mean I like Tannehill who is ranked 8th in the league for passes completed with 363, passes attempted 586 and passing yrds with 4208. further look reveals he falls out of the top 10 to middle of the pack on every other category such as Passing Td's and Passer rating. Tannehill then shows back up as the 3rd most sacked with 45 and #1 in sacked yards lost with 420. Tannehill then falls down to the middle of the pack in every other category that is kept track of such as interception percentage, yards per attempt, yards per game, passes completed per game and pass comp %. Jarvis Landry is probably the most talented guy on the team and I feel in a lot of ways would do much better elsewhere. He is 3rd with 110 recpts and 2nd in all purpose yards from scrimmage 4th in punt returns and punt return yards. He is also tied for 2nd with 9 others for 1 TD on punt returns. but appears no where else on the list. We will have to see if Lamar Miller is back. Maybe I would consider Davante Parker as a possible star, but we didn't see much of him this year. Matt Darr is in the top 5 for punters across the board. For me I cant really remark about anyone else but maybe Wake, who I personally think will never be the same, not after that injury and he is getting up there in age. SUH is who he is a good tackle. They could replace every other player and I wouldn't really care.

Man, almost kind of depressing when I look at it that way. Hope Gace can pull it together. The guy definitely has his work cut out for him.

man i watched literally every play the guy played and did not have that conclusion, but, at this point your right..

dion jordan was not weak..hes just a body type that needs to be played at a certain weight for his to be explosive..he also imo was a talent that needed to be played at certain positions in order to be successful..anything dion could see in front of him he could sniff and chase down anywhere on the field.but his height and size kept the coordinator from understanding his true position.

Basically you have to beat an opponent to make the play happen.
Some examples: to shed a block to make a sack, not have a clean run to the QB due to scheme and make a sack; To make a catch over a DB, not simply make a catch in open space; For a RB to hit a small crease, not to go through a hole the size of the New Jersey turnpike cleared by his OL.
The better your opponent the more impressive it is.

Now if all your highlight reel is mostly making opposed plays I might doubt your athletic ability to make it in the NFL. For example Mike Hull's college tape shows an awful lot of strength and technique, but not a lot of examples of him using superior speed to beat RBs to the hole or around the corner, so I doubted that he had the athletic ability to be an effective NFL starter. I saw a lot of examples of him just catching people on the sidelines but in the NFL RBs are, as a group, faster than college RBs so I thought those plays he was making in college he wouldn't be able to get into position to make in the NFL.

But if your college tape doesn't show me that you have the technique/strength to beat opponents in college then I severely doubt you have the technique/strength to make it in the NFL regardless of your athletic ability.

I think that Dion has shown he can do some great things when he can see it happen in front of him. It's what happens when he has to think that gets me nervous. Put him in man coverage on Gronk and he can do it, but ask him to diagnose when to set the edge and when to chase the ball carrier and he'll end up out of position more often than not.

I think the fact he failed two drug tests in two consecutive years shows rather clearly that drugs are more important to him than playing football for the Dolphins.

As far as the lack of interest by the Dolphins. It was reported prior to his suspension last year that the Dolphins were trying to work out a trade with the Eagles. So if they were trying to trade him before he was suspended, I really don't see why Tannebaum would have any interest now in a player who isn't very good and who has been suspended twice for using drugs.

He just isn't the type of player this team needs to build around, IMO.

It's quotes like these that have me thinking there should be an additional book in the Holy Bible between Psalms and Proverbs named simply "Don".

Hypothetically, what if the failed drug tests were for weight gain type drugs because the previous staff was stupid and wanted him to gain weight instead of using him as is?

I'm not sure about "weight gain" drugs, but I'm almost positive that he took muscle building drugs, due to the fact that he put on 15 pounds of muscle in one offseason, and that's because he wasn't strong enough, iow, I don't think weight gain was the focus, it was strength.

Ok....doesn't really change the point of my hypothetical to jw3102, which is what if he was on the drugs to "improve" himself for the team....wouldn't that mean his dedication to the game is NOT in question?

That and works well against super-aggressive Ds... which is also unseen here.

I didn't see JW question his commitment to the game, maybe that's exactly what he meant, but he questioned his desire to stay in Miami from what I read, either way though, getting suspended 3 times in 2 years neither confirms or denies his dedication, you can make a strong case in either direction, eg; Look how far he will go to get strong enough, or he's taking the lazy way out because he doesn't want to do it naturally.

Even if he did it because he was dedicated, how do we know that he isn't just dedicated to $$$$.

Either way, he was a decent college player, and like most decent college players, he hasn't done well in the NFL, the fault lies in the FO for trading up and drafting a decent college player at 3, that should be done only to acquire spectacular college players.

IIRC it was the Eagles that came looking for Jordan and like any player, someone makes an offer you listen. Also, the Dolphins haven't tried to recoup Jordan's bonus which they are entitled to, so it would seem like they haven't dismissed the idea of bringing him back.

His first drug test failure was for PED's. His second failure was for the use of prohibited drugs. The third failed test was because his urine sample was diluted. So we have no way of knowing what he was trying to cover up.

Tannebaum was in his position last year when it was being reported the Dolphins were on the verge of trading Jordan to the Eagles. So I really don't see why Tannebaum or this new coaching staff would have any interest in a player who really has no dedication to the game.

He was a below average player before the failed drug tests and I just don't see him as the type of player who can help this team become a winner again.

He he obviously was vastly overrated coming out of college and it won't surprise me if he is completely out of football within the next year or two.
